Your Nosey Adversary
by Ernest Angley
May 2019
Nosey people are those who meddle in the affairs of others, and their intentions are usually not good. They like to feel superior, so they try to expose the faults and weaknesses of other people to make them feel better about themselves.
Nosey people are bad, but nosey adversaries are even worse because they seek to hinder you in every way they can. Satan is your nosiest adversary, and he is always up to no good. He will follow you around all the time unless you send him away, and he will dispute the truth every chance he gets. He wants to create conflict in your life and make God look bad so that he will look like the superior one. He tries to nose his way into everything you do for the Lord, and that is why you have so much trouble.
Satan Began Working in Eden
Satan stuck his nose into the affairs of the very first man and woman God made, and he began by asking Eve a question that was none of his business. Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden (Genesis 3:1)? Satan’s plan was to belittle God in Eve’s mind so he could persuade both Adam and Eve to sin and lose God’s approval.
You must never listen to the devil no matter how innocent his questions may seem; but Eve not only listened, she even answered him. And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die (Genesis 3:2,3).
Then the devil started to discredit God’s truth. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:4,5).
That was a big, nosey lie, but Eve listened to it. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat (Genesis 3:6). We don’t know how long the devil kept bothering Eve, but he finally wore her down. Then Adam listened to Eve, and that was the end.
If Adam and Eve had ignored that nosey devil and obeyed God, the devil would not have been able to talk to them much longer; and they would have lived forever in Eden, but that didn’t happen. They knew what God had said, yet they willfully disobeyed.
The Father of Lies
When people are full of deceit, the devil is their father; and they will seek to destroy anything that is of the truth. Jesus told such people, Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it (John 8:44). Jesus was saying that the devil is the originator of lies, and anyone who lies is of him.
Satan lied to Eve because he wanted to deceive her and separate her from Adam and God. He placed seeds of doubt and deceit in her mind to make her think God was holding out on them. Eve should not have listened to that lie, but she did; and it separated both her and Adam from God forever.
Where was the devil with his deceiving charm and beauty when Adam and Eve had to face God? Was he there to defend them and intercede for them? Satan’s victories depend on people listening to his lies, believing them and spreading them; but he will always leave them to face the consequences of those lies alone.
The devil may dress up pretty to get your attention just as he used the beautiful serpent to entice Eve, but you must never be attracted by him. Paul said, But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ (II Corinthians 11:3). You must never allow yourself to be deceived by the devil or listen to anything that contradicts what God has said because you will be in trouble.
The Bible says, A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish (Proverbs 19:9). And that punishment is hell fire. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death (Revelation 21:8).
Focus on Truth
The devil uses people who are his to spew out his lies and deceit, trying to convince others of anything except the truth; but never listen to their lies. People tried to do that to Jesus; but He said, Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God (John 8:46,47). Listen only to God’s Word, or you will be setting yourself up to be robbed of your soul.
If you are backslidden, the devil will tell you that you are justified so he can keep you in his clutches. If you are living holy, he will try to condemn you; or he will tell you that you will never be all God wants you to be. However, Christ is the only one who has the power to condemn, and there is no deceit in Him. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died [so you could live], yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us (Romans 8:34).
Satan’s only goal is to deceive you and separate you from God, so keep yourself separated from him and stay with God. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you (II Corinthians 6:17).
It should not matter to you what the devil or those who follow him think about you; you must keep your faith in truth. For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar (Romans 3:3,4).
The Bible tells us that the saints of old defeated the devil with the truth. And they [the saints of God] overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word [the truth] of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death (Revelation 12:11). Those saints testified to the greatness of the truth of the Word, and they loved God more than they loved their own lives.
Satan Tempted Jesus
Satan’s meddling did not stop with the first man and woman. The Bible tells us that he went to and fro upon the Earth, meddling in the affairs of men. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it (Job 1:7). That is why we always have to know what the devil is up to and be ready for him.
In the New Testament, we see the devil going after Jesus Himself with his same nosey ways and even questioning His divinity. And the devil said unto him [Jesus], If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread (Luke 4:3). But Jesus was not beguiled by Satan’s subtle, nosey question, and He answered him with the Word. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God (Luke 4:4).
The devil wasn’t finished with Jesus so he tried to get to Him again. And the devil, taking him [Jesus] up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve (Luke 4:5-8).
The devil doesn’t give up easily, so he tried tempting Jesus a third time. And he [Satan] brought him [Jesus] to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God (Luke 4:9-12). The devil will do whatever he can to get to you, but you must immediately rebuke him with the Word just as Jesus did. He can’t debate with you if you are not listening to him.
Live Only in Truth
When Jesus was on Earth, He was made of flesh just like we are; but He never listened to the devil’s lies, and you don’t have to either. Satan will come against every truth and promise of God because there is no truth in him, but Jesus was full of only truth; and He lived by that truth. You too must shut up the devil with the truth, the power of the blood and the good Holy Ghost.
