The Call to Duty
by Ernest Angley
January 2012
There are many calls to duty in this life, and we’re pressured in many ways. There are calls to duty for family; but some of you have family members who are not close to God, and they think you should always put them first. They get angry when you won’t answer their calls ahead of God’s call, but the Lord expects you to put Him first. You’re listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit and being drawn unto the Lord. Duty is calling you, and you have a job to do for God.
Some people may feel that they’re being called into politics, into a social life, into big business or into entertainment. There will always be something to call you away from the work of God if you’ll listen, but you have to turn a deaf ear to all of it. The Bible says, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment (Mark 12:30). The call to duty from the throne of God rings loud and clear; but if you keep ignoring it, it will get fainter and fainter until God will give up on you and turn away. The Lord’s call to duty is a great responsibility; but if we don’t heed that call, many will die and go to hell.
Esther Was Called
Esther was just a Jewish slave girl who never dreamed that her call would be to become a queen and save her people. No doubt she was beautiful; and her Uncle Mordecai, who had taken her in and raised her as his very own when her parents died, was so proud of her. He was the one who had made sure that Esther was one of the choices when the king was searching for a queen, and she was chosen over many other girls.
Mordecai was a devoted Jew, and suddenly it was decreed that they would all be killed. Letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey (Esther 3:13). The king’s own right-hand man, Haman, was behind all of this.
When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry (Esther 4:1). When Esther heard about this, she sent one of the king’s chamberlains to find out what was wrong. So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king’s gate. And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them. Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people. And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai (Esther 4:6-9).
When Esther received Mordecai’s message, she knew there was great danger in doing what he wanted her to do; so she sent word back to Mordecai saying, All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words (Esther 4:11,12). No one was permitted to go in before the king unless he or she was called, not even one of his wives. Esther knew that if she went in without being called, she could be killed; and the king hadn’t called for her in thirty days.
Put Your Life into God’s Hands
Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews. For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this (Esther 4:13,14)? You must keep these words of Mordecai in mind when duty calls. The Bible says, For many are called, but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14). The Lord chose Esther to be the queen and save her people. She was put there for that purpose; she just didn’t know it. When there’s a great need and you’re right with God, you’ll be on duty for Him.
If you had been in Esther’s position, what would you have done? Would you have presented yourself before the king? Duty was calling her; her people were calling her, and the uncle she loved so much was calling her to save the Jews in the kingdom from being killed.
Esther was devoted to Jehovah God; so she sent word to Mordecai again saying, Gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish (Esther 4:16). Esther had heard the call to duty, and she got ready to fulfill it.
Fasting Brings Results
Fasting and prayer will prepare you for what God wants, and they will always unlock the door to God’s heart when we have a need. Jesus said, This [miracle] kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21).
This ministry would never have the nine gifts of the Spirit working in such a marvelous way if it hadn’t been for much fasting, many fasts going as long as forty days at a time. The first time the Lord called me for forty days, I thought that would be my only one. Then He called me on a second one, a third one, a fourth one, and it continued. Now there have been so many that I’ve lost count, but the number of fasts a person has had doesn’t matter; what counts is what God does through those fasts. Fasting brings you into the presence of the Lord so you can use the power that’s in His name. It brings you into visions and revelations and all of the strength of Heaven.
I never would have asked God for even one of the nine gifts of the Spirit because I knew that they were given in such a special way and only to special people, and I never thought that I would be counted worthy. I thought it was great enough that God had saved my soul and baptized me in the Holy Ghost; but then He called me to give more service to Him, and I answered that call.
Get Ready to Be Used
Esther knew the value of fasting and prayer. She knew if she prayed with a true, sincere voice, Heaven would hear her. The Bible declares that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16). Esther was preparing herself to be used, not necessarily with a beautiful dress on the outside but by making sure God was in control on the inside. The Lord has told me that prayer, fasting and living in the Word will keep people in step with Him on the paths of His righteousness. Throughout my ministry, those three things have kept me from going to the left or to the right; and they’ve kept me walking in the steps of Jesus and doing His works.
The book of Esther teaches us how to get things done for God. Esther really loved God and her people, but she had more than just human love; she had divine love, and only divine love will answer God’s call. Human love would not have caused her to put her life on the line because she didn’t know what the king would do. Would he be drinking or drunk at the time? Would he resent her for appearing unannounced? And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre (Esther 5:2).
