Our Secret Weapon in Action
by Ernest Angley
October 1987
The anointing of God, our Secret Weapon in action, changes people; it changes circumstances—the Secret Weapon that Jesus gave to the disciples and to us. Jesus told the disciples—human beings just like us—that they could use the anointing as He used it. These words of Jesus are recorded in John 14:12, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. The greater works will be done through the anointing.
What more can we expect when we use this anointing, this Secret Weapon? Jesus goes on to tell us in verses 13 and 14, And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it (John 14:13,14). But the Lord cannot move for us unless we love Him and keep His commandments, praying according to His will. Otherwise His anointing will go unused.
Jesus promises the disciples in verse 16, And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever (John 14:16). That Comforter is the Holy Ghost who will come to live and dwell in each one who will let Him in, bringing with Him the Secret Weapon of God’s anointing.
By taking on human form, Christ limited Himself. Walking as a man, Jesus could not be everywhere at one time, but today through the miracle power of the Holy Ghost He can be. It’s a wonderful thought. Our Secret Weapon, the anointing that Christ brought, is available to destroy all bondage for whosoever will call.
The Anointing Breaks the Yoke
God revealed the power of the Secret Weapon to His prophet Isaiah. The yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing (Isaiah 10:27). This verse will mean much to you if you let it penetrate deeply into your heart day after day—the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing.
Today through the anointing of God there are many yokes that can be broken. Is your yoke greater than you can bear? Do not give up in discouragement and despair; but look to the Lord, knowing that the yoke will be broken because of the anointing, your Secret Weapon in action. The anointing of the Lord has become a fabulous instrument in the hands of yielded vessels today. And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh (Acts 2:17). His Spirit IS the anointing of God.
Acts 10:38 tells us that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Through the Holy Ghost Jesus received His measureless anointing to break every yoke. As the divine Son of God, Jesus lacked no anointing; but as the Son of man, He needed the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Why? Jesus, in taking on the form of man, had limited Himself. He had come to show man how to get into God, how to enter that most Holy place where the Spirit would flow without measure.
Grieve Not the Holy Spirit
Let nothing remain in your life that would hinder the anointing of God—no grudges, no hard feelings, no sin in any form. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God (Ephesians 4:30). Carrying resentment in your heart builds a wall between you and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is grieved. You’re walking with a grieved, miserable Holy Spirit in your life. Your attitude has tied His hands. He will stay for a time, waiting, dealing tenderly with you, trying to show you what you are doing to yourself, that you are behaving like a disobedient child and making the Secret Weapon powerless in your life.
Wake up to the deceit of ego. Who are you—what are you—that God is so mindful of you? You think you have cause to be vengeful, that you have really been wronged? Stop and think of the many times you have wronged God. You have no right to destroy the anointing by your hurtful attitudes. The anointing has been given to you to break the yoke for you and for others. That anointing, your Secret Weapon, is there to help liberate the multitudes and bring in the harvest of souls in this final hour. You have no right to rob Heaven, no right to rob God, no right to be a spiritually crippled Christian in this army of the Lord. The Holy Spirit is spending time trying to work out your hurts and grudges when you, in turn, should be working with sinners to bring them to God. He shouldn’t have to spend time with you when you could be helping yourself by yielding to Him. How grieved the Holy Spirit is when you hold to hurts that block Him in your life!
Why do you feel justified when you are grieving the Holy Spirit? Because you are not giving yourself over to the anointing of God and it cannot work through your life in a great way. You have hindered the operation of the Secret Weapon in your life, causing it to be wasted. Jesus said that when you are persecuted to not fight back…but you’re fighting. You’re even fighting your brothers and sisters in the Lord. Two wrong people will never make a right. You are destroying the anointing that could break your yoke, and the Spirit is grieved. You have a yoke of bondage that has been set on your own shoulders by your own doing, your own mistakes. You have acted outrageously, said the wrong thing; now you are not justified in the eyes of God. Were the Rapture to take place, you would be left.
You pout, refuse to speak, blow up…this isn’t a time for you to “speak your piece”; it’s a time for the Holy Spirit to have your tongue to speak the truths of God through you. It isn’t a time to harbor a hurt spirit—a hurt spirit is in no condition to allow the Holy Spirit to flow out to anyone. Grieve not the Holy Spirit!
