They Limited God
by Ernest Angley
September 2003
When you limit God in any way, in any measure, you are in trouble, digging your own grave in many cases. God is your source of supply, your help. His is the only hand on planet Earth today that supplies everything that a man, woman, boy or girl needs; it’s all in the great hand of God, and it’s there for you.
Psalm 78:41, Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. The great God of the universe didn’t intend for the man and woman He had made to ever limit Him. Trusting them, He didn’t look into their future to see what they were going to do.
Did God Know?
Some people have asked the question: Did God know man was going to sin? I wanted to know the answer. I had heard people talk about it, and I just couldn’t believe that God would have created this human race knowing how it was going to turn out, knowing there would be so many multitudes—billions—that would be turned into hell, into the lake of fire as the eternal ages roll; God is not like that. He made man in all love.
God has the power to know and the power not to know. He visited me one day and told me He did not know man would fall, that seeking to know would not have been putting faith in man. He asked man to put faith in Him, to trust Him completely, and in return He had to trust man and woman completely. No, the Lord did not know man would fail Him.
God has proven that He did not know man would fail. Do you think He would have planned such a thing knowing that His Son would have to die? Do you think God planned to give the brightest jewel of Heaven to a horrible death on the Cross? Tears flowed in Heaven when Jesus died on that Cross; the angels cried. We don’t know all about it now, but we know that Heaven cried and is still crying. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost will cry until the last soul is brought in that can be brought in.
God Rewards Faith
God made man and woman, gave them everything. If only they had not limited God…but they did limit Him, failed Him. When you fail to believe God, you limit Him. He is the God of all the promises in this Book. He has never failed and never will fail one of His promises.
Because people are limiting God today, they’re not receiving what God wants to give them. They become disillusioned about the promises of God, thinking He has failed them. God has not failed them; they have failed God; He cannot honor doubt, unbelief. The Israelites tempted God because of their unbelief and limited Him with their disobedience; they wouldn’t use the faith that God had given them.
Trade Your Best for His Best
Psalm 78:10, They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law. The Israelites refused to obey God just as Adam and Eve one day refused to obey Him. Many people today are refusing to obey God in everything. But this is the hour not to give one refusal to the Lord, not to refuse Him anything. God is not refusing you anything. He’s offering you protection, deliverance, salvation, healing; you should be willing to trade your all for His all anytime, to trade your best for His best.
God does not mean for us to carry doubt, fear, frustration, oppression, depression and despair; but most Christians carry these things, and God is limited. The Son of God came down to give you victory over depression and oppression. He went about healing all who were oppressed of the devil. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him (Acts 10:38). Depression and oppression don’t come from God; they come from the devil. Man didn’t have those things in the beginning, for then there were no limits on God.
The Lord Sets Free
When there are no limits on Him, the Lord delivers, sets people free from all bondages. Jesus sets you free. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36). The only freedom some people talk about is the freedom that came when the Lord forgave their sins. Salvation is wonderful, but it’s just the beginning. Jesus made you a new creation in Him, made you ready, on your way to receive His best. But if you limit God, He can’t serve His best to you, and you are denying His promises.
They Forgot His Works
God did many wonderful things for the Israelites, and the Psalmist was reminding the people how they failed, how they limited Him. They forgot his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them (Psalm 78:11). God showed the Israelites many signs and wonders before He brought them out of Egyptian bondage. He knew they had been misguided, mistreated and abused, and He sought to heal it all by giving Himself completely to them in all power. There wasn’t anything God would not have done for the Israelite people; there wasn’t anything He denied them as long as they did not limit Him. They weren’t expected to build a bridge across the Red Sea or furnish a ship to take them across; no. All they had to do was not limit Him, and that’s all you have to do in this walk today with Jesus.
