Then Came the Power
by Ernest Angley
July 2003
God had waited a long time to rain down the power of His Spirit, and at last He was able to rain it down on the Early Church. But then the Church lost that power, and again He has waited all these hundreds of years—almost two thousand years—and now the power is coming down again; God is pouring it out. It isn’t a sprinkle; it’s a downpour. You can have as much of the power of God as you need, as much as you will use. The Lord will see to it that you are furnished with it.
The Spirit is given to the Bride now without measure, saith the Lord, just like the Spirit was given to Christ without measure. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him (John 3:34). Up until the time of Jesus, the Spirit was measured out to a special few. Then Jesus received the Spirit without measure, and without measure it was given to the Early Church. Now we have come along to finish up the Church Age and, again, it’s the Spirit without measure.
Acts 1:8, But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Receiving power was a promise to the disciples from the Master’s lips; they didn’t know all about the power, but they had witnessed it in action. They had seen the Lord use it, and then the Lord used His power through them for a short period of time. Jesus sent forth the twelve, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give (Matthew 10:5-8). The disciples used the power, but until the Upper Room, they couldn’t hold on to it.
You Shall Receive Power
You, too, must get to the Upper Room no matter how steep the steps might seem. No matter how much doubt you have about whether the Lord will baptize you in the Holy Ghost, you must climb those steps. You may feel you can never get there, but you can make it. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call (Acts 2:39). The promise of the Holy Ghost is to everyone who is born again.
The power written about in the book of the Acts of the Apostles belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ today, and we’re going to use it all. In this final hour, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit will be greater than it was in the Early Church. Why? Because many more people are on planet Earth, and the power has to be greater to cover “whosoever will.” The Lord told me that His power first would come in streams, next in rivers of living water flowing forth, and finally it would be oceans of His great love, His mighty Gospel and power to cover the whole earth. Then the end will come.
Now the living waters are flowing like rivers from the throne of God. Jesus said that from our innermost being will flow rivers of living water; none of us are left out; we’re all counted in. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). The Lord is reaching out with love, love, love.
Ye shall receive power. What is power? When the body is quickened by the Spirit, when the body shakes, jerks, or moves about, is that the power? No, those are the results of the power, the effects of the power of God. You become affected, charged with the power, and you’re emotional with it. You feel it; your whole body is quickened with it, but that isn’t the power within itself. The power of God seeks to do the work of God on Earth as it is done in Heaven.
Put on the Whole Armor of God
Can we use the power of God? Part of the answer is found in Ephesians: Take the whole armor of God. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:10,11). We are to be strong in His power; the might of Him is ours. The might of God is the ultimate power in Heaven and on Earth. No other power is that great; there could never be a greater power.
Ephesians 6:12, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Since we wrestle not against flesh and blood, our power has to be a different kind of power, power over the devil, over the powers of darkness, the powers of hell.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand (Ephesians 6:13). The Bride will stand because her life is on the line. You have to give your all to have God’s armor. How much do you want it? Is it more valuable than your life? Think how worthless your life would be if you didn’t have any protection from Heaven, protection against the powers of darkness, against the powers of evil.
Ephesians 6:14, Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth. Truth is part of God’s great power. Jesus said, Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).
Sin can’t mix with truth. Sin is all false; no truth is in it. Nothing false is in truth. Truth has such power of God in it that man shall not live by bread alone, but through the truth of the Word. It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).
Ephesians 6:14, And having on the breastplate of righteousness. Power is in righteousness, and the truth of God is power from on High. The power came, the truth came, and those in the Upper Room, righteous through the blood of Jesus, accepted both.
Ephesians 6:15, And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. The power in the peace of God destroys oppression and depression. Children of God, you who have carried oppression and depression, you haven’t really used God’s peace.
The Gospel of peace is the Jesus peace, one of the nine fruits of the Spirit. How much of that peace have you used? To the born again, the Lord gives peace in the soul. As you yield to the Holy Spirit through prayers and fastings, living before Him daily, the Holy Spirit can flow that peace from your soul right into your mind, flushing out despair, oppression, and depression.
If you’re so depressed that you have to use sleeping pills, you’re putting yourself to sleep with something that will make you even more depressed. You dread to wake up. Why? Because you know you’re going to face depression. Use the divine peace of God which will destroy that oppression and depression and give you peace to sleep.
