Spiritual Anchors Grace And God’s Promises
by Ernest Angley
September 2018
When a ship is being tossed about on a stormy sea or dragged out of its path by a strong current, the crew will throw out anchors to try to secure it. In the same way, children of God must throw out spiritual anchors to secure their ship during the storms of life. The Lord gave me four powerful anchors that His true people must have to protect themselves and to steady the Gospel ship for them—divine love, divine faith, grace and the promises of God. With these four anchors, you won’t sink when the storms of life come; and your ship will never be destroyed.
The August 2018 issue of “The Power of the Holy Ghost” magazine taught about the first two anchors; and in this issue, you will learn about the second two anchors. First, let’s review some introductory information from the previous issue. The Gospel ship of Jesus Christ is a righteous, holy ship that is consecrated and dedicated to the Lord for God’s people. No ship goes out to sea without anchors, and the Gospel ship is no different. In this last hour, the storms of life are coming fast and furious; and the devil knows the members of the Bride of Christ have four spiritual anchors available to them. If you don’t use those anchors, you will be headed for shipwreck.
You need these spiritual anchors to steady your ship so you will be safe on your journey no matter how terrible the storms of life become. When the big waves roll in, you will be able to ride them out because you will have the right anchors; and they will enable you to rest your soul in the bosom of the Lord and in His love. Then one sweet day, we will anchor our souls in that haven of rest called Heaven and sail the dark seas no more. That Celestial City is a divine city where all is calm and full of love and faith. It is a place rooted and grounded in divinity and made only by divine hands.
Divine Grace
The third great anchor is grace, which is all the favor of God; and no one can be saved or stay saved without it. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9). You cannot get to Heaven or save yourself from the stormy deep just by doing good works; you must have the anchor of grace. The Bible says, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness (II Corinthians 12:9).
Jesus came and brought saving grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (John 1:17). Jesus came to Earth as the Word made flesh. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:14). Through this grace, we can have all the fullness of God. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace (John 1:16).
We are not to go from grace to the things of flesh and the devil but from grace to grace. God’s grace is eternal, and it will never run out. That grace existed long before Jesus came because the Bible says, Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD (Genesis 6:8). That grace lasted for 120 years while the ark was being built by just eight people, and only through that divine grace could God have waited patiently for all those years.
Now, God is waiting on the Gentile Bride to get her work done. He has been waiting for about 2000 years, but that time is almost up. God finally closed the ark door in Noah’s day, and He is about to close the door on this Gentile Dispensation, too. When He does, everybody who is on the wrong side of that door will be left in the horrible, seven-year Tribulation Period; and that will be an awful time.
The end is very near, so we must let grace help us reach every soul we possibly can. Grace will make you a blessing to yourself and to others, so you must use it on every sinner you can. It will help you bring people into the knowledge of the truth and into the grace in perfection that will deliver them from all sin.
Grace gives complete victory over everything! And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:10). When you are complete, there is nothing lacking; but no one can be complete without fully giving their hearts to the divine, grace blood of Jesus. Then the Lord will be able to supply all of your needs. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
If you won’t let Him first supply your needs spiritually, He cannot supply them physically or financially either.
Live in Grace
As a man, Jesus talked grace and lived in grace. He brought such amazing grace to mankind that He said, Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely (Revelation 22:17). There is nothing like divine truth and grace; and in this final hour, you will live in grace or disgrace. You will live holy or unholy, righteous or unrighteous, in the favor of God or out of it. You will be on your way to Heaven or on your way to hell.
You must know what kind of person you are. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates (II Corinthians 13:5)?
Before reading on, you need to answer some questions: Do you live a grace life in the Lord? Do you walk hand in hand with Jesus on the grace highway of God? Are your prayers being answered; and can you really say as Jesus did, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always (John 11:41,42)?