Some of you bring hard times upon yourself because you limit God, saith the Lord. When you limit God, you cut your supply line. When you limit God, you come up short. When you limit God, you close His hand and He cannot serve you. When you don’t go to His table in faith-believing, you limit God. By begging God in fear, doubt, despair, rather than asking in faith, He is limited. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). He that cometh to God must believe. If you believe God why would you beg? Why beg for something you believe is yours? All you have to do is ask.
Many people are deceived about limiting God; they don’t think they limit Him, but anytime they entertain doubt, fear, frustration, despair, they limit God. Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness (Isaiah 50:2). Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear (Isaiah 59:1). God’s hand is big enough to hold everything the whole world needs today, but you limit God if you give ear to the archenemy of God, if you listen to the devil.
Eve never would have limited God had she not listened to the devil. Had Adam not listened to Eve’s deceit, he wouldn’t have limited God. But they both listened to the wrong thing, and they both lost out. They limited God and He couldn’t save them, couldn’t keep them in the Garden of Eden; they had to go.
God Tried Different Remedies
There were different remedies God used in His efforts to save mankind, but He was limited. In Noah’s day, man had limited God so much that He destroyed everyone but eight souls, and it’s hard to tell how many people were on the earth at that time. Did that work? No, those who came afterward still limited God. God put a rainbow in the sky, a promise that He would never destroy the world with water again, but what did they do? They doubted that promise and started building a tower to heaven, the tower of Babel, just in case something would happen and they would be scattered.
They said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth (Genesis 11:4-9). They planned to build a way of escape. It was a tower of doubt and disobedience, a tower of the devil. God had no hand in it; He hated it, despised it; so He came down, confounded their language and scattered them in all directions.
Today people are still scattered, still speak different languages, and that’s one reason they don’t get along better. They don’t have understanding, and misunderstanding causes wars and rumors of wars.
Hold Tight to the Word of God
If you have faith, recognize it. Most of you have human faith to know that you can move your hands to do your work, to turn a knob on a door, to hold on to that which you want to hold on to. Faith is just that certain. God has given you faith-hands to hold on to that which He told you to hold on to.
God told one of the seven churches of Revelation to hold on to what they had, to hold it tight. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast (Revelation 3:3). How could they hold tight to what they had received and heard? Through faith. Hold tight to the promises of God; reach out and let miracles become living reality.
Yield to the Blood
Some of you need a miracle, but you have misgivings and wonder if God will heal you. Am I good enough to be healed? Decide you’re going to get healed, and if you’re not good enough, you’ll get good enough through the blood of Jesus. There is forgiveness in the blood, so it doesn’t matter what condition you’re in; if you yield to the blood, you’ll be delivered, set free.
People come to my services who are devil possessed; yet they are delivered from many devils right in front of the congregation. But instead of being encouraged, some Christians who have witnessed these deliverances are discouraged; they don’t like it. I’ve received letters after crusades in past years here in America objecting to the fact that I would lay hands on the alcoholics and drug addicts before I prayed for them. There they are, living like the devil, and they get delivered, get healed; and we sat there unhealed. You didn’t even get to us. With that attitude, they never should expect God to move for them. They all were at the healing table; I brought them all there, but their resentment limited God. I am amazed at people who don’t think God should serve sinners ahead of Christians, who think that He shouldn’t give a sinner a miracle until He has healed all the Christians.
You are at the table now; come and dine; let His Word heal you. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions (Psalm 107:20). Don’t limit God.
Paul writing to the church at Corinth said that some in their midst had died ahead of their time because they didn’t discern the Lord’s body. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep (I Corinthians 11:29,30). They limited the Lord, limited the fulfillment of His promises of healing, and they died early in life. Limiting God can cut off your years.
Have Faith in God
Mark 11:22, Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. What if you came to God for the answer to your problem, and He would say: You know, I doubt I can do this. How would you feel? Do you think your heart would keep beating or stop right then? What if God were to walk up to you and say: I don’t think I can take you to Heaven; I don’t think I have enough strength to see you through. How would you feel?
