The Right Way to Pray
by Ernest Angley
February 2015
Many of God’s people do not pray the right way; but in this final hour, the Bride must know how to pray the Bible way so she can receive the help she needs. Praying the Bible way means praying through the divine blood and through the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught the people the right way to pray saying, After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name (Matthew 6:9). Thus saith the Lord, you have to pray in the will of God. Only then will you not doubt Him. You also have to know that you are His child—that you have been born again and made a new creation in Christ Jesus.
Jesus went on to say, Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). The will of God will be done on Earth during the 1000-year Perfect Age which will follow the Battle of Armageddon. Until that time, you must pray as Jesus always did—in the divine will of God, never in His permissible will. Jesus said, Not my will, but thine, be done (Luke 22:42). You must let that become a part of your spirit. I pray for people in the will of God, and that is the reason I get results.
Give us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:11). Notice that Jesus used the word “give.” The Lord does not want us to beg for our bread; and when you do, you delay God’s answer for you…and some delay it so long that they never get it. The divine blood connects you to Heaven, but you are not connected when you beg.
Jesus taught that we can be sons and daughters of God through His blood. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12). That means we have all the privileges that Jesus had when He was here because we have been made joint-heirs with Him in the Father’s Kingdom. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16,17). Parents who really love their children would never want them to be beggars, and the Lord does not want His children to be beggars either.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (Matthew 6:12,13). Temptation is not a sin until you give over to it. That is why we must want God to be with us when we are being tempted—so we will not fail Him.
Jesus ended that great prayer with, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen (Matthew 6:13). In that verse, Jesus was talking about the greatness of God and telling us to give all the glory to Him. Bible prayer should be ninety-nine percent praise because the Lord loves to be praised. I praise the Lord so much, and I sing choruses of praise just as the Bible says we should. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19). When you are sick, the best cure is to praise the Lord for the miracle or healing you know will come. Praise Him for His promises that say He will make you well.
Do Not Be a Pharisee
When some people know they will have to pray in public, they plan what they are going to say; but that kind of prayer does not come from the heart, so God is not in it. If you will yield to the Holy Spirit, you won’t have to think ahead of time about what you are going to say.
Other people want to be heard, so they pray long prayers like the Pharisees and Sadducees did; but the Lord warned people more than once not to do that. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:20). And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly (Matthew 6:5,6).
Jesus never prayed a long prayer full of ego, and He never taught the disciples to pray that way either. Jesus let the Pharisees and Sadducees know what He thought of them and the kind of prayers they prayed. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell (Matthew 23:27,33)?
People will get more out of hearing short prayers that do not glorify self or have any ego in them. I don’t pray long prayers that I want people to hear; I pray my long prayers before I step onto the platform, tarrying before the Lord without any ego and receiving more and more from Him. I am always prayed up and have a fresh anointing for every one of my services, and that is why I am able to help so many people throughout the world. The anointing of God breaks all yokes and bondages; that is what prayer is about. And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing (Isaiah 10:27).
How do you pray? If you are at a special dinner and someone calls on you to say a prayer over the food, do you pray until the food gets cold? If so, you are not “hot” before the Lord. He said, I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth (Revelation 3:15,16). The Lord will spew you out if you pray the wrong kind of prayers.
Never try to preach to people or even up the score with certain ones in a public prayer; that is out of order. When you are praying before a congregation, it is not the time to get after people. Prayer is supposed to glorify the God of Heaven, and Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost do a great job of that. People who don’t pray like God wants them to pray will not get their prayers answered. God said, Come now, and let us reason together (Isaiah 1:18); and you reason with God in your prayer closet, not in public.
Ask and Receive
The Bible says, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7). When you pray, you are talking to God; and I say again, don’t beg. Jesus said we should simply ask, seek and knock—those are the three words for successful prayer, and God rewards them.