You must always keep the anchor of grace before you, and ask the Lord to search your life to see if you are really pleasing Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to let you know if you are truly walking with both of your hands in the hands of the Lord. Keep your tongue and your speech covered with grace, and you will talk like Jesus. Make steps of grace; and you will walk like Jesus, work like Jesus and hear and see as a son or daughter of God.
Grace people are fair like Jesus Christ. They are in love with Heaven and the Godhead, and they have no ego. Grace people are obedient to the truth; they carry wonder-working power, and they are ready to work for the Lord. They are not consumed with lust and riches, and they don’t grumble and complain. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).
Grace brings the fire of the Holy Ghost to burn upon your soul and in your mind, and that pillar of fire shines brightly to light your way. There is nothing like the fire of the Holy Ghost, the fire of divine grace; and through the eyes of grace, the scriptures will leap to life so you won’t ever run ahead of God or lag behind. The grace anchor keeps you walking with Jesus every day.
Grace to Stand
Paul was in the stormy deep so much of the time, and he faced many trials and tribulations; but God’s grace always saw him through. Paul spent many years in prison, but he didn’t sit there with an idle mind; he wrote many books of the Bible while he was in prison.
Paul was a real man of God, and he gave himself over to the love and faith of God just like Jesus did. If the first Adam had been as determined as the Apostle Paul was, he never would have fallen into the hands of the devil. Eve could have gone to the death tree, but Adam wouldn’t have listened to her or followed her there.
You have to take your stand for the Lord, but you cannot do that without grace. You must have the favor of God, and you must walk in the righteousness and holiness of Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).
You have to live free from all sin; yet many of those who claim to be Christians are deceived and say that nobody lives free from sin when the Bible clearly says, The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:20). You can live free from sin if you really have Jesus inside because you will no longer want to sin and be like the devil. You will seek daily to be just like Jesus, a true son or daughter of God. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12).
Jesus came to make us sons and daughters through the divine blood that He brought from Heaven; and when you are born new, you become as holy as God is. Be ye holy; for I am holy (I Peter 1:16). The Lord is coming after a spotless Bride. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27).
God made Adam and Eve in His image. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them (Genesis 1:27). They lost that image when they sinned; but when you are born again, you take on the image of God once again.
When God looks at a person, He must see a reflection of Himself. What does God see when He looks at you?
So many people today don’t want Jesus, and they embrace all kinds of false religions. Jesus came as the Savior of the world, but He cannot be a person’s Savior unless the person is delivered from all sin and remains free from sin. Only then is the person holy and righteous and living in the image of God.
Seas of Promises
The final spiritual anchor the Lord gave me is the promises of God, and the Lord showed me in a great vision that there are seas of them. In building this great Jesus ministry, whenever I faced stormy times, I would tie a knot at the end of my rope and hold on until the Lord moved; and He never failed me. It takes a lot of effort to hold on to your rope with no foundation under you except faith and love, but the Lord always gave me the strength I needed.
Then one day, God came to me and said, “Let go of the knot. From now on, you will walk on the seas of promises.” It seemed that I was way up in the air; and when I let go, I felt myself falling down until I landed so softly on God’s sea of promises. There were no big waves as far as I could see, and I was walking on His sea of promises.
I am going to walk all of the Lord’s seas of promises until I reach all people throughout the world and give them a chance to receive the Gospel. I never get tired of preaching and teaching the story of Jesus; and even though I don’t like to travel, I do it for souls. I promised God I would do anything for souls, and I have never backed down on that promise.
God’s promises are all true, and the Lord told me that all the powers of Heaven are in each one. Although there are thousands of them, each one stands alone in power and greatness; and they are sufficient for whatever we need.
Stake Your Claim
It is not enough just to know the promises of God; you have to claim them and hold on to them. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast (Revelation 3:3). Every promise in the Bible is yours if you meet its condition. The devil will try to discourage you so you won’t claim any of them, but look to Jesus; He is your faith. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). God’s promises are just print on paper if you do not meet their conditions or claim them.