Is God able to take you to Heaven? Do you really think if you died before the Rapture that your body would be resurrected? Your bones dried up, the flesh all gone, and then you come out of that grave in a new body…if you believe that, you have real faith. If you really believe that, then you have enough faith to get a miracle; why not use it and get healed today?
If Lazarus had been some of you, he never would have walked out of that tomb. Knowing he’d been dead four days and nights and that he “stinketh” by now, when he heard the voice of the Lord saying Come forth! he would have said: Lord, you don’t know what you are talking about. I’ve been dead all this time; there isn’t such a thing as coming forth. But when Jesus cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth …he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go (John 11:43,44).
Use the Faith You Have
You say you have faith? Prove it by using it; that’s what the Lord wants you to do. People can be ragged and starving, yet claim to have money; but others don’t believe they have money unless they spend a little of it to get themselves clothes and food. In the same manner you can be a spiritual pauper and still claim you have God’s faith; others won’t believe it until they see that faith in action. It’s a disgrace to God not to use faith. As long as people stay away from the devil, they can believe God.
If you want to get healed, there is preparation, just as in the hospital you’re prepared for surgery. However, if you run off before the doctor has operated, he can’t help you. And if you run off and leave God before He gets you ready, He can’t give you your miracle.
Don’t Blame God
God was good to the Israelite people. We call Abraham the father of the faithful; however, not all were that faithful. His seed went into Egyptian bondage for over four hundred years; but at the end of that trying time the Lord had problems bringing the Israelites out of bondage. Did they worship God? A lot of them worshiped the gods of Egypt. That’s the reason that later in the wilderness they made a golden calf; it was their downfall. They limited God in such a dreadful way that all who were over twenty years old when they left Egypt never made it to Canaan.
When you limit God’s bright promises, you’re not going to accomplish all that He has promised you; but don’t blame God, blame yourself; and don’t blame the devil because he can’t keep you from using faith if you really want to use it.
Psalm 78:12-14, Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers…He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap. In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. God had done all that for the Israelites in addition to the plagues that He sent. The Psalmist reminded people through the Spirit of the living God that He had killed the firstborn of the Egyptians and not one of the Israelites. God smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham. But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock (Psalm 78:51,52). God showed Israel His great love, showed them if they would not limit Him that nothing would keep them out of the land of Canaan. He would drive out seven nations before them, and in a matter of days they would be in the Promised Land. Quickly they could have settled down, enjoyed themselves, and no longer been in bondage if they hadn’t limited I-Am. But it wasn’t to be. Because they limited God, it was forty years before they got to the Promised Land.
All Things Are Possible
How many times have you limited God with your unbelief? The man who came to Jesus in Mark’s Gospel, the ninth chapter, had taken his son to the disciples and they couldn’t heal him. Now he brought the son to Jesus and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. And he [Jesus] asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us (Mark 9:17,18,21,22). If you can do anything…he was limiting the Lord.
When you use if with the Lord, you have limited God. You might as well decide you’re not going to get a miracle till you get that if out of the way. Jesus threw that if right back at the father. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23). Christ never said anything less to anyone; He told them to only believe.
Jairus was told his daughter was dead and not to trouble the Master any further. But as soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. [Jairus did believe and he proved it; he went right along with Jesus.] And he [Jesus] cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat (Mark 5:36,38-43). When Jesus got to the house, he put all the doubters out, and the miracle took place.
Let God Do Things His Way
If people are hurting your faith, the Lord can take that hindrance away if you really want to believe God. If someone by his or her doubt is hindering your believing God, He can push that one aside and move in to bring deliverance. Jesus proved it when He was here on Earth.
Almost everything was wrong when Jesus arrived, but He came to set things right—God-right that is, not man-right, God-right. He set lives right, and people who didn’t limit Him received great help.