How should you ask?—in the same spirit of humility that Jesus had and in the divine love and faith that He brought. Jesus said to just knock, and God’s door to the things you need would be opened to you. My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Because of prayer, we can reach Heaven and receive the things we need on this journey. The Bible says, The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16).
If you are not getting many of your prayers answered today, then there is something wrong down here because everything is always all right in Heaven. You need to study how to pray God’s way, and always remember that you are praying to the Father in Heaven. He knows all things, and He knows what you need even before you ask. For your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him (Matthew 6:8). But God still wants you to ask, believe and praise Him for the answer.
The Bible says we are to be anxious for nothing. Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (Philippians 4:6). You should never be anxious or worried about things because God will supply your needs and His.
The Lord has a plan for each life; but you can only find that plan through praying, fasting and living in the Word. Many people want the Lord to hand everything to them on a silver platter, but people like that are not in shape to receive what they are expecting. You need to check yourself and say, “Lord, am I praying right?” The Lord told me that prayer must come from the heart, and God will hear every word you pray if you pray right.
Tithing Brings Blessings
You must tithe and give to God to get your prayers answered, but some of you don’t; and God calls you a robber. Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings (Malachi 3:8). The Bible says ten percent of your income is holy unto the Lord. The tenth shall be holy unto the LORD (Leviticus 27:32).
Some of you do not tithe, yet you still think you will make the one flight out. The Lord is coming after a spotless Bride. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27). God has let me know that if you rob Him, you have plenty of spots and wrinkles; and you will be left behind.
The Lord said He would open the windows of Heaven to those who tithe and give to Him. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10). Those blessings pour out on Earth, not in Heaven; but you close those windows when you disobey God.
Some people claim to tithe; but they don’t, and they are really hypocrites. God declared that when you fail to tithe and give to the One who blesses and loves you so much, you are like a man trying to fill up a sack with holes. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways (Haggai 1:6,7). Some of you cannot get out of debt; you can’t get anywhere with God, and so many things in your life go wrong because you are out of God’s will. You say you want the will of God, but you really don’t; and you are deceiving yourself.
I knew a man who for a long time did not agree with tithing; and even though he thought people should pay their honest debts, he could not pay his. However, when he started tithing, he got out of debt in no time—that is what God can do. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct [all] thy paths (Proverbs 3:5,6).
God reveals so much about people to me because the gift of discerning is in my life. Whatever is in them comes out in their voice, and God even lets me look on the inside of them. When I shake hands with a person, God can let me see into that person’s soul; and if the cross does not light up in there, the person is not saved.
When people come into my prayer line, their diseases will come out in their speech; but they don’t realize that their disobediences and sins will come out, too. That is why I know that people claim to be saved when they are not and to have the Holy Ghost when they don’t.
Receive the Real Holy Spirit
If someone does not have the evidence of speaking with other tongues, then he is deceiving himself if he says he has the real Holy Ghost. On the Day of Pentecost, the Bible says the disciples were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4). Notice that they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance. That refers to the Holy Spirit, not the human spirit.
People who say they can speak in tongues any time they want to are deceived because that is not of God; it is self. The Lord told me that if they continue to do that, devils will take over; and they can blaspheme.
Prior to the Day of Pentecost, Jesus had told the disciples that they would have to tarry until they received the tongue of fire. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them (Acts 2:1-3). Then they were filled with the Holy Ghost.
Today, many so-called Pentecostals deny speaking in tongues, and they claim that I am preaching false doctrine; but they will be the ones who are left when Jesus comes. Others deceive people by teaching them to speak in tongues at will and prophesy at will.
Some people have never heard of the Holy Ghost. Paul told a group of Christians, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied (Acts 19:2-6).
If you have never heard about the Holy Ghost, you need to read my book, Things You Need to Know about the Holy Ghost. In that God-given book, the Lord introduces you to the Spirit in a beautiful way; and if you will study it, you will learn so much about how the Holy Ghost works and about the power He gives us to make us overcomers like Jesus was.