When your feet are shod with the Gospel of peace, you walk in peace, not strife and turmoil. Jesus had shoes of peace; He walked in peace: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God (Matthew 5:9).
Do you have on the peace shoes that belong to the children of God? How have you been faring? Have you about worn your shoes out and had to put cardboard in them to keep your feet protected? You need the peace of God for that protection.
The Shield of Faith
Ephesians 6:16, Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Power is in faith, power that moves mountains. The power in faith destroys doubt, fear, and the very power of the devil. Faith used with the blood renders that old devil helpless.
You can’t have that shield of faith without love. In the perfect love of God is so much power that fear can’t stay. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love (I John 4:18). God’s love has to be used; His love must be in action before you can be an instrument of righteousness. You can’t even start to put on the armor of God unless you have love. Above all, take the love shield of faith. The love shield will protect you. The love shield will stop all the fiery darts of the devil.
Jesus said that faith the size of a grain of mustard seed, the smallest of seeds, would move mountains—that’s how powerful faith is. If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you (Matthew 17:20). Great power is in faith. Jesus lets us know that it doesn’t take a whole lot of faith, so don’t think you need a ton of it to get your prayers answered.
It’s dangerous not to use faith. Faith is as powerful as God Himself. In the eleventh chapter of Hebrews, we read of marvelous works done through faith. By faith miracles took place, love faith. The real love of God is described in I Corinthians the thirteenth chapter. Put those two chapters, Hebrews eleven and I Corinthians thirteen, together; obey them, and you, too, will be an overcomer. If you walk in love faith, you’ll walk into total obedience, total submission with perfect vision to see as God sees in this final hour. You’ll wear the shoes of Jesus, not part-time, but all the time.
Taking the shield of faith, you might be able to quench one fiery dart of the devil. Is that what the Bible says? You’d think so the way some people whimper, cry, throw down the shield and run. Or they’ll back off into a corner claiming they don’t know what’s wrong. I know what’s wrong; they won’t use the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked; all of them.
The Helmet and the Sword
Ephesians 6:17, And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. I’m glad the Bible says the helmet of salvation; the helmet covers the brain, the mind, and sets it to operating, sweeping it into the great things that made up the mind of Jesus. The sword of the Spirit—the Word of God—filled His mind.
We take on the mind of Jesus as we take on all the ingredients that made up His human mind. Had Jesus not taken on a human mind, He certainly couldn’t have proved Himself to be the second Adam. The second Adam had to be human, but He was also divine so that man and woman would be able to have divinity in them, able to become sons and daughters of God through Jesus’ divine blood.
If you’re a child of God today—blood-washed, blood-bought—then you have divinity on the inside. Jesus made it possible for you to have that divinity. Man was in a hopeless, helpless condition when Jesus came. Do you see why Jesus, the second Adam, had to come? The first Adam had lost it all. Had he only lost half, we might have survived; but he lost it all. He even lost the earth, every fruit tree; he lost everything. Going to the devil’s gambling table when he had everything to lose and nothing to gain, he sold his very soul to the devil.
Sinner, that’s what you’re doing. You’re going to the devil’s gambling table. Although the devil has nothing of value to offer, he makes you think he does; and so you put your soul on the table, gamble away your very soul. My Lord and my God, how terrible!
Great Wonders and Miracles
We find this great faith at work in Acts 6:8: And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Stephen was full of the faith and power of God. Full of faith and power, the Bride, too, will do miracles, wonders through the blood and the name of Jesus. Power is in the great things of God. All the nine fruits of the Spirit, and all the nine gifts of the Spirit have power.
The disciples had been told they would receive power from On High: Behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high (Luke 24:49). They didn’t know how it would come, but they had the example of the power working through Jesus, and they tarried in the Upper Room until that power fell. Now they could pray like Him, walk like Him, and talk like Him. Speaking the love language, they could have that love and use it all the time.
The Power of the Love Language
The Bride is going to speak the love language all the time—no whisperings and gossip. No gossip marred the beginning of the Early Church. God can’t work with the devil’s tools. He works with His power, a power holy, righteous, pure, true, clean, full of everything great and good. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning (James 1:17). Nothing good or perfect ever comes from the devil.