Thomas was doing quite well as long as everything went the way he thought it should. A lot of people are like Thomas. As long as God does things the way they think He should, He’s all right. But when God does things His way, they don’t like it. When Thomas didn’t think Christ would be crucified he was telling everyone, This is the Redeemer, the Messiah, the Christ, our I-Am. He has come, and deliverance is ours; He’s going to set up His Kingdom and we’re a part of it. Come on, people, come on! But where was Thomas when Christ was resurrected? His opinions had been smashed and he went somewhere to pout, to feel sorry for himself. Don’t feel sorry for yourself when you limit God. God is a just God and if you limit Him, you deserve whatever you get.
Expect great miracles from God; get ready for them so you won’t limit God. If you limit God, how do you expect Him to give you a miracle? I’ve prayed for people who totally expected to be in the same condition after prayer that they were in before. I tell them to try out their miracle, but they say, “Oh, I can’t. I can’t do that!” They limit God.
Instantly Healed
A woman who had broken her leg on Saturday was planning to come to my Sunday service. She wrote a note to tell me, I’ve broken my leg, Reverend Angley, and I want prayer; but don’t tell me to get up and walk on that leg because it’s broken. I don’t always read notes before a service—that’s not a good time—so I just stuck it in my Bible for later. They rolled her down front for the service. There she sat, her leg in a cast, thinking I had read her note. I walked over to her and in the name of Jesus commanded the bones to come to normal. I expected them to do just that. Then I said, “Come on lady, get up!” She didn’t fuss with me, didn’t argue with me, she just got up and started walking; she had her miracle. Had that been some people, they would have said, I wrote you a note. Can’t you read? No, she didn’t do that; she just got up and walked.
Sometime the next week, I don’t know how many days later, I found her note in my Bible. God hadn’t wanted me to see that note before I prayed for her. She was limiting God with that note—and what if I had joined in with her? She needed someone to tell her to get up from there and walk, and that’s just what I did. In all faith I expected her to have her miracle.
I’ve prayed for many broken legs and God healed them; the people got up and walked right away. I prayed for one man who had a broken leg, and he walked over two miles the next day.
I expect God to heal. When we were building the Cathedral on Canton road, we had many volunteer workers. I stayed on the job much of the time. On this particular day, I had been there for a number of hours. However, I left for a while, and during the time I was gone, one of the workers inside the building fell off a ladder onto the cement floor. The ceiling was high and he had been up in that area working. The fall broke his arm, and other workers took him to the hospital. When I got back I heard the news: “Reverend Angley, a worker fell and broke his arm; they’ve rushed him to the hospital.” I thought, Oh, my Lord! If only I’d been here! I knew God would have healed him. God didn’t want him off the job; He had a work for him to do.
They came back from emergency with him; his arm had been X-rayed and put into a cast. I looked at him and said, “God will heal you.” I knew He would. Because he had faith, after I prayed for him he took off his cast and went back to work, as normal as ever.
I can’t believe that! Well, then you’re limiting God and that’s the reason I’m telling you some fantastic things He has done.
Miracles of Re-creation
I prayed for a woman whose foot was almost entirely severed. Only a little bit of skin was holding it.
“Just let me clip that,” the doctor told her.
“No, Ernest Angley is coming for a miracle service, and I’m going to go and get a miracle,” she said. The doctor thought she was in fanaticism, I guess; but he felt that one more day wouldn’t matter, so he wrapped it and let her go. It was amazing to see how that foot had been wrapped! When she got to me, she told me her foot was off; just a little piece of skin was holding it and the doctor had wanted to clip it, but she wouldn’t let him. She had held onto God, and the Lord gave that woman a new foot. A man saw this miracle on television and said, That woman had a fifty-year-old foot on one side and the foot of a young girl on the other side. The Lord had given the miracle right on the spot; He put that foot together.
