Why People Have Leeched Minds
by Ernest Angley
August 1995
When Christ walked the earth, He recognized all spirits: He knew the Spirit of God, the spirit of man and the spirit of the devil whenever they appeared. Jesus gave discerning power to the Early Church to recognize not only angels, but all evil spirits. He gives this same power today. God wants us to know the works of the devil, where and how he operates, so we will not be taken in by his lies. In this hour, God is exposing the way mental spirits leech onto the mind, how they have worked undercover throughout the ages.
What is a leeched mind? Through the gift of discerning of spirits, I see mental spirits clustered in leeches on the human mind, draining it of the integrity and reasoning power of God. They can be clustered in one or two areas, or they can take over the whole mind. Like parasitic leeches of the jungle that live off the blood of their victims, leeches of the mind sap the life force of God’s reasoning power from the mind. These leeches, filled with mental spirits of the devil, seek to leech a part of the mind if they can’t have it all.
Why do people have leeched minds? How does it happen? How does it take place? Why do some people become unleeched and then releeched? How easy is it to become releeched? Leeches operate every part of the mind that gives over to them. They gain control a little at a time. A person can be saved, yet have leeches in the mind; but if those leeches drop into the soul, salvation is lost. Some people have been born again but have never been unleeched. Salvation would have given them that freedom from leeches had they taken advantage of it. They could have taken on the mind of Christ when they were born again, walked away from the altar of God with a brand-new mind as well as a brand-new soul. Since the power in the blood of Jesus can make the soul holy and healthy in the twinkling of an eye, know that the mind can be delivered also. The Bible tells us to let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5).
You may be one of those who have used the blood for their souls but haven’t let the light of the Gospel free their minds. Consequently, your mind is still in bondage just as the soul once was in the bondage of sin. When you are free, you don’t have leeches. Not bothered by every little problem, you rejoice to have that clear mind. When your mind and soul are unleeched, you think like Jesus; you think the Word, the Word.
You must consistently yield your mind to the Word of God day and night to keep your mind free from all leeches. If you don’t stay yielded to the Word, you will not be unleeched. Don’t yield to people, to their opinions, their thoughts, their words. Turn away from any thought or idea that is not in harmony with the Word of God. What goes into your ears goes into your mind. When you listen to people talking weakness, talking the language of leeches, you are affected. You take on unnecessary problems, ones the Lord doesn’t want you to be troubled with; you take on thoughts the devil uses to rob you of your peace and joy. Just like a person accepts a bullet from a gun, you can accept thoughts of leeches that the devil fires at you. If his thoughts, deadly as any bullet, shoot right into your mind, the destruction is done. But the Word of God destroys all the power of the enemy when it’s used as Christ showed us how to use it.
The Word Is All-Powerful
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). The Word has been given with all power. The Word tells us that the just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17). The Word is our faith. Jesus said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). We must be fed the Word, the right words. The Word of God edifies and blesses the obedient. How wonderful that we have the opportunity to yield to the Word of God! However, in order to yield to the Word, the mind must be prepared.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee (Psalm 119:11). How much of the Word have you hidden in your heart that you never let your mind enjoy or profit by? How much of the Word has been stolen from you? You must give the Holy Spirit freedom to bring the Word of God out of your heart and put it into your mind.
The grace of God in your soul, the Holy Spirit with you will feed into your mind whatever you need when you are open to Him. Remember that God is love (I John 4:8). Jesus said, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness (II Corinthians 12:9). The Bible says as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy (I Peter 1:15). Jesus tells us to be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48). You may not be able to quote those scriptures verbatim, but you can remember them. They have all the strength of God in them for your mind. Do you let other things occupy your thoughts? With the pure Word of God churning up and down in your mind you have the anointing of God. People who do not have much anointing do not keep much of God and the things of God.
