The Excellency Of The Power Is Of God
by Ernest Angley
December 2017
“Excellency” is an outstanding or very valuable feature or quality, and the excellency of the power that works in us as children of God is not of us but of God. It is a valuable treasure in our human, earthen vessels that causes us to excel and go beyond. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us (II Corinthians 4:7).
The natural man has no power when it comes to the things of God. The virtue and glory in our lives are not because of who we are but because of who dwells in us. As God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people (II Corinthians 6:16). God is inside of us as well as outside of us. How can He be inside?—because the soul comes from God, so it is not of the Earth; and a soul can never die.
When we have God’s treasure in our earthen vessels, God can use us to work His power through just like He did Paul; and Paul knew that the excellency of the power in him was of God and not of himself. Because of that, God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them (Acts 19:11,12).
The Lord directed me to use that same method of healing in this ministry, too. I pray over thousands of little cloths that we call blest cloths; and through them, people are receiving unbelievable miracles all over the world. The Lord said He would do such a great work in the latter days that when people heard about it, they wouldn’t believe it. For I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you (Habakkuk 1:5). God is doing that today.
No Power within Yourself
When you think that the excellency of the power working in you is of yourself, you are headed for trouble. Certain Jews who didn’t have the treasure, Jesus, in their earthen vessels found this out. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists [those who attempted to cast out devils], took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified (Acts 19:13,15-17). The devil won that one because those men were not really of God, and man’s power is very limited. The Bible tells us, O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps (Jeremiah 10:23).
People must know that without God, they are nothing and can do nothing of any eternal, lasting value. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing (John 15:5).
It is God who causes us to triumph in Christ. Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place (II Corinthians 2:14). All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in Christ, and He makes those things known to us. To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).
Never Depend on Self
The natural man will never enable you to excel in the Lord; only Christ living within can do that. When He is truly there, you should be able to say as Paul did, I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me (Galatians 2:20). If you have come out of deep sin, you know it wasn’t your power that changed you but God’s.
You cannot depend on yourself and your own feelings, or you will carry the wrong burdens. You will think God is asking too much of you, and you will become worn-out and discouraged. You have to learn to turn your problems over to Jesus and let Him carry your heavy loads. He said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).
You have to let Jesus carry your heavy loads and be confident knowing that God’s grace is sufficient for you. My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness (II Corinthians 12:9). Get your mind off of yourself and see Jesus within.
Overcome like Jesus
If your earthen vessel is weak, yield to the treasure within; and you will excel mightily in the Lord. Jesus came to Earth and became human just like us, so we can live by the power of God just like He did. We can do everything He did when He was here because He brought divine power down from Heaven with Him. For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you (II Corinthians 13:4).
Everything you need is on the Lord’s table and within your reach; but you can’t partake of what is on that table unless you have the Holy Ghost baptism and are full of God’s love, faith and peace. The Holy Ghost is power from On High; and because of the excellency of that power, we can be more than conquerors. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him [Jesus] that loved us (Romans 8:37).
Being more than a conqueror means that you can conquer all the devils that come against you and still have plenty of power left to help deliver others from the devils that come against them. You never have to be afraid of the devil when God has changed your life into one of faith, love and glorious power. Use Heaven’s greatest weapon, the divine blood, and spray the devil with it. The Lord told me it burns the devil and his demons like fire burns our skin, and they can’t take it.
Paul Had God’s Power
God did mighty things through the vessel called Paul, a man who said that he had been the chief of sinners. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief (I Timothy 1:15). The Lord used Paul to bring me to where I am in the Lord today. He would show me again and again how He took one of the greatest sinners and made him to be one of the greatest apostles. Then I could use divine faith for whatever God wanted me to do.
Paul knew he had been called of God. But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood (Galatians 1:15,16). Paul didn’t exchange views or opinions with anyone but the Lord who had called him.
After Paul was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost, God used him to preach and perform miracles. Even so, Paul knew that he was just an earthen vessel and that the excellency of the power that worked in his life was of God. Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily (Colossians 1:29).
Paul never took any glory for himself; he gave it all to God. But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth (II Corinthians 10:17,18). I give all the glory to the Lord for everything He does, and you must do the same thing.
There were many times when Paul felt the strain of his persecutions and trials, but he trusted in the power within. For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus (II Corinthians 7:5,6). Because you are just human, you, too, may feel you have no rest at times; but God will see you through.
Notice that Paul said he had fear within, but he didn’t hold on to that fear. He knew he had the love of God, and that divine love will cast out all fear. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear (I John 4:18).
Have No Confidence in the Flesh
We will face things in this life that may make our earthen vessels shrink; so, through faith, we need to get out of self and yield to God. We can have no confidence in the flesh when it comes to doing spiritual things. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh (Philippians 3:3).
The Bible tells us that without the Lord and His divine love, we are nothing. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [love], I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing (I Corinthians 13:1,2).