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). In this final hour, the Spirit of God will cover the earth with His living water as the waters cover the sea. Through the lives of His children, God is pouring forth these living waters. As we yield to Him we become His vessels, learning the importance of His Secret Weapon in action. Through our faith and love He will rain His Spirit down from the skies.
God seeks to place you where He can use you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you (John 15:16).
You are special because the Holy Spirit has spent so much time making you so, so much time preparing you to use your Secret Weapon. If you are separated from the world, it is the anointing that breaks the yoke.
Clothe yourself in the righteousness of God. Be rid of the critical, cynical tongue, the hurtful words. Let the Holy Spirit anoint your ears so you can hear what the Spirit is saying. Heed, listen to the Holy Spirit.
The Hour of the Anointing of the Spirit
The anointing of God is able to break your yokes, but you must be humble and obedient to the Word of God. The anointing can break your yoke of depression. The mental spirits that have yoked you in…that yoke will be broken by the Spirit of God, thus saith the Lord to His people today. No yoke can keep my people in bondage. But my people will go forth, liberated in this final hour, those who will trust in the name of their Lord and go forth with the anointing of their Lord.
This is the hour of the anointing of the Spirit. It is not a time to baby yourself, to act childishly. Be mature in the Spirit of God. Paul said, When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things (I Corinthians 13:11). Be ready for the meat of the Word, the greatness of God, the powerful Secret Weapon.
“Be Not Afraid of Their Faces…”
You have the anointing of God to break the yoke of hurt feelings. When words come that could put you into bondage, when people intimidate you unfairly, let the anointing break the yoke. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD (Jeremiah 1:8). Speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them (verse 17). The anointing made Jeremiah a defensed city, an iron pillar; the anointing stood between him and the hard words against him. It was his Secret Weapon.
So what if people tongue-lash you? So what if you are subjected to hurtful innuendoes? You have the anointing of God. You have the tool to break the yoke. Don’t let the Spirit of God be bound in you; break that yoke with the anointing of God.
You can be bound with the spirit of people unless you have on the whole armor of God. No man’s words can penetrate the armor of God. Stand like a mighty soldier; don’t run in fright. You have nothing to run from when the anointing of God is in your life; you have nothing to fear, nothing to worry about. Cast your cares on God because He cares for you. Let the thought of “nothing to fear, nothing to worry about” condition your mind for this hour. When you’re yoked down with fear and worry, you are not using your Secret Weapon.
Feel His Love in Your Lonely Hours
The disciples watched Jesus. Before you learn how to use your Secret Weapon you must watch Jesus first of all. Jesus must become a living reality to you, more real than the people around you. Feel the touch, the love, the faith of Him and receive His wisdom and truth through the anointing. Anytime you need extra love, turn to Him saying, “Jesus, love me,” and then feel His arms around you, drawing you close. In your lonely hours, in the hours it seems darkness is closing in, ask for His love. He will not bathe you in His love in a great way unless you ask and believe. Use your Secret Weapon to draw on Him. For many years I failed to understand why God didn’t move in closer, and then He taught me how to let Him in. When I opened my arms to Him, He was ready to receive me. No matter how much someone loves you, that one cannot come into unopened arms. Open your arms for the Lord to come to you. You may tell Jesus that He is wonderful and yet not open your arms for His love. When you open your arms it shows that your heart is wide open too. Cry, “Jesus, love me!” and He will love you.
Some of you never stop to get His love. You’re looking, searching for love; you’re so lonely, so depressed, thinking, “Oh, if I only had someone who really loved me!” You do. Why keep wishing for love? You have it! Jesus is your source of love; He will give you the love you need and more. Open up to Jesus, and through the anointing He will give you so much love that you will feel truly loved.
His love brings a wonderful soothing, erases loneliness. Jesus can put marvelous love into your heart, love that flows like a mighty river. He heals the hurt for that moment, dries the tears; but it’s a love you must keep calling for.
In my hours of distress and despair I cry, “Jesus, come and love me! Oh, Jesus, I have to have you!” I don’t speak those words with one shadow of doubt; I don’t speak them as one who is going to wait an hour for Him to come. He knows that I believe He’ll come the very minute I call. I don’t call until I feel the need of His extra help. Through the power of the Holy Spirit He comes to love me.