The Word of God is the fertilizer that feeds the soil of the mind for the production of the fruits of the Spirit. With all the help God has provided for your freedom, it seems unforgivable to allow your mind to be leeched, and yet the Lord will forgive. Be careful where the seed is falling, careful to treasure the Word of God when it is going forth. God can only work with the free will of man, and He works through His Word. Some people don’t listen very well. How much do you remember from an anointed sermon? How much time do you spend with the Word of God? When you let the Word of God fall on stony ground, the Holy Spirit cannot work for you. How important is the Word to you? Is food more valuable than fasting? If you were dying, food would mean nothing to you. Only the Word of God would count then: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me (Psalm 23:1,4). Those are the words of the Lord to the dying. People call separation of the soul from the body death, but you who die in the Lord are not really dying; you are just moving out into a better place to live with the Lord for all eternity.
A Sower Went Forth
Jesus used parables to bring out living truth to people. The parable of the sower demonstrates the condition of the soul, and the Lord moved on me to use it for the mind as well. The Lord wants you to understand about your mind. Dwell on the parable of the sower found in the thirteenth chapter of Matthew. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear (Matthew 13:3-9). The Lord wants you to hear what He is saying, to recognize the kind of mind the Word can or cannot deal with.
Let’s look again at verses 3 and 4: Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up (Matthew 13:3,4). This is a good picture of you who let your minds wander away from the Word of God, allowing the devil to steal the Word from you. Your mind will be first on one thing and then another if you allow it to be, taking you in circles. You can bring your mind under submission to the Holy Spirit, focus it on something good or something bad; you have that privilege. You can be in control of your mind if you have God in your soul.
Think on These Things
For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). If you are thinking God and His ways, you will be strong in the might of His power. If you are thinking depression, you will be depressed. If you think doubt, you will be of a doubting spirit and will fail to receive from the Lord. You don’t have to be in that condition.
The Bible tells us what to think upon: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report: if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). If you want Bible results, think the Bible way.
The devil may have leeched you for years with fear, frustration, despair, but the Word of God makes clear that you can be free of those things. The cure for fear is love. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love (I John 4:18). Don’t carry fear around with you, asking people to pray that you get rid of it. The love of God in your heart can destroy all the fear in your mind when you let that love flow. Fear, things not of God, things that do not bless come to your mind, but you needn’t let them take root. If you do, they become a part of you, and you are in trouble. Use the Word of God that kills the power of the wrong seed. Take on the Word of God, let its roots run deep, and the leeches can’t stay.
The Spirit of Truth cannot work with anything less than truth: He works with the truth concerning you, with the truth of your condition, of your mind, of your thinking. Any reasoning that isn’t right He can destroy if you will yield to the truth about yourself. But when you cover up, when you think depressing thoughts filled with doubt, when you blame others for your problems, you have no help from the Holy Spirit, no help from God.
The devil seeks to leech the mind, the part of you that does the thinking, that intends, wishes, wills, desires, reasons, for he knows that a good mind in the Lord is priceless. A right-working mind finds nothing to fear, nothing to worry about.
Stony Places in the Mind
The sower let fall some of the seed on stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away (Matthew 13:5,6). The seed sown on stony ground was scorched, withering away as soon as the sun grew hot. When it comes to receiving the Word, the mind can be stony, lacking the proper nourishment. To nourish the Word, the mind must be kept fertile, be fed the right kind of thoughts.
Some minds have stony places in them where there is no production of the Word; others are stony altogether. Leeches gather in the unprotected stony places of the mind. Because the Word of God does not move in that area, the leeches are in control, their ideas accepted. This is the reason people are directed wrong, the reason they will not walk in total obedience with the Lord; they fail God and let themselves be led off to the tree of forbidden fruit. Every time the devil can prepare a little more stony hardness in the mind, create a little more drawing back from following Jesus all the way, he will. He takes the richness of the soil out of the mind, and with it the power of the Word.
Think how God feels when He looks at a born-again soul and sees stony places—not in the heart, but in the mind. That person has blind spots that block out good spiritual vision, blind spots when he looks to the Lord. He is not close to the Lord, doesn’t have that meek, gentle spirit. If you are full of thoughts that reject the anointing of God, you find that strife, contention, rebellion flare up. At times in the leech-free spaces where the Word lodges in your mind, you relax and look as though you will be all right. You appear to have found your spiritual sanity. Then suddenly a problem is directed toward the stony ground of your mind where leeches are attached, and they charge into action. You flare up again. When a problem hits that stony place, nothing is there to help you overcome it, to give you strength and gain the victory. In this way the devil leads people astray from God in their minds. He gets in because the stony places don’t have enough soil for the Word to take root in and to provide protection. If the devil can form enough stony ground in the mind then he can draw people into all kinds of lust, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the world, the lust of the eyes or what have you.