That nosey devil will say that your sins are too great to be forgiven; but the truth of God says, For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more (Jeremiah 31:34). Satan will say that your life is too messed up to ever be made right, but Paul said he was the chief of sinners. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief (I Timothy 1:15). And God made Paul to be one of the greatest apostles.
The truth tells you what you need to know, so ignore your nosey adversary and listen to the truth. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32). Then close the door on the devil and never look back.
Some of you let the devil aggravate you and battle your mind; but the Bible says, Neither give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). Never let him burden you down or make you uneasy and afraid because the Lord has promised only good things to His children.
You need to submit yourself freely to the Lord. Stay steadfast in your work for Him, and resist the devil. Then he will run from you. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7). You are not resisting him when you talk to him.
The devil will try to make you think you have to prove things to him, but you never have to prove anything to him. God Almighty is the only one you have to answer to. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God (Romans 14:11).
Be Aware of the Devil’s Tactics
The devil tries to get your attention by asking questions like, “Do you really think you are living holy and that you will make it to Rapture ground? Don’t you think you have a right to hold a grudge when that person treated you so badly? Why did you say you received a miracle when you still have pain?” The only answer you have to give him is, “That is none of your business.” He may ask, “Does God really expect you to spend so much time praying, fasting and living in the Word? Can’t you answer the altar call at a later time?” Again, all you have to answer is, “That is none of your business, Satan.”
Ananias and Sapphira listened to the devil’s lies and questions, but it cost them their lives. A certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?…thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost (Acts 5:1-5).
About three hours later, Sapphira came to the disciples, not knowing what had happened to her husband. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord?…Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost (Acts 5:8-10). You can’t ever allow that nosey Satan to get involved in any of your affairs.
Peter Did Not Resist the Devil
Don’t think that Satan won’t try to meddle in your affairs if you are a good worker for God because he will try even harder. Those who are close to Jesus are Satan’s greatest targets, and he will go after them every chance he gets. That is why you can’t be ignorant of Satan’s devices. To whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also: for if I forgave anything, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices (II Corinthians 2:10,11).
Jesus warned Peter that the devil would go after him; but at that time, Peter was not guarding himself against the devil’s devices. And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat (Luke 22:31). But Peter didn’t believe that; and he said, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death (Luke 22:33). Jesus knew better; And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me (Luke 22:34).
Then just as Jesus had said, Peter did deny Jesus while He was enduring His all-night trial after being arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane; and that was when Jesus needed him the most.
After Peter denied Jesus for the third time, he finally remembered Jesus’ warning to him; but it was too late. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly (Luke 22:60-62). Thankfully, Peter repented before God. He realized that he could not defeat Satan in his own strength and that his human self was no match for the devil.
You Are Nothing without God
When Peter boasted that he would die for Jesus, I believe he really thought he would; but at that time, Peter did not have the Holy Ghost, and he was trusting in himself. After Peter received the Holy Ghost, we find him telling others how to resist Satan. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world (I Peter 5:6-9).
No one’s own strength, human strategy or years of attending church will keep that nosey Satan defeated. If you think you are exceptionally strong and can stand on your own, the Lord may allow certain things to happen to you until you realize that your hard shell of self serves no purpose in keeping Satan defeated. In this last hour, we all have to humble ourselves night and day before the Lord and know that He is God.
Judas let the nosey adversary into his affairs; and, like Ananias and Sapphira, it cost him his life. At the Last Supper, the Bible says, And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him [Jesus] (John 13:2).
You have to recognize the devil the moment he comes around, but Judas didn’t do that. Instead, he listened to the devil and betrayed Jesus for money. When he realized what he had done, he tried to return the money; but the chief priests and elders would not take it, so Judas committed suicide. And he [Judas] cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself (Matthew 27:5).
God Cast Satan Down
You must defeat such a nosey adversary and keep him defeated. Jesus defeated Satan on the Cross; and whenever you use the name of Jesus in all faith and love, you are keeping the devil defeated because Jesus has all power. He said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18).
The devil never has and never will have any power over God. As an angel in Heaven, he was determined to lift himself above the throne of God; but instead, he was cast down. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit (Isaiah 14:12-15).
Lucifer will never live in Heaven again. Right now, he is the prince of the air here on Earth, but only for a season; and he knows that. That is why he is such a nosey adversary and does whatever he can to keep people from receiving the Gospel light. He knows that once the light of God gets into a heart, he can’t work with that person like he had been able to. Jesus said, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12).
Satan will never stop working because he wants as many people as possible to be like him and never be able to be forgiven. Satan knows he is on his way to hell, and he wants to take as many people with him as he can.
God Is in Control
You must know that Satan cannot do one thing to a child of God that God does not allow. He had to get permission to try Job because he couldn’t get past the hedge God had built around him. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth [shuns] evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land (Job 1:8-10).
There is a hedge around God’s children today, too, and it is a hedge of divine blood. The devil can’t pass through that hedge unless God makes an opening and gives him permission to use it.
God had been preparing Job to face the devil years ahead of time; so when tragedy struck, he was ready. Job lost all of his animal herds, all of his material possessions, and all of his children. Then the devil afflicted him with boils that covered his whole body, but he never gave up on God. He said, Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him (Job 13:15).