I can’t believe that. Why do you think I am telling you these things? I’m trying to get you to stop limiting God. If I received a miracle on my foot like that woman, I’d believe. Maybe; but had you doubted, you would have been too afraid to try it out. She came expecting God to move to the extent that she had even brought her shoe along. Did that woman have good sense? She had the best sense I’ve come in contact with; she had faith sense, and you can’t go beyond that.
A lady came into the healing line who had had two-and-a-half inches of her spine removed. She was on crutches, of course. A member of a large church, she had been like a part of the pastor’s family for a number of years. But he didn’t believe in divine healing; he limited God. She came to my service and the Lord put those two-and-a-half inches back in her spine instantly, and she walked out completely healed in her spine. She thought her pastor would be delighted to hear about her miracle so she headed out to see him. But when she told him what had happened, he wasn’t pleased at all. When she said, “Ernest Angley,” his stomach that was already soured was ready to throw up.
“That’s not of God,” he said.
“But I’m walking!” she replied.
“It’s of the devil,” he insisted.
She was devastated. She came back and told me the story herself. She said she had loved him so much, and it cut through her like a knife to hear him say that her miracle was of the devil. He hadn’t said God would heal her or do anything for her when she had been on crutches; and, I say again, he had been a close friend. But when the Lord re-created her spine, put in those two-and-a-half inches, she wasn’t a good friend any longer.
Later that pastor had a heart attack and wanted everyone to pray for him. He had taught against divine healing, fought divine healing, so why should he have expected God to heal him of a heart attack? If God’s going to heal anyone, it ought to be someone who believes.
Blaspheming the Holy Ghost
If you’re going to fight God’s miracles, don’t come to me when you think you’re dying. There’s no need to call me to pray for you when you limit God. Those who have spit in the eye of God, classified His works with the works of the devil, are blaspheming against the Holy Ghost; Jesus said so when He was here. Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men (Matthew 12:22-31).
This passage is the first time blaspheming against the Holy Spirit is mentioned in the Bible. The Pharisees were calling the Spirit within Jesus, the Holy Ghost who was performing all those miracles, a devil; and Jesus said there was no forgiveness for that. Jesus meant business, meant what He said, and still stands by it today.
Act Out Your Faith
Many people talk faith, but don’t use it. Talking faith is no good; faith has to be acted out. Faith is not something you necessarily feel. Sometimes you feel it, but faith is accepting every word that God has said and acting on it exactly as He said it; you never act any other way.
The Lord said He would heal you. I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26). Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases (Psalm 103:2,3). It’s your business to believe, and it’s God’s business to get you well; we’re all in business together and it works. But if you don’t believe God’s Word, you limit God. No matter what God does for you, you limit Him by unbelief.
Faith Sense
Do you have faith sense or feeling sense today? You were born with feeling sense, but when you are born again you reach for faith sense. To everyone is given faith sense: God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith (Romans 12:3). Why not use it?
My mama used to tell me, “You’ve got sense, young man; now use it!” She let me know when I was acting as though I didn’t have any sense. Mama would speak with authority, and I’m speaking with authority today from on High: You have faith, now start using it.
One time I preached a sermon called, “I Accuse Christianity.” People wrote and wanted to know where I got the authority to accuse Christianity. I told them I got it from On High. I accused Christianity for its doubt, for limiting God, for the way it had treated God. The Lord told me I was to take Christianity to court, and I did. It created quite a stir, and I enjoyed it. It’s wonderful to drop one of God’s bombs, then to go circling back to see the results, for God always gives results.
Jesus saw results, and Thomas saw results after he stopped limiting God.
Faith in God Heals the Sick
Do you want a miracle today enough to use the faith that God has given you? This is faith healing—faith in God heals the sick—not faith in Ernest Angley, but faith in Ernest Angley’s God. Faith in God will do it. Are you going to keep limiting God in this last hour? The miracles God is performing through this Jesus ministry are getting greater and greater; if you doubt those miracles, you’re limiting God, saith the Lord, and you’re in trouble.
