Sacrificing for Souls
by Ernest Angley
July 2014
Children of God must sacrifice for souls; and that very special love message must go forth to the whole world. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1). It is just our reasonable service to be living sacrifices for the Lord. I have been on many fasts that have gone as long as forty days, but I have never considered them to be an unreasonable sacrifice.
Jesus gave everything for lost souls. He laid aside His royal robe and crown and left His Father’s side. His seat in Heaven was empty because He had come to Earth on a divine mission—to save lost souls—and now, we are continuing that mission. However, we will never sacrifice for souls like we should until we understand what it takes to be a real Jesus soul winner. The Bible says, He that winneth souls is wise (Proverbs 11:30).
The Lord gloriously saved me when I was eighteen years of age, and I started winning souls right away because I had surrendered everything to Him. I had held nothing back, and I still don’t today because I know I was bought with a price; and you were, too. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (I Corinthians 6:19)? My life belongs to God and to whatever He can get out of it.
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s (I Corinthians 6:20). Who else would have paid such a price for us? Jesus held one soul in His left hand and another one in His right hand; and He said, What shall a man [or woman] give in exchange for his soul (Matthew 16:26)? If your soul was eternally lost, you would give anything for your soul to be in Heaven.
Be a Holy Ghost Witness
True children of God believe in truth; and Jesus said, Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).
Jesus told the disciples, Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8). We all must be witnesses for Christ, but we can’t make ourselves witnesses; we have to let the Lord make us witnesses through the power of the Holy Ghost.
A few weeks after I was saved, I received the glorious baptism of the Holy Ghost, power from On High, just as the disciples had received. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4). Notice it says, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
I do not believe in speaking in tongues at will because that is of the flesh and the devil. Many Pentecostal churches today teach that doctrine, but that does not make it right; and I never allow it in my services. The Holy Ghost is real, and it is so sad when people try to mimic Him. I often wonder what Bible they are reading because speaking in tongues at will is not the will of God.
Soul winners are wise, but you must know how to go about winning souls God’s way. You must have divine tact to make the right contact with people; and you must live close to God through prayer, fasting and living in the Word. That is the only way to be a Jesus soul winner.
The Lord told the prophet Daniel, And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever (Daniel 12:3). Soul winners will shine in God’s Kingdom forever and ever just like the stars shine at night now, but there can be no ego in winning souls. That is false pride, and it comes from the devil. Many preachers who could have been great soul winners have been ruined because they let ego take them over. Jesus had no ego even though He was the Son of God, and He came to make us sons and daughters of God, too. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12).
Live in Christ’s Faith and Love
When Jesus was here, His message was, “Follow thou me.” When He first called the disciples, He said, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men (Matthew 4:19). They were washing their fishing nets at that time, but they threw their nets aside and followed Him. Then they had to be taught the ways of the Lord, and they had to learn Jesus. He told them, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls (Matthew 11:29).
Jesus is love; but if we don’t have His love, we don’t have anything. You must study His love in I Corinthians 13. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [love], I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity [love], I am nothing (I Corinthians 13:1,2).
You could study for thousands of years and never learn all there is to know about Jesus; there has never been another personality like Him on Earth. He had with Him all the grace, salvation, joy, peace and righteousness we need. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith (Romans 1:17).
We must go from faith to faith, but most Christians go from faith to doubt and from faith to fear. The Bible also says, The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17). That means that the justified will live by faith, and that is the secret to having a great life. Jesus said, I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
Hebrews 11 tells of saints of God who lived by faith, and one of them mentioned there is Enoch. He pleased God in such a great way that the Lord took him to Heaven alive. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God (Hebrews 11:5).
This Is the Season
The Lord wants all people to hear His voice in this last hour; and when you are reading the Word, you are hearing the voice of God. When I pick up my Bible, I know I am hearing God’s voice as He speaks to me through His promises and with His love; and He will do that for you, too. “Whosoever will” throughout the Earth can come to Jesus and have the same love, the same Savior, the same God and go to the same Heaven; and we want everyone to make it to Glory.