God Is Greater
Elijah prayed a little prayer before a crowd of Baal worshippers, and God showed His power in a mighty way. King Ahab had brought Baal worship in among God’s people when he married Jezebel, and Elijah was so discouraged with those who had chosen to follow Baal. And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken (I Kings 18:21-24).
Elijah was forcing the people to choose between God and Baal. The people who worshipped Baal called on their god first. They jumped on the altar, cried aloud and cut themselves until the sun went down. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked (I Kings 18:27). However, the people just screamed louder.
Elijah finally told the people to stop, and then he prepared his sacrifice. First, he had a trench dug around the sacrifice, and then he filled it with many barrels of water. When the sacrifice was ready, Elijah prayed a little prayer of sixty-three words from his heart; and fire fell from Heaven. And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God (I Kings 18:36-39). After that, many of the people fell down and declared God was God. The Lord wanted me to bring that little prayer before you because it proves there is power in prayer.
God Gives Life
God sent the great prophet Isaiah to tell King Hezekiah to set his house in order because he was going to die. Hezekiah was a good king; so when he heard what Isaiah had said, he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore (Isaiah 38:2,3). The Lord would have denied that Hezekiah had a perfect heart if it was not true; and because He could not turn Hezekiah’s perfect heart away, He told Isaiah, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years (Isaiah 38:5). A simple prayer can prolong life.
Prayer prolonged my life when I was in a dying condition at twenty-three. If I ate, I felt like I was dying; and if I didn’t eat, I was starving to death. My body went down to about a skeleton, and my eyes were sunken back into my head; and the time came when I realized I had just a few more days to live. I didn’t know why God would call me to preach and then let me die at such a young age.
Then one night, Jesus came and healed my whole body. When I talk about it, I can feel Him coming toward me all over again. He told me that night that I would have His healing ministry, and that was His way of telling me I was going to live. I didn’t have any doubt or fear, and I wanted to shout to everyone that I was going to live!
I had never asked the Lord for the healing ministry, and I never thought of asking Him for even one of the nine gifts of the Spirit. I never counted myself worthy to have such things, and I am still so humbled about it today. The more God moves, the more humble I become; and I just want to kneel down and bury my face on the floor.
People who live in the will of God will go to Heaven when God is ready for them to go. No matter how often the devil tries to kill them, God can save them and keep them from dying until it is their time to go. Then all Heaven will shout and welcome them into Glory. People who do not live in God’s will are subject to die at any time from a heart attack, a stroke, some deadly disease or an accident.
I despise death, and the Lord said that death will be the last enemy to be destroyed. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death (I Corinthians 15:26). I will be glad when death is destroyed and has no more power over us.
Study How Jesus Prayed
When you read through the four Gospels, you will find that Jesus prayed so much; but He did not do His praying before people. He would go into the mountains or to the Garden of Gethsemane and pray all night long; so when He met people, He was always ready to help them.
Jesus did not pray a long prayer when He raised Lazarus from the dead. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always (John 11:41,42). First, Jesus glorified the Father, and He knew that the Father always heard Him. You should close your prayers by saying, “Father, you always hear me”; but don’t say that unless you believe it in your heart.
Jesus wanted the people to know why He was praying that short prayer; so He said, But because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me (John 11:42). Then Jesus cried, Lazarus, come forth (John 11:43); and he did come forth.
Jesus prayed only a short prayer when He raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead. And he [Jesus] took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment (Mark 5:41,42).
Seek God with Humility
Some people pray to glorify self, but you can never do that and expect your prayers to get through to God. I never pray to glorify myself, and I never take any of God’s glory. One fear I have always had is that people would give me glory for some of the miracles that take place. That is why I stress wherever I go that I am not the healer; the Lord is the healer, and I am just His witness. I want to have His faith, His love and His divinity; and I always want to meet Him with those things. Jesus brought divinity, and it is within our reach if only we will reach for it.