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life (John 6:63). It is the Spirit who quickens us, not the flesh; so you can never boast in yourself. Paul said, Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith (Romans 3:27).
God cannot use many people today because they think they are above doing His work. Paul said, For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty (I Corinthians 1:26,27).
Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a ruler of Israel, and he was one to be looked up to in the eyes of the world; but Jesus told him, That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (John 3:6).
No matter who you are or what position you hold, you will never understand the excellency of God’s power unless you have that treasure, Jesus, within. Jesus said, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). The majority of people on Earth today have never been born new and received a spiritual rebirth, so they are in the darkness of the world.
God Is For Us
When you have the excellency of God’s power working within you, you will believe like Paul that if God be for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:31)? It doesn’t matter if people or even the devil himself are against you; the Lord will protect you, so never fear what man or the devil can do to you.
The spirit of Antichrist is already taking over the Earth, and most people in this world are lining up with that spirit. Paul spoke of the Antichrist saying, Who opposeth [comes against] and exalteth himself above all that is called God (II Thessalonians 2:4). Those who give over to the Antichrist spirit oppose God and His children, and they don’t want anything that reminds them of God; but Jesus said, Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (I John 4:4).
You must decide that you are greatly blessed with benefits from On High. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits (Psalm 68:19). And you must never forget those benefits. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's (Psalm 103:2-5).
You can have whatever you need because God said, Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me (Jeremiah 32:27)? He is a wonderful, mighty God who has power to work all things out for good, but it must be according to His purpose. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).
Depend on God’s Love
Paul asked, Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword (Romans 8:35)? You must let nothing separate you from God’s love. That love is eternal, and God is using it to draw each member of the bridal company unto Him. Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee (Jeremiah 31:3).
One day, God is going to show our enemies just how much He loves His children. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, loved thee (Revelation 3:9).
However, God is against you if you have left your first love. I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love [the love you receive at Calvary]. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent (Revelation 2:4,5).
God loves us so much that Jesus came to make those who will live holy sons and daughters of God. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty (II Corinthians 6:17,18).
We have to be just like Jesus; and at those times when you don’t know what to do, stop and ask yourself, “What would Jesus say? What would Jesus do?” Then the Lord will let you know what to say or do. He has never failed me yet, and He won’t fail you when you are living holy and want His way with all of your heart.
Let No One Condemn You
When God justifies you freely by His grace, nobody can condemn you. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit [the Holy Spirit] (Romans 8:1).
People may condemn you with their words, and Satan accuses and condemns God’s people all the time; but that doesn’t mean you are really condemned. Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth (Romans 8:33).
God is the only true and righteous judge. He has no prejudice and is not a respecter of persons. Call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work (I Peter 1:17). No one but God has the authority to lay a charge against you.
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us (Romans 8:34). Not only does the Son of God make intercession for you, but the Holy Ghost does, too. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (Romans 8:26).
Knowing that, you should always close your prayers with, “Father, you always hear me,” just as Jesus did. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always (John 11:41,42).
God tells us in His Word that He hears the cry of the righteous. The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry (Psalm 34:15).
No One Prevails against God
God said, For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more (Jeremiah 31:34). If God has forgiven you of your sins, who can find you guilty? No one can because God has removed that sin far from you never to remember it again. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us (Psalm 103:12).
No one has the right to bring up past sins that you have been forgiven of to try and make you feel guilty because those sins are not there anymore. The Bible says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9). God makes us holy.
If God is fighting for you, no one can prevail against you. Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you (Deuteronomy 3:22). The battle is the Lord’s, and the victory will be yours; so never be afraid.
The Bible says, Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest (Joshua 1:9). Jesus came saying, Be not afraid, only believe (Mark 5:36).
Isaiah the prophet wrote, No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper [succeed]; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn [You won’t accept it because you know it is wrong.]. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD (Isaiah 54:17).
A Psalm of Deliverance
Psalm 91 is a marvelous chapter that shows the excellency of God’s power and that He is always there for you. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust (Psalm 91:1,2). If God has you under His wings, no storms of life can harm you.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler (Psalm 91:3,4). God is your shield, and He protects you from the powers of evil.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday (Psalm 91:5,6). You don’t have to be afraid of anything when you are walking in the divine will of God because He will take care of you.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation (Psalm 91:7-9). The storms of life will come; but you can be secure in Heaven’s divine love, grace and peace.
Isaiah the prophet wrote, When thou passest through the waters [troubles], I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee (Isaiah 43:2). That is God’s great protection for us.
The Lord Is Our Redeemer
You can have none of God’s power without being born again, and salvation only comes through the precious blood of Jesus that was shed at Calvary. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot (I Peter 1:18,19).
Once your soul is covered with the divine blood, no devil or person can take your salvation from you. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand (John 10:28).
You are the only one who can cause your salvation to be lost, and that happens when you willfully sin against God. For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation (Hebrews 10:26,27).