We are on the verge of the soon coming of the Lord, and all the end-time signs are letting us know that this is the season. Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it [my coming] is near, even at the doors (Matthew 24:32,33). We will not know the day, the hour or the minute when Jesus will come; but He said we would know the season, and that season is now.
Most people on Earth today will live to see the second appearance of Christ, but only those who live close to God will make the one flight out. The night God saved my soul through the blood that stained the Old Rugged Cross, He rolled my burden of sin away and gave me a new burden that felt like a mountain—the burden for lost souls. A short time later, He called me to preach the Gospel and to win multitudes of souls for Him.
God told me that I had been marked in my mother’s womb for this hour. Out of seven children, I was the only one Mama almost died giving birth to; but God knew I would need her, and she always stood by me. She was my greatest prayer warrior when I began preaching, and I am still preaching the Gospel to the world today. I don’t like to travel, but I will do it for souls. I have told the Lord so many times to give me souls or let me die. I must win souls for the Lord.
Souls Are Worth the Price
The joy of what was going to be made available to lost souls was what kept Jesus going in the Garden of Gethsemane when He was suffering such agony that His sweat became as blood. And being in an agony he [Jesus] prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground (Luke 22:44). When Jesus was carrying the Cross, He did not back down because He had Heaven in view for you and me and for all who would accept God’s plan of salvation and redemption.
Jesus knew that all He was going through would be worth it one day when He would see you happy and living in a beautiful, heavenly mansion. He knew it would be worth it when He would see God’s great love handkerchief dry all of your tears so you would never cry again. He knew it would be worth it all because it would take every ache and pain from your body and enable you to live without having another sorrow or heartache. No one will ever hurt you again, and Heaven will be worth it all. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away (Revelation 21:4).
People who desire material things here on Earth will work and sacrifice for them for years, and parents will go without things they want or really need to be able to send their children to college because they love them. Many retired people spend money they have worked for and saved for years to buy that special home of their dreams even though they may have only a few years left on Earth. If people can make such sacrifices for material things, what should we be willing to do for the Lord who has so much in store for us?
We should say every day we have left on Earth, “Lord, I am yours, and I refuse to be discouraged about anything. I am going to walk like Jesus, act like Jesus and think like Jesus; and I am going to be blessed just like He was blessed because I am a child of God.”
We are sacrificing for the Lord and going through much now; but one day, there will be no more need to sacrifice, and everything will be pure joy. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Our morning will soon come; and we will be in that city whose builder and maker is God, a place where everybody is treated just right. We will not always be treated fairly down here, and everything will not always go right; but the Bible says, If we suffer [in His name], we shall also reign with him (II Timothy 2:12).
Obey the Lord
Throughout all these years, I have never asked God for money for myself; and I don’t preach for money. I only need money to get this Gospel to the world through radio, television, the printed page and the Internet. I don’t have a bank account here on Earth, but I have one in Heaven; and God always supplies my need.
When I got saved, I immediately started listening to the Lord and obeying Him. I was saved on a Sunday night; and the next Sunday morning, I gave my tithes and offerings to the Lord. They were very small, but nobody could have been prouder to give to the Lord than I was.
You give offerings to the Lord, but you pay Him your tithes. The Bible says, The tenth shall be holy unto the LORD (Leviticus 27:32). You will never prosper financially or in other ways unless you tithe and give to God. Many years ago, the Lord told me, “You are to preach tithing and giving to my people so I can prosper them spiritually, physically and financially.” If people will listen and obey, God will do that for them. He said, Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again (Luke 6:38).
Be Like Jesus
Being a good influence is a must in soul winning; but if you don’t live holy, you will never be a good witness for the Lord. You have to work like Jesus, walk like Jesus, live like Jesus, talk like Jesus and be everything that He was if you want to be a true son or daughter of the heavenly Father.
Losing control is not being a good influence on others around you, but some people think that everybody loses their temper. One of the nine fruits of the Spirit that Jesus brought for us is self-control, so those of you who are losing control will have to quit because it will get you into big trouble. I had a more ferocious temper than anybody else in my family, but the Lord didn’t take my temper away when He saved me; He turned it on the devil.