Do you have leeches, stony places, blind spots? Check yourself. If you don’t see clearly, if you don’t act spiritually sane all the time, you have leeches. If you blow up, you have stony places in your mind. When your responses come from the stony places, you have nothing to keep you under control, and the leeches take advantage. You give over to leeches and they go into operation. They have you fussing, fighting, using idle talk, doing and saying things you have no business doing and saying.
Stony spots, blind spots cause people to gossip. No matter how much some people are warned against gossiping, how much they hear about putting the bridle of love on the tongue, they continue to gossip. The stony spots, the blind spots block out the truth. The Word, the living Word can plow up all the stony places and provide fertile soil for you to cultivate.
Look into the Mirror of God’s Word
You can see your face in your mirror at home, but you can’t see your mind and soul in it. You must see yourself through God’s mirror. No need to ask friends if you are all right; they may hesitate to tell you the truth for fear of starting a war. But if you ask your enemies they could go beyond the truth and sink you so far down you might never surface. The only one to ask is the Lord.
People come to me saying, “Preacher, I’m sincere. I really want to know if you see anything wrong in me.” I have told some people what I saw in them and they became so angry they thought I just couldn’t be right. I simply held God’s mirror up to them, and they didn’t believe they could look that ugly.
To be rid of the leeches you must yield to the Lord. As long as you give over to the flesh, talk unkindly, act selfishly, throw fits of anger you have stony ground.
The Word helps you to control your temper and to use it on the devil. The Lord knew you would have a temper; that is the reason He decided one of the fruits of the Spirit to be grown in you would be self-control. The Lord has given us the fruits of the Spirit, but if we don’t use them, they will do us no good.
What are the fruits of the Spirit? Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance (Galatians 5:22,23). The fruits of the Spirit—dine on them all. These fruits are to be treasured and used. Eat the whole Word of God; take it into the system of your heart, mind and soul.
Disobediences Are Like Weeds in Eden
The Lord does not excuse failure, but He will forgive failures if you repent with a sincere heart determined to never fail again. There is a difference between being forgiven and being excused. The Lord can’t excuse sin—there is no excuse for it—but the grace in the blood of Jesus will forgive sin if you sincerely repent. Just being sorry you were caught is not real repentance.
Not all disobediences are sin, but all disobediences hinder in one way or another. Disobediences are like weeds in Eden. Little disobediences in the mind attract more leeches. Every time you disobey God, it brings more leeches. Every time you fail God in anything, it puts a little stony spot in your mind, a little blind area. Deceit is getting in, the devil is working. He may not use that failure against you for a while. He will let you have some good feelings about your disobedience, some good feelings in other areas, some good feelings to make you think you are all right. He will let you come down to the altar as a saint of God, pray and not feel any condemnation. He doesn’t have you where he wants you yet, and he is careful. You think you are growing in the Lord. You are not. The devil, waiting like a hungry lion for the prey, pounces when the time is right.
How many leeches are you going to carry? How much of your mind will you give over to stony ground? The Lord doesn’t want you to give any part of it over to stony ground, to blind spots. The devil is the one who makes you think there is no danger in disobedience. So cleverly he shows you ways to justify yourself when you are in the wrong. The stony places in your mind hold down only a thin dusting of the Gospel soil, places unprepared for battle. The worst in you comes out in these stony places. The devil loves it. Afterward you may be sorry you behaved badly, but sorry isn’t enough. To take on and keep the mind of Christ, you must be rid of the blind spots, the stony ground. Leave no room for weeds to grow. The opinions of the world are weeds and thorns. The Word of God does not grow weeds.
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them (Matthew 13:7). When you keep the opinions of the world, you have reserved a place in your mind for thorns and thistles. Some people peddle hurtful comments to all who will listen. It becomes a way of life for them. Take your dirty laundry to the cleaners; in other words, get rid of hurtful words and actions and speak and do that which edifies and blesses. People with blind spots pass on the bad and not the good.