Acts 6:10, And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he [Stephen] spake. Stephen’s enemies didn’t believe him, but they couldn’t resist the wisdom and Spirit. Neither could the enemies of Christ resist His wisdom. The power of Heaven is in the wisdom of God, in truth; Stephen spoke through the Spirit of truth.
Stephen went on to tell his accusers in Acts 7:51, Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. This is the Gospel of Jesus. Jesus had already told the hypocrites that they had ears but didn’t hear. For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart (Matthew 13:15).
“Uncircumcised in heart,” Stephen called his accusers. Circumcision of the flesh under the Law wouldn’t keep a person in the holiness of God. No, it was just a setting apart and that was all. Circumcision of the heart is the circumcision that God recognizes: the blood of Jesus that makes the heart absolutely pure from all sin.
The soul must be set apart completely from all sin. The Lord doesn’t wash away a few sins at a time; they all have to go or none go; that’s the way it is. This group that stoned Stephen didn’t have their sins forgiven. Stiff-necked, haughty, high-minded, they stuck their noses up in the air when it came to the truth. They had it all—so they thought.
Serve the Lord in Humility
We find Paul in Acts 20:19, Serving the Lord with all humility of mind. The helmet of salvation gives you that humility of mind. To find Jesus you had to humble yourself until you loved all your enemies. You didn’t like their ways, but you loved them all. You loved everyone as long as you kept the humility that Paul was talking about, and serving God’s humility is the only acceptable way to serve the Lord and to serve people. But if the devil got in, you had a battle trying to love your enemies, trying to pray for those who were against you and despitefully used you.
Serve the Lord in humility so you can serve people in humility. If you don’t serve people in humility, you’re not going to serve them in love. Humble yourself before God and serve His love. Jesus humbled Himself, the Bible tells us, even unto the death of the Cross. And being found in fashion as a man, he [Jesus] humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:8).
How much humility will the Bride display in this final hour? I say whatever it takes, we will display it. Whatever it takes, we will use it. Whatever it takes, it’s available to us and we won’t neglect it. We will keep ourselves humble before the Lord, humble before the truth, humble so that this power can flow like mighty rivers to break the chains of bondage for people, can open the prison doors and set the captives free.
Six Spiritual Senses
Living only in the five physical senses, you can’t expect the power of God to work for you. You must go into the six spiritual senses through blood-prayer, blood-fasting, and living in the blood-Word in the most devout way to be able to use them all the time. Some of you have used the six spiritual senses a little, and you thought it was wonderful what God was able to do. But you didn’t continue to use them: And in this final hour, you must not slack up in using the spiritual senses.
The spiritual power sight—not physical sight—is beyond you in the physical sense; it’s beyond your physical eyesight. Then the spiritual power of touch, the spiritual power of taste, the spiritual power of smell, the spiritual power of hearing, and the sixth spiritual sense, the power of faith, all take you beyond yourself. But you won’t go beyond self unless you deny self, and you deny self by taking up your cross and following the Lord. You’re taking up what He has to say, taking up the truth, abiding by the truth, and living in the truth.
The Lord said, Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). When you’re hungry, you want all of God. If you’re not hungry and thirsty for Him, God won’t matter that much; you’ll have something else on your mind. Going into the greatness of God depends on how hungry for the Lord you are. When you’re about half starved, you can forget everything in the world but getting to the table and feeding yourself. That’s the urge of the physical senses. Now the spiritual senses drawing on you will bring you to the table of blessing that God has spread. If you’re hungry, you’ll push other things aside.
Like Fire Shut Up in the Bones
When God saved me, I didn’t miss a church service. I could hardly wait for the next service; I wanted to be with God’s people. I wanted to be away from the world and to hear the love language. That language was music to my ears. The drawing of love was strong in the church I was saved in. God saw to it. I needed that great love; it overwhelmed me.
You who have been made brand-new know what I’m talking about. One of the prophets said that God’s Word was like fire shut up in his bones. His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay (Jeremiah 20:9). When that fire of the Holy Ghost is shut up in your bones, it will cause you to move, to do things for the Lord, to reach to the table of the Lord.