Jesus brought us nothing of this Earth; it was all divinity, so to be able to sacrifice to win souls, we must hide away with Him. Jesus would go to the mountains at all hours of the night and let the disciples sleep while He talked to the heavenly Father about lost humanity.
Jesus said that if we go into the prayer closet with Him in secret, He will bless us openly. When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly (Matthew 6:6). The Lord is drawing us to that secret place; and the Psalmist said, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1).
How long has it been since you prayed the night through or went on a long fast for the Lord? How long has it been since you shed tears for the lost? I am not talking about fake tears but real tears like the ones Jesus shed on His way to Calvary to give His life for you and me. Those were not salt and water tears but tears of compassion that came from the whole heart of Jesus. He went to Calvary with that love, and that is the first love He gives to each person who receives salvation and becomes a son or daughter of God.
When people have questions, I give them the Lord’s answers, not mine; and if you are walking with the Lord, you will have to do the same thing. In any situation, you must stop and ask yourself, “What would Jesus say? What would Jesus do?” You must be under the control of the Holy Spirit all the time, and you must be filled with God and emptied of self.
Use Divine Faith
It is time for children of God to seek His face. You cannot run around and be lighthearted with people day after day and win souls. I live with God in His anointings, and those anointings break all the yokes. As you hide away with the Lord and really seek His face, you will get those anointings, too. The yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing (Isaiah 10:27). How long has it been since you had the anointing of God day after day, week after week and month after month?
In the letter to the church at Ephesus, Jesus said, I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience (Revelation 2:2). That church did some wonderful works; however, we are not saved by works but by faith in the blood of Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9). You have to use the blood to get rid of sins; there is no other way.
In that same letter to the church at Ephesus, Jesus said, Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love (Revelation 2:4). When Jesus was here, He always called human love and faith “little love” and “little faith.” O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt (Matthew 14:31)?
Jesus never used “little faith”; He used divine faith, and one night, He used it to perform a great miracle for the disciples. They were expert fishermen, but they had fished all night long and caught nothing. Then Jesus told them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes (John 21:6).
In soul winning, we must cast our silver nets of the Gospel on the right side so we can bring in multitudes of souls; and some of them will be your very own family members. In our overseas crusade services, many people see the light for the very first time. They have never felt the warmth of Heaven until I hold the Gospel light right on them, and it melts their hard hearts. As they begin to yield, their eyes, their countenances and their voices begin to change; and they want to move in closer to the platform. It is worth every sacrifice to see them smile with heavenly sunshine, and you must help me shine the light of this Gospel upon people all over the world.
Live Free from Sin
To be a soul winner, you must get rid of all witchcraft, voodoo and darknesses of the devil. The Bible tells you that you will not go to Heaven with any of these things in you. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).
You have to get every bit of hate, envy and strife out of your spirit. You have to get rid of all sin because the Bible says, The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:4). You cannot cover up sin. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap (Galatians 6:7). When I lived on the farm as a boy, the kind of seed we sowed was what we reaped at harvest time; so Dad was very careful to plant only the best seed. As soul winners, we also must sow the right kind of seed all over the world.
When I take people to the mission field, I want only those who are truly consecrated and dedicated to the Lord, those who want to work for Jesus and who are sowing the right kind of seed. The Bible says, For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind (Hosea 8:7). We are not trying to reap the whirlwind; we are trying to help people find Jesus. We want to tell them the Gospel story over and over again.
The Lord lets me know things about people; and today, many people and even preachers sin and take part in the works of the flesh. There are times when I will shake hands with a person and the Lord will take me right into that person’s dead soul, and it is startling to see such a sight. It is awful to look into a human soul and actually see devils looking back at you, and that sight about killed me when I first received the gift of discerning of spirits.
I never asked God for even one of the nine gifts of the Spirit, but He chose me to receive all of them. When the Lord first started discerning through me, it felt like I had cords tied to the devils that were in people; and when I would cast them out, I could feel them clawing the insides of the person who was being delivered. It felt like I was pulling them out; but now I speak, and the devils are helpless. They come out in bunches at a time, and they are glad to get away because I use the blood to cast them out. I will stand on the platform and see devils going out of people like defeated armies.
