Three Ways to Die
by Ernest Angley
September 2013
This profound message will reveal to you that there are three ways to die; and after reading it, you will have to decide which way you will die. To begin, we will go back to Golgotha. Most people have heard of the cross Christ died on, but they may never have thought much about the other two crosses that were there that day. The Lord had planned for there to be three crosses, and great lessons can be learned from each one. And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him [Jesus], and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left (Luke 23:33).
On the day Christ was crucified, three men were dying on cruel crosses—each one had a different background and had made a different journey on Earth. Only one of them was saved and holy, and that was Jesus. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth (I Peter 2:22).
But the people mocked Jesus. And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him [Jesus], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS (Luke 23:35-38). Anyone who was there that day and could read would have been able to understand one of those three languages.
No Salvation without Repentance
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us (Luke 23:39). The man to the left of Jesus was asking Him to save him from death, but he wasn’t asking for his soul to be saved. He was saying, “Save me so I can enjoy the world of sin and every lust of the flesh a while longer.” Can you see that man’s arrogance? Can you see the world in him? He was sneering and mocking, and he was full of devils; he was without feeling just like those the Bible speaks of. Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness (Ephesians 4:19). I want you to see the whole world mocking God and Jesus Christ that night.
The man on the cross to the right of Jesus rebuked him [the man on the left], saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss (Luke 23:40). You have to see yourself as a sinner, and the man on the right of Jesus was telling the man on the left that he was wrong. He said, “Do not rebuke Him; He has committed no sin. We are here because we are sinners; and whether you admit it or not, it is just for us to be crucified.” A sinner was preaching to a sinner, but it didn’t do any good.
The man on the left did not want to see his sins, and he was not sorry for the things he had done; but no one can be forgiven of his sins unless he has godly sorrow—that means you have to be as sorry for committing your sins as God is that you committed them. Both the man on the right and the man on the left were sinners, but the man on the right cross was sorry for his sins. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise (Luke 23:42,43). He almost missed Heaven; but on his last day, he made his final choice. Thank God, he made it.
And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost (Luke 23:44-46). Jesus died the right way. He came as very God, and He finished the journey as very man. Jesus is our example all the way, and how wonderful it is to have a Savior who conquered death. It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us (Romans 8:34).
John tells us that before Jesus died, He cried, It is finished (John 19:30). That meant the plan of redemption was finished. Then the veil in the temple was rent from top to bottom, not from bottom to top as man would have done; and that signified that God had come down. And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom (Mark 15:37,38).
The Spirit of the Right Cross
The man hanging to the right of Jesus had some light. I like to think of him as having a godly mother who taught him the Word of God and the way of holiness just as my mother taught me. I like to think that she told him about how God hates sin, about how Jesus came all the way from Heaven and died for our sins and that there is no other way to be saved but through Him. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12). I imagine him never being able to forget his mother’s words; and I can just see her with tears in her eyes saying, “Honey, you have to get right with God; He and His Son love you so much.” For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
The son may have been at his mother’s side when she was dying and heard her say, “Darling, do get right with the Lord or I will never see you again. I am going to Heaven now, and I want you to meet Jesus and me there one day.” Little did she realize that her son would meet Jesus here on Earth. There he was on Crucifixion Day hanging right next to Jesus—so close but so lost. Would the Lord be able to pluck him as a brand from the fire? Would he choose the right way to die? Salvation was so close that he could reach out and touch it; and thankfully, that man recognized Jesus.
You have to learn Jesus before you can find Him. You have to learn of His love, His grace and His power. You have to learn that He died for you, but would that man believe that Jesus was dying for him? His mother had said that He would; and in his heart, the son knew that this was the man called Jesus his mother had told him about. He knew there was a hell to shun, and he knew he could have forgiveness because he had been taught about the loving Christ; but would he be rescued?
That man still had a heart that could be touched, and he still had respect for Jehovah God and for His plan. He had respect for divine love, peace, joy and kindness and for someone who could help others and show them love. He had not lived right or served God, but he had no accusations or hatred to pour on Jesus. He knew he was about to plunge into hell along with the man on the left cross, but he also knew that the man Jesus on the Middle Cross was not going to hell. He knew Jesus was about to step into a glorious Kingdom where He would live forever.