God told the Israelites that the land of Canaan was theirs, but they would have to put their foot on it and claim it. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses (Joshua 1:3). Even after God had told them this, they didn’t do it; and they lost the land. Now, the Lord is gathering the Jews back to Israel, but they are still failing Him. Soon, they are going to be swept into the Tribulation Period to be deceived by the Antichrist just as they are deceived now.
Jesus came with divine blood from Heaven to help us hold on to everything He brought; but when you doubt, you are not holding on, and you will not receive. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord (James 1:6,7). If you let your faith waver, you will lose confidence in God’s promises and fail to obey them; and that is a disobedience to God.
You must have faith, and it comes by hearing the Word of God. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). It takes faith to have the strength to hold on to the Word, and we must live by that faith. The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17).
You must know that God keeps all of His promises. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us (II Corinthians 1:20). Then hold on and wait for them to be fulfilled. You cannot hold on for only a little while and then let doubt creep in; you must hold on all the time.
When Jesus was here, He walked the same valleys that we face today; and He lived by the same promises that we have to live by. Oh, how He suffered; but He defeated death, hell and the grave because He held fast. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory (I Corinthians 15:55)?
Submit to God’s Way
Jesus is the divine Son of God, but He took on human flesh and became the son of man so He could be our example. As a man, He had to use divinity and the four anchors; and He showed us how to do that. He demonstrated them over and over, even in the Garden of Gethsemane on His last night of freedom.
Jesus was in such agony as He prayed that night that God the Father sent an angel to give Him strength. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him (Luke 22:43). It seemed that His flesh could not take much more as He prayed, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me (Luke 22:42). But Jesus had the anchors; and He immediately followed up with, Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done (Luke 22:42). Then He went on to be beaten nearly to death and to be crucified on Calvary.
Jesus was a man of sorrows. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:3). Yet this despised man was the one who came saying He would take all of our burdens. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (I Peter 5:7). The reason some people don’t receive all the help they need from God is because they won’t give their burdens to Him.
Jesus said He came to bring us life. I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). That life is more abundant than anything people have ever had outside of Eden. We also have the nine divine fruits of the Spirit to help us. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22,23). You can gather that fruit any hour of the day or night, and there is plenty for whatever you need.
God Is Enough
Somebody once asked me, “How big is God?” My answer was and still is, “He is big enough”; and that is all we need to know. God said, Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me (Jeremiah 32:27)? That is God’s promise to us, so that means He is big enough to hold the whole world in His hands and to save every person on Earth who wants to be saved. He is big enough to carry everyone to Heaven, and He is big enough to give us eternal life so we will live forevermore. He is big enough to take away every sickness and disease and to take any weakness out of our bodies.
God is big enough to give us the mind His Son, Jesus, had when He was here on Earth. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5). That mind is a divine mind in a human body; and Paul told the Corinthians, But we have the mind of Christ (I Corinthians 2:16).
God will also give us the same wisdom and knowledge His Son had. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him (James 1:5). God loves us to ask for His wisdom, and He will never rebuke us for doing that. Jesus came saying, Ask, and ye shall receive (John 16:24). He also said, If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you (John 15:7).
Jesus is our tree of life, and all Heaven flows to us through Him. When I use the name of Jesus, the blind get their sight, the deaf hear and crippled people are made to walk. Parts of people’s bodies are re-created, and thousands are delivered in just moments of time through the divine blood.
In my overseas crusade services, the Lord directed me to start having people say, “The blood, the blood, the blood.” As they do, the blood falls into their souls; and all the devils flee. Then they invite Jesus in, and many of them go on to receive the Holy Ghost. We must understand and use the blood and the Word in this last hour, and you must allow the Holy Ghost to teach you the scriptures.