Jesus said, And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17,18). I take a fresh anointing for every one of my services, and I never have a healing line without the angel of the Lord standing by my side. The Lord gave him to me, and he stands as tall as a man; and he will tell me many things about people.
The Spirit of God will come into my eyes, and it feels like they are floating in their sockets. Then all I know is that I can see inside of people like God sees; and I can watch people being cleansed of cancer, AIDS and other deadly diseases. I can see God’s divine power moving as He creates and re-creates different organs and parts of people’s bodies. Doctors will even send patients to me when they have no more help for them.
Paul Was Ready to Be Used
The Apostle Paul was a great soul winner, and no one except Jesus ever paid a bigger price than he did. In his last letter to Timothy, Paul said, For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing (II Timothy 4:6-8). Paul was ready to give his life, and he died for the sake of Christ.
That must be a good feeling when you know you have won the last soul that the Lord had marked for you, and you are ready to go home. Paul was going to make one last sacrifice—he was going to give his physical life. He was ready to offer it on Nero’s chop block as a witness to the power and greatness of God.
I am sure Paul walked out boldly that day and with great joy because he told Timothy, “I am now ready.” He was saying, “Don’t weep because there is a crown waiting for me.” Yes, Paul knew that Heaven would be worth it all; and he could have easily said, “I have suffered all kinds of persecutions and been locked away in dirty cells for many years, but I was the Lord’s prisoner. God proved to me in Philippi that He could open the doors any time He wanted to. Men may have thought I was their prisoner, but God was my keeper. The Lord wanted me to be shut away with only Him so He could pour through me so many wonderful books of the Bible.”
Just think of the millions of people who will be in Heaven because of the price Paul paid. He has been in Heaven for nearly 2000 years, but I am sure the Lord has made everything up to him many times over already.
Quit crying and pitying yourself because you are on your way to a city whose builder and maker is God. Set your eyes on the goal and keep running, and never let anything stop you. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1).
When the devil is coming against you with all his power, say as Paul did, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:13). In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us (Romans 8:37).
Paul knew that nothing could ever separate him from the love of God. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38,39).
The Lord has used Paul’s life to bring me to where I am in the Lord today. I never thought about being a prophet of God, but God called me His prophet; and He wants me to call myself His prophet, and He performs signs and wonders through my life. There can be thousands of people in my crusade services, but God will take me inside of people who may be at the back of the crowd; and He will let me know what kind of life they have lived.
As we travel, I see preachers who are so restless during the services; and they stand around talking instead of listening. How can they do that when I am so burdened for lost souls? It is because they don’t have the burden or the vision to win the lost at any cost, and it is causing souls to perish. I thank God that Grace Cathedral is a church that carries a burden for the mission field all the time, and some of our young people will sacrifice for a whole year to save enough money to travel with me on just one mission trip.
Miracles Are Real
The people at my church fast at least one meal every week for our weekend services that draw people from all over the world, and many of those people can stay for just one service. One Friday evening, a man from the Fiji Islands came to a service with his baby who was born blind. It had cataracts that were thicker than anything I had ever seen before, but I knew God would heal it. The man had spent many hours getting to that service, but it was worth it when his baby was healed. After returning home, he sent a letter to me with a picture of his baby, who could then see.
In one of my crusade services, I prayed for a young, crippled man in the invalid section who was on crutches; and I told him, “Get up and walk!” I continued on through the rest of that large section; and when I had finished praying for the people, I passed back by that man, and he was not using his crutches anymore. He had decided to use his faith and do what the man of God had told him to, and he was so happy to be walking. I treasure those miracles; they are worth every sacrifice we make.
I love to pray for people who have diseases that medical science has no cure for because the Lord gets all of the glory from those miracles. Jesus even healed sinners when He was here, but He told them to go and sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee (John 5:14). Jesus said that to a man who had been a cripple for thirty-eight years when He had healed him at the pool of Bethesda saying, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked (John 5:8,9).