That message is so plain; yet today, people and even preachers say that nobody can live free from sin and that once you are saved you can’t backslide. It is wonderful to be free, but many preachers are not free themselves; so they don’t believe anyone else can live free from sin either.
Once you are redeemed, you must become a servant of God. Ye are bought with a price [Christ’s death on the Cross]; be not ye the servants of men (I Corinthians 7:23). I have always considered myself a servant of the Lord, and the greatest honor God has bestowed upon me is to be able to serve people the power of His truth with His gifts and His greatness. He enables me to use His great anointings to deliver people from demonic spirits, and He always gets all of the glory.
Jesus told us He would give us power over devils. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19).
Listen Only to God
When God calls you to do a work for Him, it doesn’t matter who says you can’t do it. The Bible says, Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it (I Thessalonians 5:24). When God called me to preach His Gospel, I wept my heart out before the Lord crying, “I will, but I don’t know how.” All God wanted was my willing heart. Then He gifted me to preach the truth, and I would rather do that than anything else in the whole world.
If God says He is for you in something, there is no one who can be against you; but some of you just give up. You won’t give God a chance to work with you when He sent you the great Holy Ghost, the third person in the Trinity of the Godhead, to comfort you, to make your paths plain and to teach you everything that Christ taught when He was here. The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (John 14:26).
Child of God, let the Lord speak truth to you through His Word and through His Spirit. Then when someone comes against you, you can say, The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts [thy Word] with my whole heart (Psalm 119:69). You must turn those who lie about you over to God because you will just waste your time chasing after them.
Trust completely in God’s truth. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me (Psalm 56:4). You are protected by God Almighty. He is on your side, and all the powers of Heaven are for you. Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us. In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name forever. Selah (Psalm 44:5-8).
True children of God will also have angel help. Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14)? If you are born again, you are an heir of salvation; and you can have the same faith that angels have—Heaven’s faith—if you will only believe.
Do You Want God on Your Side?
Now that you know that no one can be against you if God is for you and you have the excellency of His power working within you, search yourself and find out whether or not God is for you. Have you been forgiven of all your sins? Have you been justified freely by His grace? Have you been redeemed? If not, God is against you and your sin. He is against your doubt, unbelief, rebellion and stubbornness.
The Bible tells us that God can’t look upon sin and favor it in any way. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13). That means God will never endorse one speck of sin.
If you are a sinner or a backslider today, lift up your hands right now and get saved because tomorrow may be too late. The Bible says to boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth (Proverbs 27:1).
You have no power over tomorrow and no lease on life, so pray with me now. Oh, God, I am so lost, but I don’t want to go to hell. I know, Jesus, you died for me, and I will live for you. You said if I would confess my sins, you would be faithful and just to forgive me of my sins; and you would cleanse me from every one. I am confessing all of my sins, and I believe the blood of Jesus washes them all away. Come into my heart, Jesus. Come on in, Jesus! If you meant that prayer, Jesus is all yours.
Receive the Holy Ghost
Now, go on to the Upper Room and receive the Holy Ghost, power from On High. Seek Him with all of your heart with a voice of thanksgiving and praise unto the Lord until the Holy Ghost comes in and takes over your tongue.
The devil will try to make you afraid of the power of the Holy Ghost, but you have nothing to fear or worry about. The Holy Ghost will convince you that He is real when you receive the first evidence of Him—the speaking in tongues. The Bible tells us that on the Day of Pentecost, the disciples spoke in other tongues. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4).
That same power is being poured out today. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8). When you receive the Holy Ghost, you will become a great witness for the Lord.
Many preachers have hindered people by teaching that speaking in tongues is of the devil, and that is why so many of them have committed the unforgivable sin that Jesus spoke of when He was on Earth—blaspheming against the Holy Ghost. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come (Matthew 12:31,32). Most preachers will not even preach one sermon on blaspheming against the Holy Ghost, but God wants them to preach the truth so people can step from bondage into freedom.
God’s Power Brings Miracles
If you are sick and afflicted or you have a child who is afflicted or deformed, you can receive a miracle right now. Many people all over the world have been healed through this Jesus ministry.
Lord, here they are. Multitudes have been delivered of all kinds of deadly diseases. Heal the people of AIDS, diabetes, heart trouble and lung trouble. You create, and you re-create. Cleanse all the lepers, and heal those who have had strokes. Lord, I have watched you make stroke victims whole right before my eyes. The paralysis left them, and they were normal once again. Oh, what my eyes have beheld! It is the glory of you, Lord, and you get all the praise. Heal! in the blood name of Jesus. Heal!
If you believe, the healing blood power is flowing through you right now. Fear will hinder you from getting a miracle or from keeping it after you receive it, so believe with no fear and be made whole. Then keep on believing and live for God. Write or email and tell me what happened to you today; I know it will be miraculous.