Everyone Needs Holy Ghost Power
Jesus, the Word, came saying, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). People must be drawn to the truth by the Spirit; and Jesus said, And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me (John 12:32). We must lift Jesus up before the world with these divine anchors of love, faith, grace and the divine promises. As we lift Him up, He will enable us to do His works. He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [greater in number] works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12).
We cannot do these works without the power of the Holy Ghost, and Jesus promised Him to us. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever (John 14:16). The promised Comforter did come on the Day of Pentecost, but how many people today use that power from On High along with their anchors?
You must have miracle power, but the miracle worker can only be inside you when you have the baptism of the Holy Ghost. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8). The Holy Ghost is a person, and you must let Him become living reality to you.
You will not make it in this dangerous hour without the power of the Holy Ghost, but many people don’t have Him. Some think they do, but they talk in tongues at will and prophesy at will; and that is not the real Holy Ghost baptism from Heaven.
The Lord told me that when people speak in tongues at will, it is of flesh and the devil; and it grieves His Spirit. It opens the door for the devil to take over and use their tongues, and that is why it is so dangerous. Nevertheless, many people don’t want the real thing because they don’t want to live holy and pay the price.
Many preachers today teach against the baptism in the Holy Ghost, and no one in their churches ever receives the power the disciples received in the Upper Room. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:1–4).
Never Reject the Spirit
You must have the Holy Ghost if you want to make the Rapture because the Lord said we will be changed according to the power that worketh within us. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you (Romans 8:11). When the Rapture takes place, it will be like an explosion on the inside; and we will be changed in a moment. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (I Corinthians 15:52).
The Holy Ghost is for everyone, but in order to receive Him, you first have to be made holy. Then when you receive Him, your body becomes His temple. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (I Corinthians 6:19)?
You cannot fight the Holy Spirit and expect to go to Heaven regardless of what anybody says. People have mocked God’s power and mimicked the Holy Ghost, the third person in the Trinity of the Godhead, for years; and I don’t want to be with them on their seas of life because they have nothing but darkness and death ahead of them. They don’t have the light of Heaven to guide them through the stormy nights; and without that light, there is no life.
When people reject the Holy Ghost, they cannot see the Lord’s holy way even when the sun is shining by day or when the moon and stars are shining by night. They don’t know how to walk through the darkness of sin and stay away from it, and they can’t see their way to Calvary because they won’t accept the light. The real Holy Ghost power has been scorned by preachers, teachers and many so-called Christians. They have robbed themselves and others, and they will soon be shipwrecked and never see Heaven.
The Lord told me years ago that the hour would come when people, even Pentecostal preachers, would blaspheme against the Holy Ghost; and that hour is here. So many have fallen away from the truth, but the Lord said it would happen before the Antichrist would be revealed. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin [the Antichrist] be revealed, the son of perdition (II Thessalonians 2:3). The manifestations of the Antichrist spirit are all over the world now, and no place on Earth is safe any longer. Your only safety is in the arms of Jesus, and you must strive to keep yourself and your children there.
Use the Anchors
Are your anchors sure today? Can you trust them to keep you afloat during all of life’s storms? God doesn’t want you to be tossed about on the angry seas of life; so you must use all four of God’s anchors to secure your soul in the depths of God’s love, in His holy faith, in the grace of Jesus Christ and in the promises of God. Then you will have nothing to fear and nothing to worry about.
These anchors are life for you today, and God wants you to have them and use them; but you cannot use these anchors without prayer, fasting and living in the Word. You cannot let any storm destroy you or defeat you; and if you have the four anchors, nothing will. There is no defeat in Christ Jesus.
Don’t let the devil cause you to be weak and fail to use the anchors. The laws of nature are strong, but the divine nature is much stronger; and that is why you must have it. It takes divine strength to use the anchors, and it takes divine wisdom and knowledge to use them at the right time. These precious anchors are both mine and yours, and we must never let our ships of life be without them.