Esther would not have won if she hadn’t gotten ready to win. Our lives should be on the line for God every day, but are you ready to live or die for Him? Are you always listening for the Lord’s call to duty? Some Christians never win because they don’t listen for God’s call or get ready to win. I stay ready all the time because I never want to go into a service or even face a day without being ready to win.
God Uncovers Evil
Once Esther received the king’s favor, she told him all that was about to happen to her people. We are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish…Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so? And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman (Esther 7:4-6).
Haman hated Mordecai, and he had already built a scaffold to hang him on. Why?—because Mordecai would sit at the palace gate and refuse to bow as others did when Haman passed by. Mordecai bowed only to God, knowing that it would put his life on the line. Mordecai had heard the call to duty. He had heard of Haman’s plan while he was sitting at the gate, and Esther wouldn’t have known that her people were going to be killed had he not been in his place.
And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face. And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon. So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king’s wrath pacified (Esther 7:7-10). Haman had thrown himself down before the queen asking for mercy, and God had a hand in that because the king thought Haman was trying to attack his wife; so they hung him on the gallows he had already built for Mordecai.
Then the king gave the Jews a chance to fight for their lives. He had already made the decree that the Jews would be killed, and he couldn’t change that; but he could add to it and allow them to fight. The king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey (Esther 8:11). The Jews fought, and they killed many of their enemies. They won because of God! If a little slave girl can answer such a call from God, then any of us can.
The Power of Prayer
When your life is on the line for the Lord, your heart is on the altar; and you’re plugged into God’s throne in Heaven. You’re listening for His call saying, “Lord, what would you have me do?” The Lord has the first say over my time; what about yours? Many of you tithe your money, but do you ever think about tithing your time? You should start giving the Lord the time that is due Him in prayers, supplications, glorifying His name and thanking Him—not in begging or neglecting Him.
I grew up in a praying home during the Great Depression. My family started and ended each day with prayer, and God brought us through some of the worst days that America has ever seen. People were starving because they couldn’t get work, and many people were begging for bread; but God always supplied our needs. We always had something to eat because we trusted God. Mama and Daddy tithed every dime and every dollar they received.
We were taught never to grumble or complain but to always praise God. He got all the glory for every miracle and healing, and we had many of them in our home. My parents and my two oldest sisters were ready to help people any time of the day or night. Their lives were on the line because they were filled with the Spirit and with the love and the power of God.
Divine love is what you need; and without it, you’ll never be able to do what God wants of you. You may claim to have surrendered your life to God, but you can’t do that without divine love. You may say that you’re willing to die for the sake of Christ, but you won’t be without divine love. Some people always talk about working for God, but they never do. They’ll travel all over and do many things for pleasure but think nothing of neglecting what God wants.
I always put God first in my life no matter who calls or what happens. When I became a preacher, my mother and dad expected me to do that; and they were so glad I did. If I couldn’t make it to every special occasion they had, it was all right with them because they had great love for God and for His work. They were true examples of children of God—they lived like Jesus, and they talked like Jesus. They didn’t fuss or fight, and they fasted often. They were full of God’s love, and they always answered His call.
Listen and Obey
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1). You can only be a living sacrifice when your life is truly on the line. Only then will you do the will of God without backing down; and if you perish, you perish. You won’t compromise with enemies or even with friends and family. You must love God more than anything no matter what they say. It’s sad that so many people don’t feel the Lord’s call to duty like they should.
God knows I’ll do whatever He wants me to do and go wherever He wants me to go, but I wait on the Lord before I move. I always want to be in His divine will. I wouldn’t have pastored the same church for over fifty years if I hadn’t listened to the call of God. My wife, Angel, and I were in the evangelistic work, and we wanted to evangelize the world. I never thought the Lord would want us to settle down, but He did.
God gave us His call when He visited with me in a divine visitation and said, “You’re to go to Akron, Ohio.” We had never intended to set up our headquarters in Ohio, and we had already chosen a city that we both loved in the South. I had never dreamed of building a church because we were planning to travel. We had planned to build only an office building and then go to the world; but the Lord said, “You will establish me a work.” That was the Lord’s call to duty; and after many years, we’re going stronger than ever and reaching multitudes with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Call from the Burning Bush
As I search the pages of God’s Word for the call to duty, I find Moses; and what a call he had! And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him [Moses] in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground (Exodus 3:2-5). What brought about such a call?—love.