God is not going to force you to believe; He’s simply going to give you an opportunity to believe. He gave the Israelites plenty of opportunity to believe; He knew what they had gone through. He knows that some of you have been reared in a dead church and you haven’t been taught about miracles and healings. Now He’s giving you a chance to believe, a chance to take off all limitations and say, Go ahead, God, and do it. Lord, you said it and I accept it. I’m going to act out what you said and not doubt.
If God said it, that’s it for me; I never argue with God. I don’t want to have doubt concerning God. Some people debate with one another about whether or not God is real. Of course He’s real; if He weren’t, you wouldn’t exist. Your life is but one sign that He’s alive, a good gauge; it’s just that simple.
Does God love you? Of course He loves you; why shouldn’t He love you? You don’t have to be beautiful outside for Him to love you. Jesus died for the vilest, ugliest sinner in the world, didn’t He? So you don’t have to look in the mirror and think you’re not pretty enough to be healed or that you’re too short or too tall. You may never please people, but you can please the Lord through the blood of Jesus. When you do not limit the blood, God can move for you in perfection. It’s a blood work for soul, mind and body.
With His blood stripes you have physical healing today. He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). However, if you limit God, you limit the fulfillment of His promise of healing. Thomas evidently got along well as long as he didn’t limit God; but he limited the Lord when things became difficult. No matter what misfortune happens to you in life, never blame God. God is not a God of hate; He loves you with an unending, everlasting, eternal love.
Don’t Doubt the Rapture
The Israelites experienced fantastic miracles, yet they didn’t believe God. The Bible says, They believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation (Psalm 78:22). The Israelites completely doubted God even after all they had seen Him do. The Israelites didn’t get out of the wilderness for forty years, and there are people today who won’t get out of the wilderness of this Earth when the Rapture takes place.
By limiting God, you will miss many things in this hour. Your doubt won’t limit the Rapture; your place in it just won’t be filled. The Rapture will leave many behind who limit the Lord.
Again and again the Lord is warning us that it’s time to believe Him, time to please Him. The Bible tells us that the Lord translated (raptured) Enoch because he pleased God. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God (Hebrews 11:5). That was the only reason given—he pleased God. You cannot please God and limit Him at the same time.
Fiery Serpents
Because the Israelites didn’t please God, they were in the wilderness dying by the thousands. Sometimes God would kill many at one time because they had sinned and limited Him; this time He sent poisonous serpents: And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died (Numbers 21:6).
Then in God’s mercy, He used a type of Christ on the Cross to heal. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived (Numbers 21:8,9). But many Israelites died because they looked at their swollen limbs instead of looking on the serpent of brass; they wouldn’t believe what God had told them.
If you’re not getting along well spiritually today it’s because you’re limiting God in your life, and you might as well face it. This may hurt, but it can help you. If you’re fighting for the reality of Jesus, you’re limiting God. Let Jesus make Himself real to you through His salvation, His blood, His love, His peace, His grace, His power. Let Him make Himself real through the Word, the living Word, the written Word, the spoken Word of God.
Changed in a Moment
Why should you doubt God? It’s time to believe Him. Man could not have created the sun and the moon. Man thought he had really done something fantastic to get to the moon and put a foot on it. What would he have thought had he created it? Man can’t even make one little star much less a big one. But when the Lord got ready He simply threw out a handful of stars and filled the sky. He just said, Let it be, as He stood on the balconies of Heaven.
Sometime in this hour God will cry, Let it be! and people will be changed in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye no matter what the devil tells people. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (I Corinthians 15:51,52). For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord (I Thessalonians 4:16,17). We’ll be caught away to be with the Lord forever. It’s going to happen, oh, glory be to God!
People have been talking about the Rapture for years, and now it’s just ahead. In Noah’s day the Lord waited one hundred twenty years for the ark to be built, but the last day finally came. The Lord’s been waiting a mighty long time, almost two thousand years now, for the Rapture. Wake up and believe, for you’re not wide-awake if you don’t believe. It’s time to move, time to doubt your doubts, to doubt the devil instead of God.