The thief on the right cross represents the lost in the world today who have not accepted Jesus into their hearts. They are full of sin, but there is hope for them if they will accept Jesus. That man knew the devil’s way led to eternal death, and he was under condemnation. In the short time that he had been hanging beside Jesus, he was drawn close to His love; but what if that love had not been there? Satan had tried to destroy that love, and I am sure he had called forth every one of his devils that day; but it was all to no avail—he couldn’t drown out Jesus’ voice of love and grace.
Love, eternal life and eternal joy were hanging on the Middle Cross, a joy those in the world had never felt unless they had received Jesus. The Gospel of hope, peace, Heaven and the eternal light of God was hanging on the Middle Cross. Jesus had brought that light to light up the whole world.
If you could have looked at the scene on Golgotha that day, you would have thought it was too late for the man on the left cross and the man on the right cross and that the only safe place was the Middle Cross; but that was not so. As long as a person will look to Jesus before it is too late, he can be saved.
The Spirit of the Left Cross
The man on the left cross had lived a wicked, ungodly life. He had time for business, time for pleasure, time for sin; but he had made no time for God. He did not want to talk to Jesus about his sins because he was not sorry for the things he had done; he was only sorry that he had been caught, and he wanted to live for the wrong reason. He loved his devilish, sinful life, and he loved the seventeen works of the flesh. He thought they were life to him, but they were really death.
That man did not want down from the cross to serve God; he did not want any part of God. He was in darkness and did not want the light. He was full of hate, envy, strife, lust and ungodliness. He had degraded himself and may have almost destroyed his body with wickedness.
That man had given himself completely over to the devil; so when he looked at Jesus, he only felt hate. He probably thought, “That is the most foolish man I have ever seen. They say He committed no sin, but He is dying just like we are. He made claims of having great power, so why doesn’t He use it now? It’s been said that He raised the dead, so why can’t He save us?”
That man was not going to repent, and that is the worst way to die. He is in hell today and has been there for about 2000 years. I am sure he often thinks of the day when Christ was hanging beside him and dying for him, the time when he could have been saved. He had the chance just as some of you have today, but he did not make the most of it and neither have some of you. How long do you think you can continue in your sin, mock God and get by with it? How long do you think you can spit in the eyes of the One who died for you?
The voice of the left cross was a cruel voice, and it was all around on that day. It was in the soldiers and in both the Jewish and the Gentile people. They hated the Middle Cross and instead had embraced either the cross to the left or the cross to the right.
The man on the left cross is the way of many in the world today. He represents all who are without God and could be rescued if they wanted to be, but they have too much of the spirit of the devil and the love of the world in them and none of the love of God. Many people go to church, but they have just a form of godliness and have denied the power of God. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away (II Timothy 3:2-5). When you deny the power of God, you also deny that which brings you to God; but these are the signs of the times that Jesus spoke of: When ye shall see all these things, know that it [my coming] is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled (Matthew 24:33,34).
The World’s Evil Voice
Today, the voice of the left cross is going forth day and night all over the world spewing out hate for God, for His work, for His people and for the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. That voice has no love in it, only hate. That voice has no trust in God, no lasting joy and no lasting peace in it. It is the voice of the world church; and there is not an uglier voice than that one. That church is full of ungodly living just like was in the days of Noah and Sodom and Gomorrah. People’s every thought was and still is evil continually; and so many men, women, boys and girls are destroying their lives with sin, alcohol, drugs and sex.
We live in such a degraded hour. People are so full of hate for God that they have opened up their lives completely to the devil, and many devils inhabit them. God never intended for the bodies of His man called Adam and His precious woman called Eve to be habitations of devils; Jesus came so that our bodies could be the temples of the Holy Ghost.
Many preachers today who claim to know the Gospel say that any religion will do; but Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber (John 10:1). There will be no robbers in Heaven.
The Rich Man Died on the Left Cross
The man on the left cross died without God, and in hell he lifted up his eyes just like the rich man did whom Jesus told about. There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame (Luke 16:19-24).
Lazarus sitting at the rich man’s gate represented Jesus at the gate. The rich man had a chance to get right, but he didn’t; and he would not even give Lazarus the crumbs that fell from his table. Lazarus was so tortured on Earth; but when he died, angels carried him to Heaven because he was on the right side of Jesus, the right and glorious way to die.
The rich man was on the left side of Jesus; and because he did not move, he found himself in hell, screaming and begging for Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool his tongue for he said, “I am tormented in this flame.” That is what the Bible says; yet there are preachers today who deny that there is a flame in hell. That is damnation to the human race, and they are helping to send so many souls to hell. It is sad that people who say they are on their way to Heaven will listen to such false doctrine.