God taught me that faith can grow, and it must if you want to please God. The Bible tells us to earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints (Jude 1:3). I contended for that faith, and I got it; but I had to pay a great price for it, and so will you. The devil was determined to defeat me, but the Lord kept bringing Job before me. I told God, “I will not give up no matter what happens to me. I will not stop seeking for that faith until I receive it.”
I suffered much when the Lord gave me His gift of discerning of spirits. It seemed as if all hell boiled over, but God gave me the victory. Then I was able to look into the souls of demon-possessed people and see the devils that bound them. When I first began praying for God to bring them out, it was like I had cords tied to them; and I could sense them scratching the insides of the people as I pulled them out. But now, it is different—they will come out all at once, and the Lord will number them.
When I studied demonology, I had to spend many hours in prayer and fasting; but I was dining on the Word. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). Members of the bridal company today will receive much from God, but they will have to fast to be able to use the things God gives them.
Old Testament Prayer
Study how some of the characters in the Old Testament prayed. Queen Esther was a type of the Bride of Christ, and God used her to save her people through her prayers and fasting. The king had declared that the Jews would be killed; and because Esther was Jewish, her uncle knew she had to do something, so he sent her word saying, If thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this (Esther 4:14)?
Esther knew she would have to go in before the king, but she also knew the law—that it meant death if she went in before the king without being summoned and did not receive his favor. However, she was willing to do whatever it took. Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish (Esther 4:15,16).
Esther’s prayer was not great or long, but she wanted God’s will. We have to pray in God’s will, too, and be able to say, “If I die, I die.” God did answer Esther’s prayers, and she did receive the king’s favor; and ultimately, her people were saved.
When God was about to destroy everybody on Earth, Noah prayed and found grace. Then God gave him the marvelous plan of building the ark that would save his whole household. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee (Genesis 6:13,14,17-19). I am sure Noah was praising God and rejoicing over that plan.
Today, we have an even greater plan—the plan of redemption that will last for eternity. For 120 years, Noah built the ark and preached, but nobody wanted to be saved; however, Noah kept on talking to the Lord. Some of you will get discouraged if the Lord does not do what you want Him to in a couple of days.
Power to Stand
Joseph’s own brothers sold him as a slave, but Joseph stayed in contact with the Lord; and God used him to save his people from a great famine—prayer did it.
After many years had passed, Joseph’s brothers went to Egypt in search of food, not knowing that they would meet him there. After all Joseph had been through, he still loved his brothers; and he revealed himself to them saying, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance (Genesis 45:4-7). Joseph had no bitterness in his heart, only a spirit of forgiveness just like the one Jesus had when He walked among men.
The strength of prayer gave Moses the power to use the rod of truth and bring forth the miracles of God. Moses lifted up that rod, and plagues rained down on Egypt. Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt (Exodus 7:20,21).
Moses lifted up that rod, and the Red Sea parted. But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea…And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left (Exodus 14:16,21,22). There is power in prayer, but many people never realize it.
Take Time with God
Always take time to pray. My mother, dad and two older sisters were good examples of that; and we had great miracles in our family. Some of our own relatives would have died without the prayers and the fastings of my family. My people started their day with prayer, and they ended it with prayer—our home was a home of prayer. In the evening, we would all gather together, and Dad would read a few verses of scripture; and then it was time to pray.
I love prayer; I never want to be without it. God’s great grace gave that privilege to us, and I know His grace is sufficient for whatever I need. When you get in touch with me, I take your troubles to the Lord. He said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls (Matthew 11:28,29). God fulfills His promises, but you must never make room for doubt.
When you pray the right way, the Holy Ghost makes intercession for you. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:26,27).
Jesus makes intercession for you, too. It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us (Romans 8:34). With two persons in the Trinity of the Godhead making intercession for those who have divine blood in their soul, live a sinless life and walk in the will of God, it is easy to get a prayer through.