But after the trial was over, God brought Job great victory; and He restored to him more than he had ever had before. And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before (Job 42:10).
Satan will come at you with all his fury to try to destroy you, but you have to keep your eyes on the One who gives life just as Job did. The thief [the devil] cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I [Jesus] am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
Jesus came to destroy every work of the devil. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8). Jesus did that; and the Bible tells us, Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (I John 4:4). Satan’s power can never exceed God’s power.
No Defeat in Jesus
The devil tried to stick his nose into Noah’s business and prevent the ark from being built; but thankfully, he and his family did not listen to the devil. It took them 120 years to build the ark, but they were faithful all the way. Think about all the degrading remarks that family members, so-called friends and neighbors must have spewed out during those years; but Noah and his family ignored the devil and all those who followed him.
Noah would preach to people when they came around, but not one soul was saved during that 120 years because they did not want God. Instead, they called Noah and his family all kinds of insulting names and told them how ignorant they were for building a three-story ark nowhere near the water, but Noah ignored that nosey adversary; and he continued to obey God. Then when the flood waters came, every human being on the face of the Earth drowned except for the eight souls on that ark. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man (Genesis 7:21).
Just as in Noah’s day, many people today think true children of God are fanatics because we believe the Lord is coming in our day. Even many so-called Christians don’t believe we will evangelize the world, but we believe it; and nothing is going to stop us.
God has given us the faith, the love and the power to take the Gospel to the ends of the Earth; and we will trample our nosey adversary underfoot because God said so. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19). We are greatly blessed, and we have nothing to fear or worry about.
Wear God’s Armor
God gave His Son to destroy the power of the devil. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he [Jesus] also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage (Hebrews 2:14,15).
Jesus walked out of the tomb so you and I could be free and have more of Heaven’s help available to us than we could ever use. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). You have to use that help, and then stand strong in the Lord. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might (Ephesians 6:10).
To help us stand, Jesus gave us the armor of God; and you have to wear all of it. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:13-17).
When you are wearing the whole armor, the devil can’t do a thing with you. Then you will be able to stand against him and whatever he tries. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:11).
Satan will not always come at you directly. He may use many tricks and disguises to work his way into your affairs with God, and that is why you must always be alert to him and be ready to make him afraid of you. When talking about the Bride of Christ, the Bible says, Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners (Song of Solomon 6:10)?
When you have the favor of the Almighty God, He will stand by you. Then you can be more than a conqueror. Paul said, Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:37-39). When you are more than a conqueror, you have power to defeat all the devils that come against you and still have power left over to defeat even more devils.
Jesus Brought Healing
The devil will try to stick his nose in the business of your physical body, but you have to defeat him the minute he comes around. Jesus asked, Wilt thou be made whole (John 5:6)? Faith defeats Satan, and he is the one who causes sickness. There was no sickness until man and woman sinned and gave over to the devil.
The Bible refers to diseases and afflictions as devil bondage several times. A woman came to Jesus who had been unable to stand straight and walked bent over for 18 years; and Jesus said, Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day (Luke 13:16)?
A father brought his afflicted and tormented son to Jesus for prayer, and Jesus rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him (Mark 9:25,26).
Jesus came to deliver people from bondages of any kind. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people (Matthew 4:23). Jesus could not heal all manner of people because some did not believe, but He did heal all manner of sicknesses and diseases.
Jesus brought a two-fold atonement—healing for the body and for the soul. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him (James 5:15).
God Is Calling You
Have you been letting your nosey adversary get into your business? If you have not been obeying God or doing all you can for Him, you must get rid of those spirits. You must repent now while you still have a chance to change your ways because the Lord is calling to you, and you are neglecting souls. How heartbreaking it will be to find out that you were responsible for souls being lost.
Say this prayer with me now: Oh, God, I am so sorry that I have sinned against you; but I have come home, and I am going to serve you for the rest of my life. I believe in the blood of Jesus, and I believe He shed that blood for me so it could wash away all of my sins! Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in, Jesus! I know there is just one flight out, and I don’t want to be left.
Jesus Is the Healer
Now that you have Jesus in your heart, you can be healed of any disease or affliction because of the power He brought. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings (Malachi 4:2).
The devil will try to tell you that your case is too hard and that healings are not for today, but never listen to him. God said, I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26). You may have AIDS, cancer, heart trouble or diabetes. You may have had a stroke or need a re-creation. God is doing all of that and more through this Jesus ministry, and He is ready to move for you.
Lord, the people are looking to you. I come to you for them in the name of Jesus. I curse all of their diseases right now. Lord, you are the remedy for all sin and sickness; you are our Sacrificial Lamb. Heal! Heal! in the all-powerful, blood name of Jesus.
Take this mighty anointing and watch yourself and your little ones get well. Then write or email and tell me about it. And remember that you must always live free from sin, or Heaven will never be yours. God bless you and keep you, and I hope to see you in the Rapture!