When the mind is not right, neither is the conversation; the result is spiritual insanity. It takes much honest soul-searching and dedication to be like Jesus. Rather than being bound with worry, with fear of what others may say about you, watch your own words, your own actions.
Violence in the Word of God
The Bible is filled with violence, and you must have a sound mind in the Lord to understand why God moves as He does, to be able to separate to the right and to the left. We read in the Old Testament that the Lord sent an angel who killed 185,000 soldiers of the army of the Assyrians in one night. Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses (Isaiah 37:36).
The Lord drowned all of Pharaoh’s army in the Red Sea. And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea…And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them (Exodus 14:27,28).
God killed all but eight souls in the days of Noah. And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark (Genesis 7:23). God drowned every last one of them: babies, teenagers, mothers, fathers, grandparents. Are you going to say that God is wrong because of the violence?
God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground (Genesis 19:24,25). Is that violence? The Lord slayed thousands and thousands of the Israelites in the wilderness. What resides in people’s hearts is the problem; violence is just a symptom of the wrong heart.
Some people don’t understand why the Old Testament is filled with so much killing. The Lord is having to destroy evil, destroy what the devil has done to the human race. The ungodly have made God violent because of their wicked ways. They have forced God into war much like America was forced into World War II. Of course we don’t like violence, but minds must be adjusted to go against the devil.
The book of Revelation is filled with violence. It tells that Jesus, who came as the Lamb of God offering salvation, will come again as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah to fight the battle of Armageddon. The world has never seen a lion like this one. It’s going to be war, war, war.
If violence on television affects you, if you think you might kill someone because you saw violence on television, don’t watch. A right-minded person would never watch something that would cause him to go into action, to be vicious and destroy others. The people you see killed on television dramas get up when the show’s over and walk away; they play their part and get their pay. It’s not real. Real violence will come in the Tribulation Period and much of it from the hand of God. God believes in violence when it is against sin.
There was violence in the Early Church days, but those Christians were humble like the Lamb Jesus. Jesus is our truth who came down from Heaven. He showed man and woman how to act, how to have sound minds, how to have spiritual sanity and to walk in the way of God doing the will of the Lord. We can’t be violent in this world of violence. The Lord will take care of that part. All the works of God are right. If He decides to kill one or one million, it’s right. God is just.
Violence is all around you. Will you let it make you doubt God? Will you teach your children that God is just, plant the seed of the Lord in their hearts and minds? The Word will go with them wherever they go. Even though they may not be living for God, the Word sown in their minds thousands of times will be something they will never be able to forget. Sow that good seed.
Don’t Rob Yourself
Many children have been given nothing of the Word of God to fight with. Since the time they were born, so many have known nothing but a fuss and a cuss in their families. What do they have? They haven’t been taught to respect authority or God. They don’t respect their parents. In order to train your children in the Word, you yourself must have a sure foundation in the Word so you can give them the same precious gift. If you are confused about your place in the Lord, you won’t do a good job teaching the Word to your children. Your mind must think with the Word of God. It’s time to be unleeched.
Those stony places, those thorns and thistles in your life will cause you to miss out on God’s plan for you. Face yourself. If you cause trouble in the home or outside of it, you have leeches. If you have thorns, nettles leeched into that mind of yours, you will bring pain to others. Clear the weeds out; be rid of the stony places and blind spots. This is your hour of victory.
Take redemption not only for your soul, but also for your mind. Don’t look to the failures of the past. If you are going to carry Jesus in your heart, why have weeds in your mind? Why have thorns and thistles? Why have stony places lacking fertile soil for the Word to take root in? You rob yourself of much of the greatness of God in your life when you allow the stony places in your mind. You would function so much better, not making the mistakes in your transactions and decisions that you may have made in the past. You would know when to move and when not to move, what to do and what not to do.
The devil will show you the past and tell you that you can’t do better. Your answer? I can’t, but Jesus can! The Word can; give over to the Word. Be sweet, holy like Jesus. Before you speak, think in your mind what Jesus would say. What would Jesus do? How would He meet this situation? That is the way you are to be. You are His lamb; He is your sacrificial Lamb. He has made it possible for you to be redeemed, has made you like Him. In His likeness through His redemption, He has done it.