Call God Any Time
I never think about it being hard to reach God because He says He walks inside of His people. As God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people (II Corinthians 6:16). Paul said, I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me (Galatians 2:20). Children of God have the whole Godhead living inside of them, and there is no limit to what the soul can hold. It can hold all of Heaven because it came from God, but it has to be a praying soul.
The power of prayer is essential in every child of God’s life, and no one can remain saved without it. When you let up on your prayer life, you will hinder God’s stream of the strength and power of His glory that He is sending down to you from Heaven. You have to take time with the Lord and talk to Him, or you will not have the fellowship with Him that you should. You may tell people that you love the Lord, yet it is a burden for you to talk to Him. Jesus never found it to be a burden; He loved talking to the Father, and He spent many nights talking to Him. How many times have you spent all night talking to the Father in the name of Jesus?
Unfortunately, many prayers never get beyond the sound of the human voice because they are not prayed right. If you do not pray through the divine blood, then you are praying through your own human faith and love; and such prayers are very weak and not subject to reach the throne of grace.
When you use the divine blood, you can call Jesus any time. The Bible says, But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13). We have been made nigh to the throne through the divine blood, yet many people will kneel down to pray and think of God as being way off somewhere. It is no wonder that prayer is not interesting or exciting to them. Many people are not rewarded for talking to God because they never really talk to Him; they only talk to the walls without believing that anybody is listening.
We Must Forgive
The Bible tells us that we must forgive others. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you (Ephesians 4:32). Jesus came to forgive all people, and He never carried grudges. Nevertheless, many people do; and if they fail to get rid of them, the devil will rob them of the blessings of God.
It is so simple for me to forgive people; I just turn my enemies over to God. He said, Vengeance is mine; I will repay (Romans 12:19); and that is sufficient for me. Why should I try to do anything about my enemies when I can let God take over?
We want God’s forgiveness when we make a mistake; but Jesus said that we also have to forgive, or we will not receive God’s smile of forgiveness. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses (Matthew 6:14,15).
Jesus goes on to say that we are not to judge people. Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again (Matthew 7:1,2). The Bible says we will know people by their fruits. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit (Matthew 7:16,17). Many people who claim to have salvation have no good fruit.
People are not saved unless they have divine blood in their soul. When Jesus was born, He had divine blood in His veins, not human blood; but we were born with human blood that was contaminated by sin. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me (Psalm 51:5). When Jesus saves us, He makes us clean and holy and gives us divine blood in our souls. Then our souls are sealed with the blood by the Holy Spirit Himself, and it is magnificent to have that great blood seal.
Prayer Is Fellowship with God
Some people do not put the value on prayer that they should, so the Lord has to let troubles and calamities come to drive them into the prayer chamber. Parents want their children to come to them because their children love them, and the Lord wants us to come and talk to Him for the same reason. He does not want us to wait until we or someone we love has a great need or is in danger; He wants us to love having closeness with Him through the blood. Jesus came because man walked in darkness and did not have that kind of fellowship; but now, we can walk hand in hand with Jesus and talk with Him just as one person talks to another.
Real prayer is not using your imagination or reading a cold prayer to God. My mom and dad would have thought I was crazy if I had gone to them and started reading my request, and God does not want us to do that to Him either. I would never think about reading a prayer to the Lord. I go happily in before Him, and I am very frank with Him. You do not have to be afraid of the Lord when you know He loves you. I enjoy the Lord; and I have nothing but godly fear toward Him, which is deep respect.
One day, children of God will live in Heaven with Him; so we are not to be strangers to the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost or how will we enjoy Heaven? He wants us to have close fellowship with Him now and to know that He is listening. The Bible says, The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry (Psalm 34:15). God’s ears are open to your cry if you are holy before Him.
Enjoy the Lord
I have more confidence in my prayers than I do in anybody else’s because I know how I live. I know I am pure, clean and holy before God. You too should have more faith in your own prayers than you do in anybody else’s if you know you are living right and on speaking terms with the Lord. Then you will know He is right there with you to help you.