Because of their great love, Moses’ mother and dad hid him away for three months because the proclamation had gone forth that all of the Hebrew baby boys were to be killed. And when she [Moses’ mother] saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months (Exodus 2:2). She had heard the Lord’s call to duty, and she would not let her baby be killed.
Moses’ parents saw something in their child that God could use, and they made a little basket for Moses like God had directed them to. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him (Exodus 2:3,4). Imagine how that mother’s heart must have bled as she closed the cover of that little basket and set it on the big Nile River, but she knew she had placed him into God’s hands. She had heard the call to duty.
And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him…and he became her son. And she called his name Moses (Exodus 2:5,6,10).
God’s Call of Deliverance
Pharaoh’s daughter raised Moses as her very own, but he never got away from the love he had for his people. Although they were slaves, he stood up for them. At one time, he killed an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew slave, and he had to flee for his life; but years later, he returned. His life was on the line because he didn’t know whether or not he’d be killed, but it didn’t matter to him. He had come to the same place as Esther—“If I perish, I perish.”
And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey…Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt (Exodus 3:7,8,10). Moses knew how hard that was going to be, and he knew his life would be in danger; but his call to duty came loud and clear, and he answered that call with great love.
God sent Moses back to Egypt to bring a nation out of a nation; and God moved through Moses with mighty signs, wonders, miracles and healings. The Bible says that out of all of those multitudes of people, there wasn’t a weak one among them when they came out of Egypt. He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes (Psalm 105:37).
God had made a covenant with the Israelites saying, I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26). Then He promised to keep sickness away from their door. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling (Psalm 91:10). Moses endured much to bring the Israelites out of Egypt, but God performed miracle after miracle just as He did for Esther and her people.
A Call to Rebuild
Nehemiah had a call from God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem that had been destroyed. He had been taken captive and was forced to leave the Holy Land; but when he heard God’s call to return, the king gave Nehemiah permission to go.
Nehemiah and the other workers faced great persecution from their enemies who didn’t want those walls to be rebuilt. Things got so bad that they had to build with one hand and hold a sword in the other. They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon (Nehemiah 4:17).
Some people would mock their work saying, If a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall (Nehemiah 4:3). Others would try to stop them or slow them down by saying, “Come down and talk to us.” But Nehemiah answered, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you (Nehemiah 6:3)? They came down only to wash and change their clothes. So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing (Nehemiah 4:23). They didn’t let anything stop them, and they built the walls with great success. Why?—It was a call to duty from the Lord.
Sent of God
God has called many people down through these hundreds of years; and He has sent them through His power, His love and His Spirit. John is another good example. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe (John 1:6,7). God’s people are called to be witnesses to the light of His love, grace, faith, deliverance, holiness, righteousness and divine blood. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light (John 1:8). John wasn’t the light; Jesus was the light. Neither are we the light, but we are sent to bear witness of that light.
John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus, and the Lord used him in such a mighty way. He boldly preached the Gospel, and he had the great privilege of baptizing Jesus and seeing the Holy Ghost come down upon Him in the form of a dove. The Bible says that John the Baptist had the Holy Ghost right from his mother’s womb. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb (Luke 1:15).
From the time John was born, he never committed one sin; and the Lord called him the greatest prophet of all. Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he (Matthew 11:11). John the Baptist was great in truth, righteousness and holiness; and he didn’t compromise. John eventually lost his life, but he had fulfilled his mission; and that’s what counts.
Adam and Eve were called on a great divine mission to go forth and multiply upon the Earth. All of their children would have been holy, and the Earth would have been a paradise if they had not failed. Nobody would have ever gotten sick or died, and everybody would have stayed young; but Adam and Eve sinned against God even though He had warned them to stay away from the tree of death. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis 2:16,17). They were welcome to go to the tree of life, but it’s so sad that they chose the tree of death instead.
No Time to Fail
Abraham too was sent by God; but he didn’t fail, and he became the father of the faithful. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham (Galatians 3:8,9). Joseph was sent by God to Egypt to be the savior of his people. He was tested and tried; but through it all, he remained so humble.