Jesus Did Not Fail
The first Adam failed; but Jesus, the Second Adam, did not fail. The devil tried to get Him to sell out and to bow down to him by offering Him all the kingdoms of the world, but he could not deceive Jesus. He stood up against the devil in every way. The devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve (Matthew 4:8-10).
Jesus is the Son of God, but He came and took on human flesh so He could become our elder brother. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:8). Jesus became the sacrificial offering that God could accept, and He sacrificed so we all could be saved. He became very man, but He still had divine blood in His veins; and we have been made partakers of that divine blood.
Jesus is to be our example. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps (I Peter 2:21). Jesus is our Savior, our Redeemer; and we are on the right side when we are on the right side of Him. We who are believers wear His shoes. We talk His talk, walk His walk, and we are so much like Jesus that angels minister to us. Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14)?
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us (Ephesians 2:13,14). Jesus tore down the wall of partition that had separated man and his God. There is no longer a wall between us; so we can walk with Him, talk with Him and have fellowship with Him. We can have light, peace and joy; and we do not have to worry about where we will spend eternity because we know we will spend it in the great, heavenly Eden.
Jesus brought nothing but divinity from Heaven. He brought the nine fruits of the Spirit, and He used them; and then He trained man and woman to use all the divinity He brought. If you use that divinity all the time, you will not have to worry about missing the one flight out or dying without God and missing Heaven. You will have full assurance all the time just like Paul did.
At one time, Paul said he was the chief of sinners. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief (I Timothy 1:15). But the salvation of Jesus Christ completely changed Paul; and when it came time for him to die, he said, I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing (II Timothy 4:6-8). Many of us can say the same thing today. We have kept the faith and are finishing our course, and there is a crown of life waiting for us and for all who live godly in Christ Jesus.
No Sin in Heaven
You have learned about the three ways to die, so which way will it be for you? You can only die one of those ways, and it had better be the death of the Middle Cross because that is the only way into Heaven. Without holiness, no man will ever see the face of God. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
A holy life is a sinless life, but how many people really believe that and how many preachers teach that? Jesus brought divinity so that we could all live free from sin; so if there is any sin stain on your garment, you will not go through the gate of Glory. It is possible to live a sinless life. Jesus said, All things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23).
When you willfully commit even a little sin, you go into the darkness of night and leave the light. Light and darkness can have no fellowship with each other; so when one comes, the other has to go. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin (I John 1:5-7).
Jesus is coming after a Bride who is spotless and without blemish. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27). A blemish can be so tiny that it may take a magnifying glass to see it, but Jesus is coming after a Bride without even one blemish. Thou [the Bride] art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee (Song of Solomon 4:7).
The Bride finds her light for every step and her prophecies of this end-time hour on the Middle Cross. She looks at that Cross and sees a Babe born in Bethlehem with divine blood in His veins. She sees Him as He opens the eyes of the blind, unstops deaf ears and makes crippled people to walk. She sees Him raise the dead, walk the waters and show us that He has power over everything.
You Must Repent
If you are not yet saved, you must act like Zacchaeus. Behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way (Luke 19:2-4). Zacchaeus was not very tall; and when Jesus was coming his way, he wanted to see Him, so he climbed a tree. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house (Luke 19:5).
Jesus shocked Zacchaeus when He called his name; and Zacchaeus climbed down in a hurry, repenting from the time he left the limb he was sitting on. [He] said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold (Luke 19:8). That was an example of really knowing how to get saved. The Lord did not have to preach to him. Zacchaeus had already received the Gospel, and Jesus was within his reach.
Jesus is within reach of some of you today, but how long is He going to be there? How long will it be until sin will destroy you completely? How long do you have until you will say no for the final time, and the Spirit of God will lift from you? The Bible tells us that those who sat in darkness saw Heaven’s light, but they did not all come to it. The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up (Matthew 4:16).
The End of God’s Grace
In the book of Matthew, the Gospel light shines; and the sin of blaspheming against the Holy Ghost is uncovered. Jesus said, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come (Matthew 12:31,32). People can reject the Holy Spirit just so many times; and when they grieve Him for the last time, the Lord will rise up to say, “That is enough, Holy Spirit; do not go after those people another time because I have rejected them for all eternity. They have not wanted me, and I don’t want them.” Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh (Proverbs 1:24,26).