It is marvelous to talk to the Lord when you know you are living in Christ Jesus, wearing the love bridle, and there is no condemnation between you and Him. Then you will know He loves you and that you can trust Him with any of your secrets. If your hands are in the hands of the Lord, why would you not enjoy the fellowship of the heavenly Father—those times when you are talking to Him and He is talking to you? I love to talk to God at all hours; and the Lord can wake me up whenever He wants to because when the Lord wants to talk, it is time to listen and talk to Him.
People may say that you are not right with God and tell all kinds of lies about you to try to destroy you because they hate you, but the Psalmist said that God will spread a table for us in the presence of our enemies. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies (Psalm 23:5). I know that at times, we would like God to move our enemies to another country; but it is real vengeance when our enemies can see that the Lord is spreading a table for us while they are eating briars. We are feasting on milk and honey and all that has come down from Heaven while they cry, “Fanaticism!”
Keep Your Eyes on Jesus
When you fail in your prayer life, you are in grave danger. Simon Peter failed in his prayer life, so he used human faith at a time when he should have used divine faith. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus (Matthew 14:25-29).
Notice that Peter actually walked on the water. That was miraculous! But when Peter took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the big waves rolling toward him, he started to sink. Then he cried, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt (Matthew 14:30,31)?
The right kind of prayer is one in which you can call on the Lord and know He is right there. Simon knew Jesus was there, so he immediately cried out to Him; and Jesus saved him. That is how quickly you can get a prayer answered. At that time, Peter had not sinned against God; he just lacked divine faith. Some of us would have thought, “I walked on the water, so I must have all the faith in the world.” That is not necessarily so because if you later had started to sink, that would have meant there was a weakness there; and then Jesus would have said to you as He did to Peter, “O ye of little faith.”
Lack of Prayer Is Dangerous
You have to be in shape to talk to the Lord the right way. The night the soldiers came for Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, the disciples should have been in shape to help Jesus; but they had not kept up with their prayers to the Father like He had taught them. Instead, they thought, “We don’t have to worry because Jesus takes our burdens. He knows everything, and He has all power. He casts out devils, and He heals us if we get sick.”
That night, Jesus had asked the disciples to pray with Him, but they did not feel the need of staying awake and doing that; and they did not realize what was facing them. And he [Jesus] cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:40,41).
At one time, Peter had been so close to Jesus. If he had stayed awake in the garden that night, he would not have denied Jesus; but Peter did not stay awake, and he failed. Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly (Matthew 26:69-75). Just think about how awful Peter must have felt when he heard that cock crow.
The Power of Prayer
As kids, many of us got in a habit of reciting a little bedtime prayer that we had learned; but now, I no longer recite my prayers. I pray and talk to God, calling up Heaven and saying, “Here I am again, Lord, to rejoice, praise and glorify your name because you are so good.” At other times, I may be praying for others, especially those throughout the world who have nobody to pray for them. Many people say they pray, but they never reach God; so their prayers are as powerless as the weak people who are praying them.
You have to know that there is power in prayer and claim ownership with God and His family. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty (II Corinthians 6:17,18).
You must realize that if you are going to have power in prayer, you have to know in whom you have believed. Paul said, For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day (II Timothy 1:12). You must take up your cross and deny everything to follow Jesus. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me (Matthew 16:24). When you are following in the footsteps of Jesus, you will pray and fast like Jesus did; and you will delight in the Word and in all the Father has said.
Jesus told the disciples, If ye abide in me, and my words [my promises] abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you (John 15:7). When you pray with power from On High, you will ask according to the will of God because Jesus and the Holy Ghost will guide you into all truth, into God’s will and into what to ask for. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13).
The Spirit of truth referred to in that verse is the Holy Spirit; and with Him, you can do greater works. Jesus said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12). You will be able to pray through the blood and through the Spirit of God with power from On High.