In Review
Ephesians 6:10, remember, says to be strong in the Lord’s might and power. How can you do it? By taking on the whole armor of God, girding yourself with truth, putting on the breastplate of righteousness, and having your feet shod with the Gospel of peace. Carry the shield of faith, not for a show, but to stop the fiery darts of the devil.
When you don’t use the shield of faith, those fiery darts hit and you’re injured, bruised, and asking the Lord to please heal you. Decide that those darts of the enemy are not going to harm you, that you will use the shield of faith. And keep on the helmet of salvation so your mind will work the way it’s supposed to work, the way God intended it to work.
Wear the helmet of salvation all the time, not part-time. If you wear it only part-time, you use only part of your brain cells, and part is not enough to please God. Use all your brain cells; they’re right, spiritually speaking, if you’re right with God, if you’re where you ought to be and have on the helmet of salvation.
The sword of the Spirit, the Word: Use it in love. You don’t hurt people when you speak in love. The Bible said to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Some people speak the truth with a sharp tongue, and God isn’t pleased with that at all. They think they’re using the truth, but they’re in bad shape.
Hate the Devil
Preacher: This isn’t real to me! God has to be real to you before you love Him with all your heart—and to most Christians God is not that real. That’s the reason they’re always struggling with putting God first, with coming to church, with praying, fasting, doing the work and the will of God, and walking the way the Lord wants them to walk daily.
Do you realize that God wants you to know the devil? You’re not going to run an imaginary devil off. Some of you have tried that. You’ve told the devil to get going, but you didn’t mean it. You’re not going to hate an imaginary someone; to really hate someone, that one must be real. Christ knew the devil, and He hated him, despised him every day He was on Earth.
How much do you hate the devil? The more devil haters I have in a miracle service, the more God can do. When someone mentions that he or she has a disease, understand that it’s from the devil; and the Spirit of God will rise up in you. I get mad at the devil. Some people think I’m mad at them because I’m so ferocious in casting out devils. I may look frightening, but power gives authority. Power gives the ability to do God’s work. Take authority over darkness, over demonic spirits; know you have it. I turn into iron with that authority; I’m just that firm. Feel that strength through the spiritual senses: Why, you rotten devil! To think you could bind a person like this! Out! you foul spirits, out!
I don’t pet the devil. I don’t ask, “Will you please come out, Mr. Devil?” If some of you tried to cast out devils, you wouldn’t do it through the power of God; you’d use your own physical senses. Now devil, we don’t want to get too excited over this thing. I know I’m supposed to cast you out, but I prefer you to come out quietly. I don’t want to have any trouble with you. Do you think I’d ever get any devils cast out that way? No, and I don’t get sick people healed without realizing that the devil is the one that afflicted them and hating him for it. I love God because He has given me power to cast out devils, to cast that sickness out, to give freedom and liberty to people’s bodies.
I know what it means to be sick. I know what it means to suffer until you feel you can’t stand another second of it. I know what it means not to be able to sleep or eat. I’ve seen myself through those tortured eyes, seen my body going down. Looking upon suffering humanity gives me much compassion. Great strength is in compassion, great power to hate the devil the way he should be hated.
Despise the devil for afflicting your body. Despise the devil for giving you oppression and depression. Recognize the devil; recognize his work; recognize that what he’s put on you, you can be free of. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8).
The Lord told me one time—I’ll never forget it—that He can hate as much as He can love. I had never dreamed of hearing such a statement from God. It was profound. God can hate as much as He can love—do you realize how much hate that is? Do you know how much the devil is hated by Heaven and by God? He’s hated with the same intensity that God loves His people with. As God gave all His love for Calvary, He gives all His hate to work against the devil. The Lord will give you plenty of hate for the devil. The more love you have for God, the more hate you’ll have for the devil. Yet many children of God are not thinking about hating the devil because he isn’t real to them.
The devil, I say again, must be real to you. Some of you can be defeated by the devil because you’re not conscious of him. The devil has to be so real that you know when he’s coming against you, trying to rob you of prayer time, of fasting time, of meditating on the Word of God and your fellowship with the Lord; but you also must know he can’t win when you use the blood in all faith. The Lord allows the devil to come to you because He wants you to wake up to the fact that the devil is real.