Jesus Brought Healing for All
Read about the many great miracles recorded in the Bible. Why would you ever say you believe in Jesus Christ and not believe in His wonderful works? Why will you remain afflicted with any disease when Jesus paid the price for your healing? Jesus went to the whipping post where cruel soldiers beat Him nearly to death, but He gave His blood willingly. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5).
Peter told of how Jesus paid the price for our salvation and our healing. Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed (I Peter 2:24). Jesus was the salvation for our souls and the Sacrificial Lamb for our bodies, and His sacrifice brought healing from Heaven for the whole person.
Medical science has not found the cure for AIDS, but God can take it away. In one of our crusade services, a grandmother brought her granddaughter who was deathly ill with AIDS. The service was long because I was ministering to many people, so she decided that she needed to get her granddaughter home. The field was fenced in; and as she was walking out of the gate, the Lord suddenly stopped her and used me to discern her case. God healed that woman’s granddaughter, but she had almost missed that miracle. People will wait hours and hours for a doctor, but they do not have much patience to wait upon the Lord.
The Lord has let me see AIDS inside and outside of people’s bodies, and I have never seen a disease like it. It is no wonder that medical science cannot find the cure because it is the biggest and most ferocious disease my eyes have ever beheld through the Spirit of God, but the Lord works with people to deliver them from AIDS. One man said he was standing in the congregation in one of my crusade services, and he felt a cool breeze go through his whole body. Then he felt a warm breeze take over, and he was made completely whole. The Gospel must be confirmed with signs, wonders, miracles and healings.
A Jubilee Time
Jesus said He came to Earth to preach the acceptable year of the Lord (Luke 4:19). What is the acceptable year of the Lord? Study the Old Testament, and you will see that every fiftieth year was the year of Jubilee. All slaves were set free, and everybody’s debts were forgiven.
When Jesus came, He brought the acceptable year of the Lord for us—freedom from all sin. That is the will of the Lord for people who will accept His Son as Lord, Master and Savior.
We are living in an age of freedom where every year is a deliverance year, so we should sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord. Never sing one of the Lord’s good Gospel songs or hymns unless you mean it from the innermost part of you. I am blessed when I sing to the Lord in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19).
The Lord told us what godly music is, but some so-called Christians will sing and listen to anything. Many churches today even allow what they call Gospel rock, but there is no such thing because rock music is the devil’s beat. The devil can make plenty of noise; and even though noise may be the result of God’s power at times, that noise is not the power of God.
I grew up in the jitterbug age; and when I was in sin, I loved the dance floor and the world’s music. However, when I got saved, the Lord took all of that out of me. Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).
Be a Happy Worker
I never thought I could be happy as a child of God; but when I became one, I found that I had never had real happiness after all—I just thought I had. True happiness comes only through Lord God Almighty, and that is why one of the fruits of the Spirit is joy.
I see so many unhappy Christians, and they are not witnesses for the Lord. They act like old-time salvation has made them miserable, but Jesus showed great, divine happiness when He came to Earth. If you are a child of God, you should be happy because the Bible declares that our future is just as bright as the promises of God. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature (II Peter 1:4). When you think about your future, what does it hold? It should be bright because Jesus brought the light for our future. Jesus said, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12). That light is for the Lord’s godly children who keep His love commandments just like Jesus kept the Father’s love commandments when He was on Earth.
True children of God are happy when they are working for souls. At my church, it is a love work; and my people never expect to be paid for everything they do. My first cathedral was built through love, and most of the labor was donated; but many preachers expect everything to be handed to them on a platter. They are not willing to sacrifice for souls, but I thought we were supposed to love souls above everything else in the world. Jesus said, This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come (Matthew 24:14).
God’s Ways Are Perfect
When the Lord told me that I was to establish a work for Him in Akron, Ohio, He called it a divine mission; and He had never mentioned a mission of divinity to me before. I thought my wife, Angel, and I would establish a good church, arrange for a good preacher to take care of it and then travel around the world for Jesus; but it didn’t turn out that way.