No Fear in Love
People puzzle me. Many have so much doubt, but they never doubt their doubts. They have fear, but they never doubt their fear. Then the Lord gives them love, tells them His love will cast out all fear, and they doubt His love; they won’t use it. They put it on the shelf and say they’ve got it. But where is it? Oh, it’s up there on the shelf somewhere, or it’s in the closet. I can’t find it for all the fear, but I know it’s in there. I love the Lord, but I’m just scared to death.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love (I John 4:18). God’s perfect love will cast out all fear. Why be a container of fear, frustration, despair, doubt and all the other junk of the devil? It’s time to unload. It’s time to take on the grace of Jesus, time to yield to Him. It’s time to stop limiting those precious nail-riven hands that were nailed to the Cross for you. Look and see what’s really offered to you at Calvary. Take all the limitations off.
Have you doubted God in the past week? If an angel would appear and say that in ten minutes God is going to kill everybody who has one doubt, would you get rid of the doubt before you were killed? I don’t think I would have to preach to you anymore about limiting God; you’d be free in ten minutes and testifying to God that all your doubts were gone. All it took was for one angel to tell you that death was a breath away.
God, remember, killed people in the wilderness because they doubted Him, limited Him. He killed all who were above twenty years of age. Then He let their children go into the Promised Land. But they limited God in Canaan in all that beautiful land, all that land of plenty. No matter what God does for some people, they still doubt Him.
If you want to doubt God, it’s easy; the devil will help you do it. But friend, if you want to believe God, it’s just as easy to believe. Is your God about the size of a man with the strength of a man who never gets any stronger? Do you think He has the love only a human being might carry and never goes beyond? If so, you’re limiting God.
Numbers 23:19, God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? I read this passage and I don’t see a man; I see Lord God Almighty who has all power. I see the Savior; I see the Redeemer called Jesus, the healing Christ, the only begotten Son of God.
Why Not Be Happy?
Take off all limitations; you can do it. You can live a life of freedom in the land of spiritual Canaan in this last and final hour; and oh, what a blessing you will be, how you can serve! Realize the liberty and freedom you can have, the joy and peace that will be yours. You have things money can’t buy: everlasting joy, everlasting peace, everlasting gladness, and the everlasting promises of God; you have it all. Why not be happy over it all? Why pine if everything isn’t going just right? Why keep your mind on your unbelieving kin people? If they’re not pleasing God, then God isn’t looking at them; He’s turned away. Why don’t you give your attention to those who are serving God, living for Him, people who are receiving from the Lord? Why not talk and listen to people who have faith in God? God doesn’t ask you to hear doubters.
Stop fooling yourself, thinking you have all the limitations off. One moment you say the limitations are off, and the next moment you say you can’t believe. The Lord gave you faith to believe Him; He’s mighty generous that way. He gave you love; love and faith are great companions; you can’t separate the two. God’s love and God’s faith will do anything. What about your case? Does that cover you or did you leave yourself out?
How much do you leave yourself out when you read this Bible? When those promises are flowing like mighty rivers, do you, like Ezekiel, have waters to swim in (Ezekiel 47:5)? Or do you tiptoe around in ankle-deep water afraid you’re going to drown, and then crawl back up on the shore and limit God? What are you doing today? Let’s journey into the greatness of God and get your miracle so you can be a living witness for the Lord.
Be a Real Witness
The Lord declared that He would make witnesses; it’s time to be a real witness in this final hour. But you’re not going to make a good witness by limiting God. You’ll be saying, I think it happened; I think I got a miracle; I hope I’ll be all right. Do you think I’m going to be all right? Look at this; does it look better? Has it gone down any at all? The Lord didn’t say how it would look; He said He would get you well. What are you going to believe? Are you going to believe the swelling more than you believe the promise? If the Lord promises you’re going to get well, don’t you think you ought to accept the fact and expect it? Don’t you think you ought to be praising God right away, thanking Him in advance for the miracle? Can’t you trust Him that much? Can’t you be happy in His telling you in advance you’re going to get well, or are you going to limit Him?