We can’t let anything stop us because Jesus said, This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come (Matthew 24:14). We’re going to bring back King Jesus. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in (Psalm 24:7). We don’t have long, so we have to hurry to bring in the harvest; and we must not fail. We must meet the Lord in the air with armfuls of sheaves that we have brought in from the fields. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him (Psalm 126:6). We must always be somewhere working for our Lord and winning souls.
We don’t have time to get old or slow down, and the Lord said He’d renew your youth. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s (Psalm 103:5). Why don’t you claim that miracle? Jesus said, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23). When you look in the mirror and see white hair and wrinkles, just say, “Lord, I want my youth to be renewed so I can do more work for you.” We won’t be old in Heaven; so if He can make you young and whole in Heaven, He can make you young down here. The Bible says, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Answer God with No Fear
Daniel was called of God to deliver prophecies. Some of them were fulfilled right away, and others were not to be fulfilled until hundreds or even thousands of years later. Many of Daniel’s prophecies are still being fulfilled today.
The Hebrew boys were called to face the fiery furnace. The Lord Himself came down to stand with them in that furnace, and the fire didn’t even burn them. The Hebrew boys refused to compromise, and they answered the Lord’s call. If you don’t compromise, you don’t have to fear the devil, other people or anything else on this Earth. Fear destroys, and the devil works through fear to tear you down and make a nervous wreck out of you; but you can’t allow that. The Lord didn’t give us the spirit of fear. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (II Timothy 1:7). God gave us a sober mind like the one Jesus had when He was here.
Little David had a great call when he was only about thirteen years old. God sent him after the giant, Goliath, because King Saul had backslidden—devils had taken him over, and God wasn’t able to use him. The Lord needed somebody He could trust; so He turned to a little shepherd boy, one God had already used to kill a lion and a bear.
David didn’t know the Lord was sending him on a mission. He was just doing what his dad had told him to—going to check on his brothers who were fighting in God’s army; but when he arrived, he couldn’t believe what he saw and asked, Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God (I Samuel 17:26)? Saul didn’t have anybody who would volunteer to fight Goliath; so when David said he’d go, Saul had no other choice.
David went down to the brook with his trusty slingshot in hand and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine. And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled (I Samuel 17:40,48-51). David didn’t have any ego or carry a big sword, and it took only one small stone to kill that giant. It won’t take all of your stones—all of Jesus—to kill the giants that are coming against you either.
My Call to Duty
I was just a little farm boy the first time the Lord visited with me and gave me my call to duty, but I didn’t know what it was at the time. The Lord caught me away into His glory. My bed and all went out the window, and I was surrounded by millions of stars everywhere I looked. I was to learn later that those were the souls I would win for the Lord. When I came to myself, I was still on my bed; and all the furniture that had moved in the vision was back in place. I shook the bed because I wanted it to move again, and then it was as if a giant hand lifted up one poster of that heavy, wooden bed and dropped it with a great thud. That was the end.
I never told a soul about that vision, but I lived it over and over again. Even after I got saved, I still didn’t know what really had happened that night. Many years later, as I was down praying one Saturday night, the roof suddenly went off of my living room; and there were stars everywhere. Before I could get fixed, I cried, “I have seen this sight before!” Then the Lord spoke and said, “I gave it to you when you were a child. The stars are the souls you will win for me.” Suddenly, a brand-new world had opened up to me, and I’ll never forget that night for all eternity.
It’s hard to tell how many thousands of souls we’re winning every week now, but we’re going to win millions more. The Lord still takes me into those stars again and again. At times, when I’ve been ministering on the platform, the stars have come down so low that I could have reached up and touched them. The Lord is showing me the souls who are being drawn to us by the multitudes.
Called to Preach
I had been taught the truth, the whole Word of God, since I was a child; and it made all the difference in the world. It was in my head and in my mind because I had learned it at home and at school. The scriptures fell right into my spirit, and I’ve used them many times down through the years.
After I was saved, God called me to preach right away; and the Lord gifted me with preaching before I ever went to a school of theology. The Holy Ghost would take me over, and God’s Word would flow out like mighty rivers. I enjoyed preaching better than eating, and I still do. When I finished attending man’s school of theology, the Lord let me know that I would have to be taught by the Holy Ghost. He would teach me how God’s gifts of the Spirit would operate; and as I lived in God’s presence, I began to receive those gifts.