We obeyed the Lord and built our cathedral in Akron’s Springfield Township, and every service we had was a great one in the Lord. God’s miracles were drawing people; souls were coming to God, and people were being baptized in the power of the Holy Ghost. We were happily working for Jesus, and I have been preaching and teaching in Akron ever since.
Jesus delighted in the Lord throughout His ministry, and so have I. The Bible says, Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart (Psalm 37:4). My desire is to win the lost at any cost; and that was Angel’s desire, too, until the Lord suddenly took her home. He could have healed her, but that was not His will. After she was gone, God visited with me and told me that she would win more souls by Him taking her to Heaven than if He had left her with me. I told Him, “Lord, if I have ever believed you, I have to believe you now.” I did not claim to understand why the Lord took her home, but I knew it was God’s will.
After she had been gone about six weeks, I opened her Bible; and I found these words on the flyleaf: “The way of the Lord is perfect.” It was just as if she was talking to me from the grave saying, “Honey, it was God’s divine will for me to go when I did.” That was yet another confirmation that it had been God’s will to take her home.
Angel and I were in the habit of sacrificing for souls. The morning star and the guiding star of our lives was Jesus; and that was why the Rose of Sharon really bloomed for us, and the Lord gave us so many souls. After our revival services, we would stay all hours praying with people at the altar because many times, the pastors would be talking and laughing rather than working at the altar. Angel and I couldn’t do that when there were souls who needed people to pray for them, and we would stay until the very end helping to pray people through to the Holy Ghost.
God’s children must always be on duty to help sinners get saved and to pray people through to the good Holy Ghost. A church that is really strong in the Lord has good altar services; and at Grace Cathedral, we have great altar calls at the end of every service.
Spiritual Fruit Must Be Manifested
Think about the fruits of the Spirit and the sacrifices needed to have those fruits. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22,23). What kind of fruit do you dine on? You must have good, spiritual fruit, and the Lord told me it was greater than all of nature’s fruit that was in Eden. Eden’s fruit was perfect; but it did not have the strength, love and power that are found in the divine fruit. For the joy of the LORD is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
Divine fruit only comes to us through sacrificial offerings unto the Lord—giving of our time to work for Jesus, volunteering to be a blessing to others and going forth to invite people to church. All of those things are rewarding, and the Lord honors them. The Bible says, Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33).
In this Jesus ministry, we see all of the fruits of the Spirit and all of the greatness of the gifts of the Spirit in evidence in our services. It is wonderful to watch the nine gifts of the Holy Ghost in operation, but it takes close living and holding on to God for that to happen.
Soul Winning Requires Consecration
When Jesus was here, the disciples wanted to know why they could not cast a devil out of a boy. And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:20,21).
Jesus said that the only way Heaven’s power could go forth to work on Earth was through prayer, fasting and living in the Word; and that is why this ministry is a fasting ministry. Any good medical doctor will tell you that it is good for you to fast if you drink plenty of water.
For many years, I would get to the place on a long fast where I could hardly drink water. Then not too long ago, the Lord came to me during a long fast and said, “When you drink your water, think about drinking from the river of life in Heaven.” Then the light of God came upon my drinking vessel twice. After that, I could drink water, and my stomach would feel full just as if I had eaten a meal; and the water tasted delicious.
Jesus fasted; and after His fast that was recorded in Luke 4, He received the mighty anointing for soul winning. Jesus stood strong in the greatness and in the anointing of God; and He declared, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18). Jesus never turned anybody away.
Jesus is our big brother, and He always met the devil head-on with the Word. The apostles did, too, and the Word increased after they had received the Holy Ghost. And the word of God increased (Acts 6:7). The Bible also says, But the word of God grew and multiplied (Acts 12:24). When you sow the right kind of seed, the harvest multiplies.
God’s Power Can Raise the Dead
The Gospel message never gets old to me. I get excited over the messages of love God gives me, and many souls are being turned to the Lord. You cannot just shake the preacher’s hand to find salvation; you have to be born again and stop lying, committing lustful acts, using dirty words, drinking strong drink and living together before marriage. You must turn away from all sin.