God gave me a vision years ago that I have never forgotten. I was going through crowds of people; and although I did not seem to have a microphone, it was as if I was preaching to the lost all over the world. I was holding up the Word of God and crying, “Come to Jesus! Come to Jesus!” Then suddenly, as I started to say, “Come” again, the words died in my throat; and the Lord took over. He told the people, “You didn’t want me; and now, I don’t want you. My Son died for you, but you did not accept His sacrifice; so I will never hear your voice again. I will never hear you pray. I told you I would mock your fears and laugh at your calamity; and now, I will do it.”
My God! I hugged my Bible and cried scalding tears. People were everywhere, but I could not reach one of them. I had always been able to pray for people and convince them to come to God. I would go on long fasts to bring in the lost and pay any price to win them, but no more. It was over for them.
At another time, God took me to the edge of hell; and it was so real. I got as close as I could and looked down, and I could see the smoke of the people’s torment coming up. If you ever hear the cries coming from hell, it will haunt you for the rest of your days. I reached for my Bible, but I discovered I did not have it; and I could not reach any of those people. I had always found help for people in the Word of God; but no matter how much they screamed and cried, I had no help for them. It was too late, and it was awful.
One thing I dread about this life ending is that I will never be able to win another soul for God. I have told God so many times, “Lord, don’t let me live when I cannot win souls.” Life would not be worth anything to me without souls. I would never think of retiring because I have to have souls. Many preachers want a lot of money, but I only want it so I can give it to the work of God for souls. My cry is, “Give me souls, Lord; give me souls!”
We Must Win Souls
I never ask the Lord to make me rich. I only want to be rich in His gifts and in His power so I can tear down the strongholds of the devil and set the captives free, so I can have the same anointings that Jesus had when He began His ministry. He said, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18).
There are so many lost people who are brokenhearted or in the jaws of death right now, and so-called Christians are not burdened for those souls. They are not crying out to God in prayers and fastings and claiming the promises of God to help bring them in. God cannot make us desire souls; but Jesus said, Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). He also said, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:15-18).
We do not have long to evangelize the world, so we have to hold up that Middle Cross and be just like Jesus. That is the cross we all must carry; but if you do not accept that Cross in all of its power, holiness and righteousness, you will never make the one flight out or go to Heaven.
We warn people again and again; but every time they say no to God, they drift further away from Him. They think the Lord will be there any time they get ready for Him, but He said no one could come unto the Father unless he was drawn by the Spirit. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him (John 6:44).
You cannot just decide that you are going to get right with God and head for the altar; you have to be drawn there by the Holy Spirit. Then to be able to stay with the Lord, you have to keep yielding to that drawing. You have to yield to the Spirit drawing you to the prayer closet, but how many nights have you spent with the Lord while others slept? It is time to cry out for the lost day and night and to let them know about the Middle Cross. It is time to let those who are on the left side of the Gospel know that they are so far away, but yet they are so close if they would only let the Lord reveal it to them.
You Must Have the Holy Ghost
We need to tell people that being on the right side of the Cross is not good enough. Jesus said, Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish (Luke 13:3). Some who are saved have made no effort to receive the Holy Ghost; and I doubt their salvation because when people are really born again of the Spirit of God, they will want the baptism of power from On High.
John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus’ first coming, preached repentance. Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand…but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire (Matthew 3:2,11). If you are really saved, then surely you have had at least a glimpse of the burning bush, the fire of God. Surely you have received the revelation of the pillar of fire that brought the Israelites out of bondage; yet it is almost time for the one flight out, and you do not have your passport. You will not make it without the Holy Ghost baptism.
So many Pentecostal churches have gone away from the truth. They are dead when they used to be alive. They have butchered the message of the Holy Ghost by teaching people, “Listen to what I say and talk like me.” They want people to mimic the Holy Ghost, but the Lord told me that such things grieve the Spirit. It is mockery for people to try to talk in tongues at will; that does not glorify the Lord. The Bible says, The God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified (Daniel 5:23).
The Price of Unholiness
Are you glorifying God with your life? If you have the spirits of disobedience and arrogance, you are not. If you gossip and carry grudges and hate, you are not. All of those things are the devil’s sins, and they will be cast into the lake of fire. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone (Revelation 21:8).