With your mind connected to the mind of Jesus, your path is clear. It isn’t enough to have your soul connected to Him, you need to have your mind connected to Him, too.
No matter how much love you have in your soul, the Holy Spirit can’t shed it abroad in your mind unless you let Him. No matter how much truth in your soul, if you don’t allow the Holy Spirit to feed it to your mind, the truth won’t be in your mind. When the truth doesn’t take root, you stay leeched. By not keeping the Word of God flowing in your mind, you allow leeches to hang on and dig in. The Lord wants you to know that you’re being robbed.
Some of you are having mind battles. Why aren’t you able to get away from them? Why will you let the devil battle you? He can even cause you to accuse God. If you don’t have any stony spots, if you have plenty of good soil to establish the seed of the Word in your mind, you shouldn’t be defeated. Mind battles will come, but you don’t have to live with them. Use the Word for deliverance from the bondage of fear—the prison house—in which the devil takes all your peace and joy.
Yield to the Holy Spirit and decide you are not going to look back anymore. Don’t, I say again, let the devil defeat you with the past. Take on the fertile soil to nourish the Word of God in your mind as well as in your soul. Your mind will be like the mind of Jesus that cried, Father, you always hear me!
Victory Is in Obedience
The mind of Jesus was always obedient, even to the death of the cross; it was a mind under submission to the Father. When you take on His mind, the mental battles will cease and you will be victorious in your mind. Learn to let the Holy Spirit flow the Word of God into your mind knowing that nothing of the devil can stand before the Word. The Word was made flesh, and victoriously walked the country paths, walked the shores of Galilee and the streets of Jerusalem, taught in the synagogues. The Word was victorious, for the Word has all power.
The Word is your heritage; it belongs to you. Defeat the devil with what is written. Let him know you will not worry yourself to death; peace has been given to you and you’re going to use it. Use the Word Peace be still! when the storms begin to rage. Decide to be happy in Jesus; look to Him for your security and decisions and you will run the race the way the Lord intended. Be adjusted to the Word in your mind as well as in your soul at all times, in harmony with the living Word.
A Message from the Holy Spirit
Yea, saith the Spirit of the Lord: I am dealing with you. I am seeking to open your eyes because on tomorrow your eyes must be open to yourself at all times. You must be able to see what the enemy’s doing, and you must be able to hear everything that I’m saying to you. You must be able to behold my goodness and my mercy every waking hour. You must be able to use my love and to live in my grace. You must know that my right hand is lifted high for you, my child, and no power can defeat you. You must hear me say again and again, “Let not your heart be troubled; don’t let it be afraid.” You must not live in fear and torment. You must not let the enemy torment you. I have need of you. I have need of you. You must not carry torment in your mind. You must carry my peace, and with it will be my power, and with it will be my greatness. You will be able to resist the devil, and you will have power with your Lord. You will be a shining light in this dark, dark hour. I will beam my love of grace and my holy presence through you that people will see, and many will desire to have the peace and the joy that you have. Looking unto me, the author and the finisher of your faith, and I will lead you forth, and I will feed you on milk and honey, and you will turn many to righteousness, saith the Lord.
If you want the mind of Christ, if you want to be the lamb walking the earth in the same Spirit your sacrificial Lamb walked in, if you want to be all He wants you to be and glorify Him, come to the Lord now. Present yourself before the Lord. Know that He cares, that He is your grace, your power. Come and humble yourself in His presence. Come, come to be what He wants you to be. Come in the humility of Him and let the Word do its perfect work in your mind so you can be delivered from all leeches. As the Word takes over, the presence of God will cover you up, and the anointing of God will be yours. The enemy cannot hold on to you with his leeches when the anointing is there, but the anointing has to be in your mind, saith the Lord, not just in your soul.
God is eager to bring you into His path, to give you His strength. Cry to the Lord and get the help you need today. He is listening. He wants to hear your humble cry just as He heard the humble cry of His only begotten Son when He was here on earth. He loves you; settle it in your mind: He loves you. Turn your mind over to Him. Take on the Word from the mouth of the living God and let Him give you insight to see clearly why the devil is able to leech minds in this last and final hour.