I wish you could see the devil as I’ve seen him; you wouldn’t just say, “Devil, get going.” You’d use the blood on him, make sure you were covered with the blood, that the whole place was covered with the blood so he couldn’t get back.
All the Power of Heaven Is in the Blood
What do you think the blood is for? It has all the power of Heaven in it, and it’s your weapon to use any time, night or day—the divine blood of Jesus. He spilled it for you. He didn’t bring any of it for Himself; He brought it for you. Thank God for Jesus, I say!
Study Jesus. Jesus is as real to me as anyone else around me; in fact, I think I would be safe in saying that He’s a greater reality to me than people are. You can talk to the Lord and know He’s listening. Through the six spiritual senses, you can feel His caress of love. With all the doubt, the frustration gone, with the peace of God flooding your soul and the joy bells of Heaven ringing in your ears, you feel His mighty strength—not yours, but His. Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts (Zechariah 4:6). All the power of God is in divine blood; all the power you’ll ever need.
Jesus spent long sessions with the Father, sometimes all night long, to be ready to defeat the devil the next day. Just as we were born with the weaknesses of the human race, Jesus took on all of those weaknesses; He used only the strength that would be available to you and to me. He had to get divine overcoming power the way we have to get it.
Be Ye Holy
Jesus was here to teach us not only about Heaven’s power, but how to keep it coming down and how to use it after it gets to us so that we would be holy vessels as He was a holy vessel. The Lord said, It is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy (I Peter 1:16). In the great Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48). He meant for us to be perfected in love all the time, for the tongue to speak in the perfection of Heaven. If you intend to go to Heaven, you had better learn this love language in perfection.
It’s wonderful to be able to speak the love language. In one of His parables, Jesus told about a man who had failed to make preparations to be accepted at a wedding. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 22:11-13).
That parable is thought provoking. The man without the wedding garment had no voice. If you don’t have the love voice, you don’t have a voice that Heaven wants. Were the Lord to speak to you, you would be speechless.
The person you are each day is the person you’re going to be when the Rapture takes place. Will you be ready? Would your actions yesterday have satisfied God? Did you do everything you could for God yesterday? Did you show His love? Did you use the shield of love and faith? Did you use all His power that you needed to help others along the way? Did you really put God first? What if it had been your last day before Rapture time? Think about it.
Walk in the Steps of Jesus
Jesus showed us the way in living reality, and His way must become real to you. On bended knees, study the life of Christ. I’ve studied, and studied, and studied, and I’m still studying His life through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a wonderful teacher; He knows all about Jesus. I had to be taught that Jesus wasn’t only divine; He was also human.
People think of Paul today as Saint Paul; but, born again, we are all children or saints of God. If you’re holy today, you’re a saint in the eyes of God. I decided through the teaching of the Lord, and the Lord working with me through His Holy Spirit, that Paul was just a man, once the chief of sinners. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief (I Timothy 1:15). If God could make such a marvelous vessel out of a man who once had been the chief of sinners, He can do the same for you and me.
The Lord is bringing you on the paths He brought me. Jesus had to become real to me. I have beheld Him; I have looked upon His face, and I had never thought I would ever see Him while I was in the flesh. Then an angel began to talk to me, Ernest Angley, that little old farm boy who used to skip and hop behind the plow when Dad would be plowing, trying to land in his footsteps. Now I was leaping for other steps; and oh, they were so far apart it seemed, those long steps of Jesus. But as I moved on in and spent so much time with Him, and had fastings going forty days at a time, I found that the steps of Jesus grew shorter and shorter. I found that I could step in His steps just by making my normal steps, just as I grew up one day and found I could step in Dad’s steps.
The Lord had to move in with me. How did God move in with me? By my giving time to Him, so much time. I wanted to give more time to Him than I gave to people, for being with Him was more satisfying than being with people. I delighted to meet with Him; He was revealing Himself, making Himself so real. He was talking to me, telling me things to come, how He was going to use me, where He was going to send me. He let me know He would send me to the world—me, that little farm boy! But now I was in the six spiritual senses, and when He talked to me, I could accept anything He said.