Later on in my ministry, I came to a crossroad. The preachers in the organization I was affiliated with were trying to defeat me and convince me to forget about the gifts of the Spirit, but those gifts were the power of God. I couldn’t forget about the power of God any more than I could forget about my own life. I had heard the call to duty, and I was willing to die for the sake of Christ.
Those preachers rose up and persecuted me so much that they even tried to make people think I’d gone crazy. They said that I had stayed away with God and fasted and prayed so much that I’d lost my mind, but I knew that wasn’t true. I knew I’d had a visitation from God, that I’d answered His call and yielded myself completely to Him; so I didn’t fight back. I fell at the feet of Jesus, and He let me know I was to leave that denomination. I obeyed the Lord, and He has been blessing this ministry in a great way ever since.
I’m Sent to the World
I am sent of God to preach the Gospel of Jesus and the miracles of Almighty God. I am sent to teach about the blood that stained the Old Rugged Cross, about the power of the Holy Ghost and about the burning bush and the great pillar of fire; but no preacher should ever preach unless he or she is sent by God. God didn’t send Moses forth without the fire, and God didn’t send me forth without it either.
I have yielded so completely to God and His Word that He uses my mind as His very own, and it’s something to know what God is thinking upon His throne. His messages just flow to me, and He’s subject to wake me up at any hour because I’m always on duty for Him. His call is for me to serve people the true Gospel, and I’ll wake up in an early morning hour to find that the Lord is giving me a message. I’ll roll out of bed and start writing as the Lord delivers it. I love those times when I’m plugged into the throne of God, and He’s pouring it out to me. Then I pour it out to the people.
I am the head of this great Jesus ministry because God called me to be. I didn’t intend to settle down and pastor a church; but when the Lord called me to establish a work for Him, He said, “I’m sending you on a divine mission.” I went sent by God, and I thought it would take about one year. I figured I could establish Him a good work in that time and then be on my journey to the nations, preaching the Gospel to the world; but that wasn’t God’s plan.
Later, the Lord told me that this ministry would be the platform for the world in the final hour, and so it is. We are going to the ends of the Earth, and multitudes are coming to the Lord in our great miracle crusade services. I have that divine “go ye,” and I have to have souls. Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15).
I can do anything for Jesus, and I never refuse Him. I do whatever He tells me to do, and I go wherever He tells me to go. People may think we’re crazy for going into some of the places we do, but we’re taking the Gospel to lost souls; and we go without any fear. We put our lives into the hands of God knowing that we’re doing His will and that He’s using us to evangelize the world. If we fail, many will die and go to hell; so we must live in the truth and take it to people with signs, wonders and miracles.
A Ministry of Miracles
God’s miracles draw people to this ministry, and we have miracles in abundance in every service. God is doing unbelievable and unthinkable things in this hour, and I thank God for all of it. He said, For I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you (Habakkuk 1:5). It’s not the will of God for people to be sick. Jesus came with healing in His wings. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings (Malachi 4:2). God’s miracles give great light to people; so when you receive a miracle, be a bold witness of light and tell people about it.
I always know there will be plenty of miracles wherever we go. It’s something to see crippled limbs come to normal, watch the deaf receive hearing and witness those with AIDS being healed. We’re documenting the AIDS cases to prove that it’s really happening, and there are now thousands of witnesses who have been healed of AIDS and other deadly diseases through this Jesus ministry. Doctors don’t know what to make of it.
Can You Hear God’s Call?
What is your heart willing to do today? Are you willing to please your family? Are you willing to please those you work with? Are you willing to please politicians, business people, sports figures or anyone else of the world? My heart is willing to please God—to do all that He wants me to do, to give my whole life to Him, to spend untold hours with Him and to fast often so I can grow spiritually. The Bible says, And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).
You must hear the call to duty today. I hear it night and day; and I say, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.” He dealt with Esther and with Moses, and He will deal with us, too. He was with Nehemiah when he built the walls, and He will be with us as we build walls of love around the world through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Do you hear that great call? The Lord told me that some of you are not hearing His call, and some are no longer answering it. At one time, you heard it loud and clear and were willing to do all that God wanted you to do. You were rich in divine love and divine joy; you had the good Holy Ghost bubbling on the inside of you, and God came first in your life. Now, instead of answering the call to duty, you’re answering the call to family, to your job, to having a good time and to doing only what you want to do. You don’t go to church like you should when the Bible says, Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching (Hebrews 10:25).