Today, many people with sincere hearts don’t know how to cry out to God when their ship is about to hit the rocks because they have no anchors. Their ships are drifting toward the judgments of destruction, and they will soon be destroyed. Their lives are in jeopardy with every step they take because no one can get along in this world and have any real life without Jesus Christ.
When Jesus was here, He said, The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up (Matthew 4:16). But all people did not come to the light. There were those who rejected it just as people are doing today
We must have the vision of a lost and dying world and a burden for lost souls in this end-time hour. We must fast for lost souls just as Jesus intended us to when He said, This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21). We must weep the tears of Calvary and cry from our hearts, “Oh, God, give us the lost at any cost! We will pay the price. We are your servants, and you are the Master of our lives.” Then when He speaks, we go forth.
With the great courage God gives us, we cross the stormy seas to reach people. We find them in chaos because they don’t know their way, and multitudes are worshiping the devil; yet many so-called Christians have no burden for them when the Lord said, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). That is the love of God speaking; and when you have the four anchors, you will have that same compassion. If you don’t have it, you can’t possibly have the four anchors; so your ship is going to wreck, and what a crude awakening that will be!
Know the Truth
Some people claim to be ready for Heaven, but God is not ready for them because they are not right with Him. Of course, they would like to go and jump into that heavenly bed of ease; but those who want to get there their own way will never make it. The Bible says, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). When you don’t have the guiding light of the Spirit of God, you will never find Heaven because deceit brings defeat.
Other people say they don’t believe the Lord is coming in their day, but the Lord says they are without excuse. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). When Jesus came, He brought wisdom and knowledge from Heaven to change those living a life of sin into intelligent, living, walking epistles for Christ. Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart (II Corinthians 3:3).
You must know that there is nothing but the destruction of the devil out there in the night. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8). The devil puts many people in the jaws of death and in danger of judgments night and day. They don’t know when they may go down in the storm because they have no anchors and no real life, so many of them turn to drugs and alcohol while others go about satisfying every lust of the flesh. Many people have sold their souls to the devil for things that will become worthless when they leave this Earth because they cannot take any of it with them when they die.
Anchor Your Life in Christ
If you don’t have God’s anchors today, you must feel the hopelessness of being without them. If you have AIDS and are dying in sin, you have to come to God or you will remain lost in the night. AIDS is a terrible affliction, but hell is much worse; so you must know that you can be saved and healed.
The Lord will reach down right now if you want Him to and lift you out of the miry clay and establish your goings. Today is the day of salvation because tomorrow you may be too far gone. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (II Corinthians 6:2).
Sinner and Backslider, say this prayer right now: Oh, God, I know I don’t have the anchors, and I don’t want to be destroyed. Please, God, forgive me and save my soul! I know I have sinned against you, and I want your favor. I am so sorry for the way I have trampled the blood of Jesus underfoot. Oh, heavenly Father, forgive me now. I believe the blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in!
If you meant that prayer, say, Hallelujah, Jesus is mine! Then go on and reach for all the anchors. Accept the whole Bible and rightly divide the Word of God. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (II Timothy 2:15). The more you study the Word, the more favor of God you will have and the more revelations from Heaven you will receive.
Receive a Miracle
Now, it is healing time for your body, and you can receive healing for any disease or affliction. Lord, those who are dying with AIDS, cancer, heart trouble or any other deadly disease, heal them now. I bring you the deformed, little children, and I know you can make them whole. Those who have diabetes, heart trouble, lung trouble, leprosy, paralysis or any kind of sickness, heal them in the holy, blood name of Jesus. Heal!
The holy power of God is flowing to you now; be thou made well just as thousands of others have been. Then live for God and make sure you always have the four anchors to anchor your soul on the stormy seas of life. These anchors will keep you secure until you enter that heavenly haven of rest and are safe in the arms of the Lord for all eternity.
May God bless you today and make your life steady and complete as you use God’s divine anchors. I will see you in the Rapture!