Oh Bride of Christ, you’re coming into that place now. Don’t count yourself out, saith the Lord, count yourself in. He’s drawing you unto Himself, and all you have to do is run after Him. Don’t run after the world. Don’t run after people of the world. Don’t run after people in a lukewarm condition; run after Jesus. Run after His love, His power, His faith, and His greatness so you can do His wonderful works in this final hour.
Then Angel Was Gone
The Lord hath need of you; the Lord wants you to Himself, and He must have you to Himself. He’s bringing you as He brought me, only He’s bringing you faster. Oh, that the Lord would have brought me so fast! It was my wife, Angel, and I at first, and then Angel was gone. Now it was just me and the Lord. The Lord told me I would have to have both hands in His the rest of the journey. One hand, the right hand, always had been in His, and the left hand in Angel’s hand. Angel knew that; she knew she was second. She knew she couldn’t be first and didn’t want to be because it was the same with her; the Lord was first in her life and I was second. Now the Lord said that both hands must be in His the rest of the journey, and it would be a treacherous one, a dangerous one, a trying one. The mountains would be higher than ever before, which meant the valleys would be deeper, so I put both hands in His.
I didn’t have much heart at first to put both hands in His after He took Angel; it seemed my life went when she went. But that was my five physical senses reacting. The Lord knew I was in a million pieces. He knew I was beyond helping myself, that the valley was so deep it would be impossible for me to ever climb out of it alone. He had made a girl for me in perfection; He knew that. He knew He had made Angel special, knew I couldn’t go on living without her. He knew there was no life, that everything went with her, that I had gone into the physical senses; and so the Lord would come to me daily and draw me over into the spiritual senses.
I wanted to touch Angel just one more time. I wanted to feel her hand in mine. I wanted to caress her, to press my lips against hers again. I said to God, and when I look back on it, it astounds me yet today, “Lord, when I get to Heaven, if I run past you to Angel, you won’t mind, will you Lord? Lord, you’ll understand.” And all was peace. The Lord is so good; He understood how I felt. It wasn’t because I loved Him less, but I was dying for Angel.
The nightmares, the torture began—reaching over and finding the other side of the bed empty. Half of me was gone; how could I live? Finally I would drift off to sleep way in the morning hour. Then I would wake drenched in a cold sweat. I would change my pajamas sometimes five or six times in one night. I was living in those five physical senses. I’d been living in the six spiritual senses, but now the human part of me was really showing up, and for the moment the goal of taking Jesus to the world dimmed.
God Filled the Vacuum
Through my tears I couldn’t see like I had been seeing. But the Lord would take care of that. How would He do it? In living reality. It was so wonderful how real the Lord was to me! Later He came into my room—or maybe it was an angel, I don’t know which it was. Like a human being, He put His arm around me. Something happened then. I went back over into the six spiritual senses; I was flying on course again. Not that I wouldn’t be human anymore when it came to Angel; I’ll never get over her on this journey; there are not enough years to be spent. But the Lord filled a vacuum that had been like the Grand Canyon; it took God’s love. All the human beings who loved me pouring in their love at one time didn’t fill more than a tiny little place, but God flowed His love in like mighty rivers. He flowed Himself to me, and He gave me such understanding. Oh Bride of Christ, the Lord expects you to have understanding of what He wants of you in this hour.
The Lord took me back into my life. It was like a deep, deep canyon with high walls on each side. There was just a narrow path through the canyon and He lit it up; I was walking my life. It was a rare privilege. Only one time did He ever do that, and that was after Angel went away. I had so many thoughts, so many questions—I had never been so full of questions, and God knew it. He was patient with me, as I look back. Only God knew how to work with me, and He explained everything that I wanted to know. Why did He take her? Was it the exact moment He willed? He let me know that at our beautiful wedding, the shadow of death was there like the shadow of the Cross. It had all been planned. It had been planned for her to be with me for only so many years; it had been planned for her to come to Akron with me and help establish the work. She had done a fantastic job.
I’m telling you this today not because I intended to; God didn’t tell me He was going to move on me to do this, but He’s used it for you today to bring you out of your five physical senses as much as possible and take you into the spiritual senses even in deep sorrow, deep heartache, and deep hurt. As long as you stay in the physical senses, you won’t heal; you’ll make the wrong decisions trying to satisfy self with whatever. Some people turn to alcohol, others to drugs trying to find ease. They’re taking whatever they can to get rid of the pain. But I didn’t do that. I turned from self, and turned my sufferings over to Him.