If you want to hear God’s call to duty, your ears have to be open to the Holy Spirit; and you must realize that your body is His temple. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (I Corinthians 6:19)? How holy do you think that temple should be? The Bible tells us, Be ye holy; for I am holy (I Peter 1:16). We must be as holy as God is, and He has called us to that holiness. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness (I Thessalonians 4:7). He has nothing else to call us to but holiness and righteousness.
Prayer Touches Heaven
Jesus had a call to duty to give people what His Father had said. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak (John 12:49). Jesus knew how to pray and get answers from Heaven, and He put great stress on the value of prayer. Jesus would stay up all night and pray, but the disciples couldn’t pray like that. He’d let them go to sleep while He talked all night to the Father on the throne. When He died, He made a blood-line straight to Heaven so we can talk to God any time, too. Have you ever talked to the Father all night? It’s wonderful to have that kind of communication with Him.
We should all be able to pray as Jesus did saying, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always (John 11:41,42). You can’t say that unless you answer the call to duty and put God first in your life. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5,6).
True, honest prayer reaches the throne of grace, unlocks the door to God’s heart and takes you and your requests right into His heart. Some of you doubt because you don’t put your whole heart into your prayers, but I put my whole heart into my prayers not only for myself but especially for others. I want them to know that my Father and His Son live, that the Holy Spirit and all the promises of God are real.
Let the Lord Use You
This is our hour of great deliverance; but you have to be determined to follow Jesus, and you have to have your life on the altar. You must be willing to live or die to be in God’s will. My cry to the Lord is, “Take all of me, Lord, and use me however you want to so I can bring the most souls into your Kingdom. I am all yours, and I will not compromise.” Many of you will not compromise either.
In the Early Church, the disciples were sent forth by the Lord and through the power of the Holy Ghost; and it didn’t matter what they had to suffer because they knew they were sent of God. And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following (Mark 16:20).
Paul was one of those early disciples, and he became a great apostle. Study the life of Paul, and you’ll see that nothing could stop him. He went through so much, but he won. He told Timothy, For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (II Timothy 4:6,7). I’ve studied Paul again and again, and he has been my greatest inspiration next to Jesus Christ to bring me to where I am in Christ today.
Believe for Souls
I’m always listening in on Heaven and seeking the will of God so we can open up more avenues and travel more places to bring more souls to the Lord. Let the power of the Holy Ghost churn up and down in your soul and give you the strength it gives me. That power brings miracles; and we can’t only believe in miracles, we must depend on them! I don’t give up on people; and I do my best, even going on long fasts, to help people receive miracles.
God brings the sick and afflicted in; and I know He will heal them, deliver them and set them free. I preach the Word of faith to people and tell them that God will do what He said He would do, and I believe that with all of my heart. Divine faith is a part of me, and divinity is just as real to me as the air I breathe. I’ve learned so much about working with divinity.
Divine faith is “big faith,” but Jesus always called human faith “little faith.” He tried to get the disciples to travel the road of divine faith when He was here, but they couldn’t stay on it until after they had received the Holy Ghost. He told them that when the Spirit came, rivers of living water would flow from them. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). These are Holy Ghost waters; and when they flow through us like mighty rivers, people are saved, healed and delivered. Skeptics become believers because they see mighty miracles taking place right before their very eyes.
The Lord is making witnesses all over the world. He told me that He is seeking people upon whom He can perform mighty miracles so they will become great witnesses for Him in this final hour. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him (II Chronicles 16:9).
Jesus Is Coming Soon
When God tells me something, I hold on to it because I know it will be fulfilled without a doubt. Jesus said He would come, and He will; and when He does, it will be quick. The end-time signs warn us day and night that we don’t have long.
You must keep yourself separated from the world. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you (II Corinthians 6:17). We can’t be a part of the world and a part of God, too; we have to be without spot, wrinkle, blemish or any such thing. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27).
The Lord promised that He would keep His children from the hour of temptation to come. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth (Revelation 3:10). We’re hated by our enemies—the devil and the world—but we’ll soon be gone, so those of us who are ready don’t have anything to fear or worry about.
Being ready includes having the baptism of the Holy Ghost. The Lord told me it would take more power to go to Heaven by air than by way of the grave because we’ll miss the appointment of death. He said we’d be changed by the power of the Holy Ghost. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you (Romans 8:11). That power won’t work from the outside, so it has to be within you. It will be like an explosion, and then you’ll have your glorified body. When that time comes, I want to be somewhere helping people receive the Holy Ghost; and we’ve had thousands receive the baptism in moments of time in our crusade services.