After my wife Angel died, I learned so forcefully that as long as I would be crying my heart out He couldn’t love me. I was too involved in my own sorrow; my heart was wrapped up in my despair. But when I would come to myself, when I could bear no more, when it seemed as though I couldn’t even breathe any longer, then I would turn and He would be there, just waiting for me to open my arms. He would put His arms around me and with tear dimmed eyes I would say, “Jesus, love me.” It was a most marvelous experience, the greatest relationship!
The Lord’s Yoke Is Light
The Lord taught me how to receive His love, and He is moving on me to teach others. He wants you to be able to creep into His arms and experience His great love. He must be real to you; you’re carrying too much of the yoke that isn’t yours. You’re carrying too much bondage that isn’t yours to carry, thus saith the Lord. Child, it isn’t yours! The Lord wants to lift those unnecessary burdens and to break all the yokes. Some of you think you are carrying burdens for the Lord, and they are not burdens of the Lord at all. They are yokes of the enemy, yokes of your own people, yokes of your own making. You’re yoked in bondage.
You can be yoked in by emotional manipulation: “If you love me, you will do this. If you love me you wouldn’t go to church so much.” These yokes must be broken if you want the anointing of God to flow in your life, if you want the reality of the love of Jesus. God can show you how those yokes may be broken without destroying the person who holds you in bondage. Love does not yoke a person in. The Lord never puts a miserable yoke on you. Jesus said, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:29,30). Then in Galatians 5:1 we read, Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
You do not feel you are in bondage when you have the great anointing of God, but without that great anointing you feel yoked. God’s yoke is one of sweetness, greatness. When the yoke turns to bondage, it’s because you do not have the anointing of God, and self wants to be in control. Self takes all the ammunition out of your Secret Weapon. Self—indulging self—can become a horrible bondage. Self wants the things of the world; self is intrigued with sin, with the works of Lucifer that satisfy the flesh for a season but destroy the soul for eternity.
This is the hour when all the yokes for God’s people must be broken, crieth the Spirit of the Lord today. The Lord is seeking to break all your yokes so you will be free to do His holy work, that your mind will be free to receive the greatness of God, the wisdom of Him, the knowledge, the joy of Him, the hope of Heaven. This is the hour of the greatness of God. This greatness, this Secret Weapon is being offered to you as an individual. It is a different walk, more than the dedicated walk: this is the walk of perfect obedience.
Receiving through Giving
What has been placed in your hands? No matter how insignificant it is, with the anointing of God it will be used as a powerful weapon in this final hour. Whatever you have God is going to use in many ways—if you yield it to Him.
You who are supporting this great world-wide outreach, you are like the little boy who gave his loaves and fishes to be multiplied under the anointing of God. Your loaves and fishes are spiritually feeding multitudes of people. You’re turning over your little basket, your few loaves and fishes. The devil may tell you that you will starve, you’re giving away everything. But there will be plenty for you. The little boy gave his whole basket, keeping nothing for himself. Through his giving he was filled to capacity; and everyone else had plenty, too. In this final hour you who are obedient to the call of God will have many miracles to tell about. Obedience to God brings the Secret Weapon of His anointing.
This is the hour of the journey into God’s greatness, of knowing Jesus Christ in living reality. If you don’t know Him, you must.
Many, many hours I have stayed at His feet with tears, with thirst and hunger for Him, wanting Him more than I wanted anything else. “Oh Lord, I must have the revelation of Jesus Christ. I must know Him; I must know Him in His sufferings, in the power of His Resurrection. I must know the anointing of Him. I must know Him in His wisdom and knowledge. I must know the faith of Him, the touch of Him, the mind of Him. To have all of Him, I had to give Him all of myself. “Take the whole world, but give me Jesus!” When you know Him in those ways, then you can go forth in the power of the Spirit, in His anointing and see His Secret Weapon in action.
Prayer, Fasting and Living in the Word Bring the Anointing
Jesus was anointed by the Holy Ghost. When He cried on that day after His long fast, He hath anointed me (Luke 4:18), what was He saying? This anointing goeth forth through prayer, fasting and living in God’s Word. I’m showing you how a man can get this anointing from God, not how a god can get it, but a man. I’m showing you how a man can be so in touch with God that He can say, “Father, you always hear me!”