I Lived for the Mission
After Angel died, God was all that I had left except for the congregation of people. And the awful part was for God to look upon me and know I didn’t want to live. I didn’t want God to see me like that; He had been so good to me, telling me the future, how I’d take this Gospel to the world. I had thought Angel would be with me. I had thought it would be the two of us. Now I knew I had to live for the people that God had brought together. You who were there at that time, that’s one thing that I lived for. Like a father who had lost the mother and was left with the children crying, I knew I had to live for your sakes, that I had to live no matter what it cost me.
I was down in the dust and somehow I had to get up. I wasn’t separating the five physical senses and the six spiritual senses like the Lord is giving it to you. He hadn’t yet taught me the ABC’s of it. Now He’s teaching it to you, and He has to move fast with you because the time is limited. You’ve got to give yourself wholly to the Lord, not just part of you. Some of you think you have given yourselves so wholly to the Lord, and I cry for you because you haven’t. It shows up in work you could be doing for the Lord that you’re not doing. The devil will try to block you in every way he can. All I can do is cry out to you, tell you to take reality in Jesus, tell you not to live in the five physical senses. You must live in the six spiritual senses, you must.
My heart is broken today when I think of your battles, when I think of any of you failing to make the crossing. You’re a part of my heart because you’re a part of God’s heart. He has given me much love and compassion for people. He has given me His divine love beyond human love for this people and for the partners in this great outreach.
God Must Be Real to You
Identify your physical senses. What people demand of you is through the physical senses and not through the spiritual senses. They can make you feel guilty because you’re putting God first. They may tell you that you don’t love them. You can say you do, but you love God more than anything else. I love God more than I love myself. I love God more than taking up time with other things when He wants me. I’m on call any moment of every day and night because I have come into the heart of God and He’s on call for my benefit twenty-four hours around the clock.
I expect the Lord to be on call any time I cry for myself or someone else. Of course, I do most of the crying for others. The Lord looks out for me, takes care of me, and I thank God because I’m so busy doing His work. He’ll look out more and more for you as you do His work. Be in His love, power, strength, peace, and joy. His power is yours; be available to be used, a righteous person. Let Him mold you in the potter’s house again and again, making you a holy vessel. Fill me and I will serve.
When the Lord calls on you, don’t turn Him down. He never turns you away, how can you turn Him away? You must become knowledgeable in all the ways of the Lord and in all the ways of the devil so that you can defeat the devil all the time, not just part-time. You can defeat the devil and you can help defeat him for others because you’ll see what he is doing. You’ll see how the devil is getting to a child of God through the spirit of discouragement, and you can lend encouragement from the six spiritual senses. With all patience you’ll be able to take time to touch that person because Jesus is so real and you remember He always takes time for you.
The Woman at the Well
I think of Jesus sitting at the well, weary from His journey, showing He was human. Then cometh he [Jesus] to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water (John 4:5-7).
Jesus, tired and weary, was glad to be alone for a little with the Father, to whisper something to the Father. But then came a lowly woman. She was not only a Samaritan, she was degraded in sin, vile sin; but Jesus was not too tired, too weary to minister to her. The King of Glory was by the well and He said, Woman, give me to drink (John 4:7). She was startled; He had her attention. She’d never had a kind word from a Jewish person before.
John 4:9, Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him [Jesus], How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus was not too weary to help that one lost lamb, and that’s the way He feels about all the little lost lambs today. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water…Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:10,13,14).
Look what talking to one woman did: The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world (John 4:28-30,39-42). Imagine, a woman of the streets, a woman like she was—so degraded—and yet she made Jesus real to people. Many believed through her testimony.
Jesus was real to the Samaritan woman, real as the Messiah. She said, Come see a man…Is not this the Christ? This is the one we’ve been looking for. Why, He told me everything that I’ve ever done, and yet He loves me; He forgave me! He is the one; He is my salvation, and I have received Him. He is the Christ; He is the Messiah!
She was changed, transformed—the Spirit of God was working through her, and the work of the Holy Spirit, the power of God transformed others. God’s power poured upon the Jews at first and then it began to pour upon the Gentiles. Praise God forevermore!