People like to point out the fact that Jesus turned water into wine; but if they would take the time to study that miracle, they would find out that it was not fermented wine but sweet wine; and sweet wine will not make you drunk. The Lord performed all kinds of miracles, and He even turned death into life; but it was no greater of a miracle when He raised Lazarus from the dead than when He turned the water into wine.
As God has poured out His power, the dead have been raised in this ministry, too. We have witnesses to the fact that two of our godly men made it into Heaven, but God sent them back to us. One of the men had suffered a severe heart attack, and the nurse on duty at the time said that he had no pulse or sign of life for twenty minutes; however, we prayed all night long, and God raised him up.
God’s power is miraculous in any form, but you have to use it like He wants it to be used. You cannot decide that you want to keep your loved ones here forever because God wants to take some of His children home, so you must always pray for the will of God. When you do that, you can say as Jesus did, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always (John 11:41,42).
Souls Need Us
Soul saving is the greatest business this side of Heaven. We are called of God to win the lost, and He has marked people all over the world for us to win. We have to get to them or help send others to them because the most important part of serving God is to help others find salvation and get their passport to Heaven. We must sacrifice for souls and win the lost all over the world.
The Lord gave me a vision of souls when I was about eight years of age, but I didn’t know God had anything to do with it at the time. My bed went flying out the window with me on it, and I was surrounded by millions of stars. When it was over, I didn’t know what had happened. Had my bed actually gone out the window? Had I really been way up in the stars? Was it a vision or living reality? I didn’t know, but I could not get away from that vision; and I could not share it with one soul.
Much later, after I had started my ministry and moved to Akron, God let me know what that vision had been about. I was praying in my living room one day when suddenly, the roof went off of my living room; and I cried out, “I have seen this sight before!” Then God said, “The stars represent the souls that you are to win for me.” I finally knew that it had been God who had taken me out in the stars that night. It changed my life so completely to know that God would honor my life with such a mark. Since then, this ministry has touched millions of people through the power of God; and He gets all of the praise, the honor and the glory.
I can never praise the Lord enough for people who carry the same burden for souls that I carry. The Lord is sending us forth to set the captives free with the blood and the fire of the Holy Ghost, and our souls are alive with that fire. John the Baptist said, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire (Matthew 3:11).
In the Lord’s greatness and power, we must live and have our being. For in him we live, and move, and have our being (Acts 17:28). Dare to stand alone like Daniel did and to be all that God wants you to be. Dare to have a purpose for your life from Heaven and to make it known.
We are coming to the end of our race, and we must set our sights on spiritual things—souls coming to the Lord, Holy Ghost revelations and God’s prophecies being fulfilled. We are going into the greatness of God; and we must be in one mind, one will and one accord with the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. The Lord wants to give His children fellowship, unity and love. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another (John 13:35).
No Sin in Heaven
If you are a sinner or a backslider today, you must hate your old self who is full of sin. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit hate sin; and the Bible says that God cannot look upon sin. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13). That means He cannot look favorably on one speck of willful sin in your life or mine.
Many ministers preach that everybody sins, but the reason they do is because they sin. They are trying to make side doors into Heaven, but you cannot do that. Jesus said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber (John 10:1). The Bible declares that without holiness or righteousness, you will never see the face of God. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
Backslider, you once knew the Lord and were re-created in the righteousness and holiness of God; but now, you are contaminated through and through. If you are not careful, the Lord said your latter state will be worse than the beginning. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first (Matthew 12:43-45).
Sinner, you are in grave danger. You are living in the darkness of this old world of sin when just above is the sunlight of Heaven’s glory. John the Baptist said, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world (John 1:29). Behold our Lamb, the light of the world and the One who brought us victory and set us free from all sin. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin (I John 1:7). Then Jesus gave us power to stay free from sin, and He proved it by always living free from sin when He was here. Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth (I Peter 2:21,22).