Are you always truthful, even when you get in a close place; or do you lie? Which side of Jesus are you on today? You are on the left cross if you are trampling the holy, divine blood underfoot as if it was something filthy, nasty and dirty. Soon, you and others who are doing the same thing will lift up your eyes in hell when your hearts stop beating because the God in whose hand thy breath is hast thou not glorified. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God (Psalm 9:17). The Lord will never again hear the cries of those who are in hell.
King Belshazzar did not glorify God even though he knew better, and God killed him. Thou…O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart…But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know (Daniel 5:22,23). That night, the handwriting on the wall said that Belshazzar’s soul was going to be required of him; Daniel gave the interpretation of it. This is the interpretation of the thing…God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it…Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting…Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians. In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain (Daniel 5:26-28,30). That night, Belshazzar died; and he has been in hell for thousands of years. When the Lord closes the door of hell on people, He will never remember them again; and He will never torture His children with remembering them either.
Go God’s Way
A young man once told me, “I want to go to Heaven, but I want to go on my terms.” I let him know he would never get there that way. He was so arrogant in the hands of the devil; and if he doesn’t get right with God, he will no doubt die and go to hell. The spirit of disobedience has taken so many young people over. Some of them do things they know are not right and try to hide them, but they are not fooling the devil or God. How sad it will be when we will never see them in Heaven.
The Lord tells me when to stop praying for people who are without feeling; and when the Lord tells me that, I never pray another prayer for them because it would be wasted prayer. You may think you should keep praying for certain people; but when God tells me there is no need, I stop right then. I always want to know what the Lord is saying, so I keep my ears tuned to Heaven.
As soul winners, we have to make sure that we walk the straight and narrow road of holiness so we will have the message of God and be able to give it to people straight. His message is, He that committeth sin is of the devil (I John 3:8); and we must not doubt that one bit. We also must not doubt His love for those who will repent. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).
A great price was paid for people to have the opportunity to come within reach of the Middle Cross; but the spirit of the devil has closed their ears, blinded their eyes and robbed them. They stand naked before God, and some have tried to hide their nakedness like Adam and Eve did; but the Bible says, And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission (Hebrews 9:22). That is the Gospel of the Middle Cross.
Carry Your Cross
You have to take up what that Middle Cross stands for. Jesus made it a glorious Cross for all who will be obedient. If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me (Matthew 16:24). You follow Jesus through divine love, divine faith and divine peace. Are you a peacemaker or a troublemaker? Do you edify people with what you say? The Bible says you will be judged for every idle word. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment (Matthew 12:36).
You must be careful of what you say and do. The Lord said that if you fail to bridle your tongue, you are none of His. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain (James 1:26).
We do not have time for idle talk or playing around; we have to make every day and night count for God. We have to do the work of Him who has called us, and the Lord is sending us forth. True children of God have been brought together for this final hour, and we are blessed to know the man hanging on the Middle Cross and to know that we have to be born new.
The man on the left side knew nothing about a born-again experience, and he did not want to know. Instead, he scoffed at it; and many people today scoff when they hear that you can be born in the image of God, that Jesus was born of a virgin and that there will be a one flight out. The Bible says that in the last days, scoffers will walk after their own lusts saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation (II Peter 3:4). People have tried to do away with the Word of God, but they cannot because the word of the Lord endureth forever (I Peter 1:25).
The Left Cross Leads to Hell
Let’s go back to the three ways to die. The man on the left was without feeling and did not reach for or even desire Jesus. He was not afraid, but how could he have been afraid when he had no feeling? How could he have believed when he had no feeling? He was dead and did not know it.
Some people who are on the left cross claim they are all right, but they are not. They do not believe there is a burning hell, and even some preachers declare that hell is just a state of mind; but that is not what Jesus said. And I [John the Revelator] saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11,12,14,15).
The people who were on the left side the day Jesus died had cried, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Let His blood be on us, and on our children (Matthew 27:25).” His blood has been upon them for the last 2000 years, and the Jews are still suffering from that cry today all because they did not heed the voice of the Middle Cross.
Do Not Wait Too Long
The man on the right was plucked as a brand from the fire, and that is the only way some people will make it to Heaven. And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire (Zechariah 3:2)? We must look at the cross to the right and know there is last-minute hope from Heaven.