This Is Your Hour of Living Reality
This is your hour, your hour of closeness with God. This is your hour of living reality in God. This is your hour, and the Lord is saying you shall receive power, and more and more power. And He’s saying to you this is more power from on High. You will need this on tomorrow. The Spirit, the power falls into every heart that will accept it. But how alert are you? Are you yawning and thinking you haven’t had much sleep? The power of the Holy Spirit means life to you; it means life to many of your loved ones, life to people who are on the other side of the oceans. The Lord is making such a little world for us, and He’s bringing the nations to us through His love.
I came into the church recently about 4:30p.m. and as I walked backstage there wasn’t enough light to see the door that I needed to go through. But all of a sudden in a vision I was walking right into Africa; it lit up before me. I could see the green trees, no dead trees, and I could see the miracle power.
The Lord is bringing African nations right to our door. They’re not afar off anymore. When you pray, don’t think of praying for people afar off; they’ve been brought nigh to us through the love of God, through the love in our hearts—our neighbors. They are close to us and we are reaching them with the message.
God is lifting up our voice through television and radio. God lifted up this servant’s voice today, and it’s hard to tell how many millions heard it in different parts of the world. This voice is made up of your voice, also, because you’re sponsoring the broadcasts. This voice is not mine anyway really; it belongs to God, and it’s entirely His when I come on this platform. The Lord uses my voice; He uses my tongue as His very own. I turn my mind over to Him and He gives me things that I’ve never thought of in my whole life, and never would have thought of.
The Lord wants to work with you. God is here and He’s making Himself all the living reality He can to you, every day, every hour now. When you pick up your Bible, pick it up in reality knowing you’re picking up Jesus. The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (John 1:14). To hold that Bible to your bosom is to hold Jesus.
Holy Lord God Almighty! This is real, real, real; the Holy Spirit is seeking to make this all living reality to you. The Lord is spreading a table for you of love, power, and all His wonderful promises.
Do You Have Jesus?
Behold, the Bride! Behold the Bride of Christ! No more nights of darkness. It’s all over. She is a winner.
Look up, no matter what you’re going through. Live pure, clean, holy before God and never turn back. Ever onward He is drawing you. If you don’t have Jesus, come to Him now. Come while you yet have time. When God rises up without His love, when God takes off His robe of love and puts on the robe of judgment, unimaginable terror and devastation will fall on the earth. The tormentors of God’s people are about to undergo horrors beyond the mind as God rains down judgment. Where will you be?
If you need to get right with the Lord, pray this prayer with me now: Oh, God, I don’t want to go to hell. Save my soul! I’m so sorry that I sinned against you; but I have come home, and I’m going to serve you, Lord, the rest of my life. I believe that Jesus died for me, and I will live for Him. I believe the blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins, all of my sins. Come on in, Jesus! Come into my heart!
If you meant that prayer you can now say, Hallelujah, He has come! Hallelujah, He is my Savior, my Redeemer!
God Is the Healer
You who are sick and afflicted, let me pray with you. My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). My God shall supply all of your needs, and you have a great need for healing. Through the atonement of Jesus Christ, the two-fold atonement, the miracle supply is yours, the miracle supply for the children of God. All things are supplied by Him. Tell the Lord you’ll be His witness, and give Him all the glory.
You who have been an invalid for years: There is a miracle for you. You may be paralyzed all over, but there is a miracle for you that will bring life into that helpless body. Let the Lord know you want to be a part of Him in this last hour, that it doesn’t matter about the persecutions. You just want to be His witness. Lord: There are so many hopeless, helpless ones, so many who need your touch today, the miraculous touch of the Lord right now. Oh Lord, place your miracle hands on blinded eyes, touch the deaf ears, the crippled ones, re-create parts of bodies that must be re-created. Heal the people of AIDS, of all manner of sickness and disease. Heal! in the holy blood name of Jesus. Heal! in the all-powerful name of Jesus of Nazareth.
The miracle, healing power is flowing. Let that miracle power as well as the healing power go into every part of you. Let the Lord make you whole and give Him all the honor and glory. Praise Him daily and get completely well. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8). Without receiving the baptism in the Holy Ghost you will never be able to give God all the praise, honor and glory that He deserves.