Take Jesus into Your Heart
Oh, God, as we sacrifice for souls, help sinners to come to you! This message can never end as long as one lost soul is on Earth and the message of Calvary is crying, “Whosoever will, let him come!” We must lift up our voices, Children of God, as one voice that reaches to the ends of the Earth to declare that the second appearance of the Lord is about to take place. Soon the cry will go forth, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him (Matthew 25:6). The Bride will meet Jesus in midair; but for you who are left behind in the night, there will be only darkness, hate and fear like you have never known before.
Don’t die lost in sin; come to Jesus today. Say this prayer right now: Oh, God, I am lost. I am in the night; but you said if I would confess all of my sins, you would forgive me. I believe that the blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in!
True salvation is heartfelt, and it comes through faith in the power and the blood of Jesus Christ. Divine feelings go with it, but it is a salvation of faith. There are people who talk about taking things by faith, but they are the ones who just give mental assent to things and never really receive. They will say that people can take the Holy Ghost by faith; but when you are only giving mental assent to it, you will not receive the baptism of God’s power and anointing.
Jesus Wants to Heal You
I went to death’s door at twenty-three years of age, and I thought for sure I was going to die. I watched my body go down to about a skeleton, and there was a time when I thought I would only live for two or three more days. Then one great night, Jesus came. He did not send an angel; He came Himself and healed me all over. Later, He reminded me, “I healed you of everything.” That was nearly seventy years ago, and my miracle has lasted all of these years.
When Jesus was here, He did not heal a person of just one disease; He healed them of everything. He would ask, Wilt thou be made whole (John 5:6)? That meant, “Do you will to be well?” You who are reading this message, do you believe it is the will of the Lord for you to be well? Will you believe God and His Word, or will you let doubt take over when you have another pain and then listen to the devil say, “You are not healed”? Will you give the Lord all the glory if He heals you?
Millions of people have been delivered through this Jesus world outreach ministry, and all the glory goes to God. I have never taken one speck of His glory because I believe Him, and I know it is His power that heals. As I am praying for people, I will go into one vision after another and watch in living reality as God heals them of deadly diseases.
Learn Jesus the Healer and Jesus the Savior and know that without Him, we are nothing. That is why He brought divinity, and His table is loaded with it. If you need a miracle for AIDS and you got it through sin, you cannot go back into sin anymore. If you do, you will die with AIDS, saith the Lord.
Jesus is ready to make you whole, but you cannot doubt. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord (James 1:6,7).
Receive a Miracle
You can be healed today of AIDS or of any disease for which there is no cure through medical science. We love good doctors and embrace true medical science; but when man has done all he can do, God can do the rest. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up (James 5:15). The Lord is healing people today; and He gets all the praise, the honor and the glory.
Lord, I bring the sick and afflicted to you. Heal! in the blessed name of Jesus. Heal each little one and set them free. Re-create the brains of those who have just part of a brain as you have done for so many. Lord, you are so wonderful! You are so great! You are indeed the Bright and Morning Star of our lives. You are the Rose of Sharon on our mountaintops, and you are the Lily in all our valleys who turns our valleys into mountains!
If you have any more pain, decide they are false symptoms like the book of Jonah tells you about. They that observe lying vanities [false symptoms] forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving (Jonah 2:8,9). Jonah was in the belly of the whale with seaweed wrapped around his neck, but he declared his miracle and held onto it. No case is too hard for the Lord. For with God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37).
You must decide that you are going to be well and healthy, and then watch yourself get well. Tell yourself, “I got a miracle, and I am going to keep it. I will go back to the doctor to get it verified; and no matter what he says, I will keep going back until he says I am healed.”
God bless you today. Write and let us know about the miracles you have received through this Jesus ministry. Do miracles last? Yes, if you treat them right they do, but you cannot sin anymore. Thank God for your miracle and be careful to always praise Him for it because He did it. I am not a healer; I am just God’s witness, and I tell people about the Healer, Jesus! I say that name, and the blind get their sight; the deaf hear, and the lame walk and leap for joy. It is all so wonderful!
This is a sacrificial message taken from the Word of God. Sacrifice your life to bring in the end-time harvest; and you will rejoice when the Master says, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joys of the Lord.”