Sinner, if you will remember God today, He will remember you; but don’t wait until it is too late. Don’t wait until you are in the same condition and state of mind as the man on the left cross. It was too late for him just like it had been too late for Judas after he had fallen; and Judas knew it was too late for him, so he took his own life. If you believe in Jesus Christ and in the Middle Cross but are hanging on the right cross, you need to see the danger ahead just as the man to the right of Jesus saw it. You have to come to the realization today that you are facing death, saith the Lord. Your heart could stop beating at any time, and you would be in eternity lost and eternally damned.
You may go to church and respect God’s people. You may respect the Word of God and have a Bible in your home, and you may respect God in many ways but not enough to give your heart and life to Him. Just being on the cross to the right with good intentions isn’t enough; you have to surrender your life. You have to cry out to Jesus and tell Him that you know He is the Son of God and that He has power over death, hell and the grave.
Many of you are hanging on that cross to the right today, saith the Lord; and the penalty is, The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:20). You may console yourself by saying that you will get right with God someday, but you don’t realize how much the darkness has already closed in on you. You don’t realize how quickly you are heading for eternity and that you are almost damned. The devil is deceiving you, and you don’t realize that you have almost rejected the voice of love for the last time.
Even in all of Christ’s sufferings, the ears of the Middle Cross were open because of God’s loving grace and mercy. The Middle Cross is still saying, “You can have life; you can be set free.” Listen to the voice of the Middle Cross; it is the voice of God, the voice of Heaven, the voice of great love, peace and joy. The Middle Cross is eternal life.
You Must See Yourself
The left cross is eternal damnation, and the right cross is just one step away from it; and that is where you are today, Sinner and Backslider. Don’t be deceived just because you know that God is God, because you go to church at times or because you think you will get right one day. Many people with good intentions are in hell today because they died on the wrong cross. Today, you have the privilege of accepting Jesus dying for you; but if you don’t accept that He took your place on the Middle Cross, you will die on the left cross…and hell is forever.
The Bible says, Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near (Isaiah 55:6); and that is the right way to die. You must be born new and quit all of your sinning. Your tongue must become a tongue of love and be connected with a soul of love. You must be born new in righteousness and true holiness. That ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24). There is so much so-called holiness in the world today; but it is man’s holiness, not God’s. Just thinking that you are going to Heaven does not mean you will go there. Jesus told Nicodemus, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).
We were conceived in sin and iniquities. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me (Psalm 51:5). Nobody was born in the image of God outside of Eden until Jesus came, and then they had to be born new through the divine blood. That is the power of the Gospel—to be born of the Spirit of God and be made a new creature. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (II Corinthians 5:17). If you come to the man on the Middle Cross, you will be born new; and your place will be in the heavenly Eden as the endless ages roll.
The Victory of the Middle Cross
The Middle Cross was ugly, but Jesus made it a beautiful cross. He turned it from death into life, from torment into eternal joy and mighty rivers that flow from Heaven to Earth for us. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). Jesus turned that Cross into a supply house for all who will come to it. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely (Revelation 22:17).
When Jesus spilled His life’s blood on that Cross, He took all the ugliness of sin away. As His blood was flowing, the man on the left cross could see it and was so close to it; but he would not accept it. He was so close to eternal life, but he would not reach for it; however, the man on the right cross reached for the precious blood of life, the blood of deliverance, the blood of hope and help. He knew that Jesus was dying for him and for everybody else on Earth. He was no longer blind to the truth because that precious blood had given him sight and hope; and he cried, “When you come into your Kingdom, Lord, forgive me! I want to be a part of your Kingdom!”
When you get that close to the blood and reach out for it, you will find sweet, heavenly deliverance! That man’s burden of sin rolled away, and he had no more condemnation. The Middle Cross had paid the price for his deliverance, and he had been set free.
Think about what a pathetic-looking sight Jesus must have been taking your place and mine. He had worn the crown of thorns for us. He had taken the beatings at the whipping post for us, and He had taken the judgments of this world for us. Then He had carried that Cross and died on it for us. If Jesus had not given His life, the whole human race would have been doomed.
At one point, it looked like Jesus’ voice would be silenced forever; but man could not silence it. It was your cross and mine; and it was our death, not His. Jesus said, I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again (John 10:17,18). Jesus proved that He could take up His life again when He walked out of the tomb.
If you have accepted the Middle Cross, you are a happy person today. You know in whom you have believed, and you have no condemnation; you know you have been pardoned and set free. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1). You know there is not one speck of sin in your heart, and you are as perfect as the first Adam was before he fell and as perfect as the Second Adam. Your soul has come into perfection, God’s perfection.