Claim Power from On High
Down through the years, most people and even most Christians have been robbed of the power of prayer; and their prayers have not been answered. But you must know that in this final hour, the Lord is ready to and wants to answer your prayers. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it (John 14:14).
When Jesus was here, He prayed for the disciples and for those of us who would come after them. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me (John 17:20,21).
If you are one with the Lord, why should you have a powerless prayer life; and why do you depend on others to get your answers for you? Your prayers should be filled with the greatness of God, and you should get answers. Don’t you know in whom you have believed and that the Lord loves you?
To pray the right way does not mean using vain repetitions like the heathen do; you ask in the faith and love of Heaven, and you pray through the blood. That is what I have done, and it works. That is why I can dart a prayer and a blind person receives sight; a crippled person is made to walk, and people are healed of cancer, diabetes and all manner of sicknesses and diseases. Abraham darted a prayer, and a whole family was healed. So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children (Genesis 20:17).
All the power you need comes through real Bible prayer, and all the answers you need are in the Word; but it takes Bible prayer for those promises to operate for you. That is why you must please God; but without faith, it is impossible to do that. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). You must know that God is your heavenly Father, that He loves and cares for you and that He is a rewarder of those who pray the Bible way. Then you will receive.
I pray the Bible way, and people all over the world are getting results. This ministry receives testimonies every week about what God is doing. Our website reaches into many different nations, and I am there to pray prayers of Bible power for people any time of the night or day.
A Salvation Prayer
There is much facing us in this final hour, and you have to stay awake in the Lord. You dare not go to bed one more night without being prayed up no matter how tired you are. You must make sure there is nothing between you and your Lord. You may ask, “How long will it take me to do that?” That all depends on how stubborn and rebellious you are. It does not take the Lord a long time to help us, but it takes some of us a long time to get into a place where He can.
If you are not in that place today, you need to get there. If you are unsaved, lift your hand and ask for salvation. You do not have to beg God to save you; He said if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9). Are you ready to be cleansed? If so, you can find God right now. Then you can pray the Bible way and have power with God.
Oh, God, I am lost and on my road to hell. Please, God, save my soul! Take away this load of sin. You said if I would repent, you would forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness; so with godly sorrow and with tears I say, “Forgive me, Lord.” I believe the blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in, Jesus. If you meant that prayer, you can say, Hallelujah! Jesus is mine. Hallelujah! I am saved. I have found the light, and I will never go back into the night.
Now, start praying the Bible way, and you will get answers to your prayers because the Word of God has promised it; and God keeps His promises. Then go on and get the Holy Ghost because only through that power from On High will you be changed when Jesus comes. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (I Corinthians 15:51,52). Many preachers have claimed that the change spoken of here is death, but the Lord said that is not so. He said that before death will even have a chance to touch Holy Ghost-filled children of God at that time, they will be changed and caught away with the Lord.
A Healing Prayer
If you are sick and afflicted, the Bible says, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 18:19). You are one, and I am two, but I am not the healer; Jesus is the healer. God’s divine gifts are in my life through much prayer, fasting and living in the holiness and righteousness of God; and the Lord is pouring out His Spirit, so get ready for your miracle.
Lord, I bring the sick and afflicted to you. Thousands have been healed of AIDS and other deadly diseases, and even whole families have been delivered from AIDS while this servant of God has prayed and agreed with them. Heal! in the blood-name of Jesus. Heal! in the all-powerful name of Jesus. Cast those diseases from them and make them well for your honor and your glory; and you, Lord, will get all the praise. Amen.
Now, you must believe. Jesus said, Only believe (Mark 5:36). If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23). Write and tell me what happened to you today because I love to rejoice with people when they receive from the Lord.
Jesus came and connected us to the throne of God, and we can call God on His holy throne and Jesus any time. We are sons and daughters of God just as Christ is; so we should feel free to say at the close of every prayer, “Father, you always hear me.”