God is too good to be limited. As long as God is on the throne, you have nothing to fear, nothing to worry about. He’s in love with you and He wants to help you, to bless you. It’s God’s will for His children to be well, and for sinners to be cured, soul, mind and body, also. He wants to set you free. Then you can go forth shouting the praises of God; no matter whom you meet, you’ll be able to tell them God gave the miracle.
Without a doubt you can say that God is a healing God, a life-giving God, the Creator of mankind. Without a doubt you can believe that Jesus is coming soon. With full assurance and all the faith that Jesus spoke it, you can tell people that this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come (Matthew 24:14).
We have to speak the Word as Jesus spoke it in perfect faith, perfect love and perfect believing, not doubting one moment and believing the next. He said these signs shall follow them that believe; speak the Word and it will be done. These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues…they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17,18).
Are you doubting or believing, which is it? I say again, you can’t doubt and believe at the same time. Doubt and faith won’t mix any more than oil and water will mix. If you’re trying to pour faith in on your doubt, it won’t mix. Empty up of that doubt; get it out of the way, and then let the Lord fill you up to the brim with faith. God’s Word works and mixes with His faith. The Word of God is a faith Book, a love Book, and as we mix the Word and the promises of God with faith and love today, the miracles will take place; they will happen again and again. Do you really believe that with all your heart, no reservations? Do you really trust it?
Salvation and Healing Prayers
If you are unsaved, accept His promise of salvation. Jesus died for all. He said if you came to Him, He wouldn’t cast you out if you’d only believe His forgiveness.
Sinner, pray this prayer with me: Oh, God, save my soul. I’m so sorry that I have sinned against you, but I have come home. I will serve you, Lord, the rest of my life. I believe Jesus died for me and His blood washes away all my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in!
If you believed that prayer, it’s happened; it can’t be any other way. God never lies; Jesus is yours. Start praying, reading your Bible, and good Bible fasting will help you, too.
You who need healing, the Lord told me He would heal the people. He’s healed thousands, untold multitudes; there’s no way to number them, and all kinds of miracles and healings are taking place now. It’s amazing what God is doing in this our final hour.
Mother, that baby, that little deformed one can be cured. God has cured others. These supernatural gifts in my life are divine gifts operated by the Holy Spirit: The Lord is the healer. Are you ready? If you have blindness, deafness, God is the healer. Maybe you’re in need of heart surgery: The Lord can re-create the heart; He’s done it again and again. There’s no cure for diabetes or for AIDS through medical science, but Jesus has the cure. We believe in good doctors and good hospitals; however, they can only do so much. The Lord can do anything and everything; with Him all things are possible. I’ve seen Him do the unbelievable in a split second of time again and again. I’ve seen Him give sight to the totally blind; those who were never to have walked again walked in the name of Jesus. To see a deformed body come to normal before your eyes is a wonder to behold.
Lord, I bring the sick and the afflicted to you. I bring the cancer victims, the heart patients, the diabetics, those with AIDS. I bring the little children who are sick, afflicted, deformed. Some of them are blind, but it’s such a small thing for you to heal them, to give them sight, to give them a normal brain. In the name of Jesus, as a servant of the living God, I come. I come with your promises, your love, your faith. I come with your authority. Heal! in the blood name of Jesus. Heal! in the all-powerful name of Jesus, I pray.
The healing power of the Lord is flowing. Don’t limit God. Remember the statement of the Psalmist: He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions (Psalm 107:20). With God all things are possible; only believe what God has said, that’s all, and let God move for you today. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever (Hebrews 13:8).