I love the Holy Ghost and the power that Jesus had. He went forth in the power of the Spirit, and great miracles took place. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about (Luke 4:14). Still today, the true Jesus ministry is loaded down with signs, wonders, miracles and healings. You and I wouldn’t be here today if it were not for the miracles of God.
The Light of the Gospel
Jesus said, Ye are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). The Bible says, In him [Jesus] was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not (John 1:4,5). Many of the people who sat in darkness didn’t even comprehend that it was Heaven’s light shining upon them, so they didn’t receive anything. We must shine for the Lord just like Queen Esther, Nehemiah, Moses and others did who answered the call to duty from Heaven saying, “Not my will, Father, but thine be done.” That’s my cry today, too.
I look after the little lambs of God just as Jesus did; that’s part of my call to duty. Don’t you feel that same call to bring in the lost at any cost? Many of you do or you wouldn’t sacrifice to work and give like you do. People travel for miles to be in our services, but not everybody can do that; so we’re reaching out to them in many different ways, and they’re reaching to us. I take their hands and put them into the hands of Jesus knowing that He’ll take care of them.
If you’re only answering the call to duty once in a while, I hope after reading this message that you’ll start answering that call all the time. There’s just one flight out, and only those who answer the call to duty will be changed in a moment to meet the Lord in the air. Are you ready? Is your life really on the line? Do you have the divine love that makes you willing to do the whole will of God no matter what comes your way? We have to hurry to get our work done because the night cometh, when no man can work (John 9:4).
Hear the Salvation Call
Sinner, you’re missing out on so much, but the call to salvation is yours today. Don’t be left in the Tribulation Period; it will be the worst time that the world has ever seen. Jesus said that unless the days were shortened, there would be no lives saved. For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened (Matthew 24:21,22).
Jesus is soon coming; can’t you feel it? The end-time signs are being fulfilled all around us, and you must know that it’s almost time to go home. I’m glad I finally answered God’s call when I was eighteen. I didn’t want to at first because I thought I wouldn’t have any life after salvation, but I was wrong. After being born new, I was so glad that I had left the world behind; and I never had a desire to go back.
You’ll be glad, too, if you’ll come to Jesus now. Say this prayer, Oh, God, I’m so sorry that I’ve sinned against you. But I’m coming home, and I’m going to serve you, Lord, for the rest of my life. I confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died for me. I believe in the great miracle of salvation, and I want to be born new so I can have the image of God in my life. I believe the blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in! If you meant that prayer, Jesus is yours. You’ve been born new; and now when God looks at you, He’ll see His very image.
Receive a Miracle
It’s time to get your physical miracle, to be made whole all over like the Lord made me whole so many years ago. I was so sick, and it looked like I would die for sure. I had answered God’s call to duty, so I couldn’t understand why He would let me die when I’d been preaching for such a short time. I had watched my body go down to almost a skeleton, and more and more of my organs were becoming afflicted. I didn’t know all that was wrong with me, but God knew; and He sent Jesus to me one wonderful night. The Lord came and made me completely whole, and my long, torturous nights were all gone. I was going to live!
Put everything into God’s hands, and He’ll do the same thing for you. Are you ready? If you have HIV/AIDS, diabetes or any other disease that medical science cannot cure, God can heal you. You can be delivered from cancer, leprosy and strokes; and little children who are born with only part of a brain can be made whole. I am God’s believer, and He is the healer; and I’m going to agree with you for a miracle now.
Lord, I’ve told the people how you came with healing in your wings for all those who will believe; and with your blood-stripes, we can have physical healing. Lord, you heal AIDS, cancer, diabetes, heart trouble, lung trouble, paralysis and leprosy. You create and re-create, and you’ve done it so many times. Heal! in the blood-name of Jesus. Heal! in the divine blood of Jesus!
God’s healing power is flowing to conquer all diseases. Wilt thou be made whole? Get well and then send me your Jesus testimony. We use the testimonies to help others use their faith to receive the miracles they need. Remember, the Lord said in His Word that He would make witnesses; and He has made you a great witness by giving you this wonderful miracle. Now, go and be a witness for Him.