Choose Your Cross
Which cross is yours today? If you are on the cross to the left or to the right, there is still a chance for you if you will humble yourself and look to the Middle Cross and see the blood that was spilled for you. Then by faith, you must apply that blood to your soul so it can wash away every sin, all condemnation and take away all the fear of hell’s fire and an angry God. Suddenly, you will see God as He is—a loving God who comes down to walk and talk with His children.
What are you going to do with the Middle Cross? It is either your cross of deliverance or your cross of judgment. It is your cross to die on or a cross that will give you life to live as the endless ages roll with no sorrows or heartaches. It is your power to be resurrected into a brand-new you. That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death (Philippians 3:10).
The Middle Cross is the voice of the Gospel; and without that Old Rugged Cross, there would be no Gospel or saving grace for us today. The Bible said Jesus was obedient even unto the death of the cross. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus despised the shame of that Cross, one that should have been ours because we had degraded ourselves in sin. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
Sinner, listen to that Gospel voice today saying, “I died for you; I took your place, but you must accept me as your sacrifice. If you don’t, my death will be worthless for you.” One day, you will look at the Middle Cross; and it will have turned into the cross of judgment, saith the Lord. There will be no love, no hope and no light for you. The light will have gone out in your world forever, and you will never again hear the Lord’s loving voice saying, Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20).
You still have time to choose the way you will die, but tomorrow you may not be able to. All the works of the devil will be cast into the lake of fire; and if you have any of his sin in you, you will be cast into the lake of fire, too.
Accept the Middle Cross
Have you decided that you will die like Jesus did on the Middle Cross? Will your cross be a glorious cross that you will carry before the throne of God and exchange it for a crown, or will it be a cross of damnation that will be cast with you into an eternal hell as the endless ages roll? You must choose this day if you will serve Jesus or not, but you had better not reject Him because this could be your last call.
Sinner, Backslider, I take you to the throne of grace in all truth saying, “You must be born again.” Some of you may have been church members for years, but you are not saved; and so many people are dying unsaved. Hear the voice of Heaven’s love pleading with you, “Oh, Sinner, come to Jesus!” Death is upon you—The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:4)—and you do not have much longer. Darkness is closing in like it did the day Christ died, and the Middle Cross is your only hope. Just knowing about the Middle Cross is not enough; you have to reach out for His precious blood that stained the Old Rugged Cross and receive Him into your heart.
Believe this servant of God and say this prayer right now: Oh, God, I am lost. I do not have a born-again experience, and I know I am lost. Lord, you said if I would seek you that you are the door to Heaven, and I would get in. I confess that I am a sinner, and I am so sorry that I have sinned against you; but, dear Jesus, I have come home. I believe the blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins, and I will serve you for the rest of my life. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in!
If you meant that prayer, He has come. That was what happened to me over seventy years ago, and I am still telling the story of it today. But after I was saved, I did not stop there; I went on to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. I knew I had to have Him, and you will have to have the Holy Ghost, too, if you want to make the Rapture.
Claim Your Miracle
Now that you have found the Lord, know that healing is the children’s bread. Don’t ask for a crumb. When Jesus saved you, He did not save you one sin at a time; He washed away all your sins at once, and He heals that way, too. When Jesus was here, He said to people, Wilt thou be made whole (John 5:6)? I was dying at the age of twenty-three, and I had many afflictions in my body; but when Jesus healed me, He made me whole all over!
Wilt thou be made whole? You can be healed of any disease because I use the blood; and the Lord has taught me that there is healing in the divine blood for all diseases, even AIDS.
Lord, here are those who have AIDS, diabetes, lung trouble, heart trouble, cancer, leprosy and those who have suffered strokes. Here are the little, deformed babies; you have healed many of them again and again. Heal! in the name of Jesus. Heal! in the holy name of the Lord.
Feel His power and the greatness of the Holy Ghost power surging through you as He uses the blood to make you whole. The blood drives out all diseases and afflictions, so be thou made well and live holy before the Lord. When the Lord healed people, He told them to sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee (John 5:14). That says it all.
I hope to see you in Heaven one day, but that will only happen through a born-again experience and through the blood of Jesus that stained the Middle Cross. Thank God for His holy Word that the devil cannot destroy. God said it; I believe it, and that settles it. Now, believe His Gospel, and it will settle your life for all eternity in a Heaven built by the hands of our loving God.