Thanks be to God! He hears us, and we know that He hears. We are not walking a dark path; the light of God’s glory shines upon us. God has wrapped Himself in His glory for us in this final hour. In the light of the Holy Spirit He shows us the things that we must do.
Many years ago He wrapped Himself in a cloud to reveal Himself to a people who had lost their way. He wrapped Himself in a pillar of fire by night; but thank God, He has come to wrap us today in His glory through the power of the Holy Ghost who lives and dwells within us! How marvelous are the ways of God for this final hour!
We hold His hands; we walk and talk with Him. He belongs to us and we to Him. We are all His and He is ours. We need not be afraid. Why make room in your heart for fear? God didn’t plan a place in your heart for that, but for His love and His faith.
Now He is bringing us into the secret chambers of the Most High. The Holy Spirit is reaching for us, leading us and saying, “Come on child, this is the door, the door of humility. You must stoop very, very low to go through. You will have to deny self, for this door is so narrow that all of self must be shed off before you can get through (Matthew 16:24). Down on our knees we crawl into the Secret Place of the Most High.
The Lord is standing by you today. You may feel forsaken, you may wonder why you have to go through so much hardship, but walk with the grace of God. Let your head be crowned with His graces. By His holy power, by the might of His Spirit, go forth to do battle with the enemy. You have a Secret Weapon. That anointing will break the bondage for you, whatever it is. You can’t think right; you can’t keep your mind adjusted to the things of God? That yoke can be broken. Pray, fast and live in the Word of God.
He Makes the Worthless Worthwhile
With the anointing of the Lord upon us, we walk like Jesus in the power of the Spirit. We remember when Christ first demonstrated our Secret Weapon by turning water into wine. Now He is saying once again, “Fill up the water pots to the brim.” He is crying this to His servants today—you and me—it’s our business to fill the water pots because we have the Miracle Worker in our midst. Prepare for the miracle; Jesus is here. He is ready to change lives. Fill the water pots to the brim; hurry, hurry! The Master has come! What is He going to do? Something great and mighty; He will make the worthless worthwhile, change the valueless into the valuable. Get ready; He is the changing Changeless Christ. He touches the blind and they receive their sight, the crippled are made to walk. He is Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Living One, the One who can break all the yokes for you.
The Anointing Can Break Any Yoke
You may be bound with drugs or alcohol or other things that destroy, but He can break your bondage. Whatever your yoke, the anointing of God can break it. He has broken the yokes for others, and the Holy Spirit will break that yoke for you if you throw yourself on Him in complete trust and love.
You who have not been liberated to live this victorious life daily: it’s time to rise up in the power of the Spirit and know that God is God. It’s time to rise up in the Spirit, saying, “Lord, here am I. I have fasted, I have prayed, I have lived in your Word—and now the anointing of the Lord is upon me because He hath anointed me. He hath anointed me to do the work of a man called Jesus. He said, The works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do (John 14:12). The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.”
You’re God’s Secret Weapon
We must have the fiery tongue of the Holy Spirit in this final hour and the Holy Spirit dwelling within. Then the Holy Spirit will go forth as we speak, binding many forces that we don’t know are being bound. When you have the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the anointing of God, you’re helping to bind spirits rebelling against God. The devil possessed are being directed to look toward God—and you’re not even mentioning God to them. The anointing, the Secret Weapon is working. The anointing of the Holy Spirit in your spirit is moving on them; the anointing in your voice as you talk to them is reaching out.
In ordinary conversation, the Holy Spirit is using you. You have become an instrument of God. You have received that Secret Weapon and without fully realizing it have become God’s great Secret Weapon. You are being used by God in a fantastic way. When you speak to someone on the phone, that Spirit, that anointing in your life is going forth to help liberate. If that person will yield, you have a part in the liberation. Some of you don’t realize this, but the Lord is revealing Himself unto His servant, revealing how His Spirit works, how the anointing works. We’re all very special to God in this hour.
Strengthened by fasting, we must go forth into the harvest fields in this final hour. Anointed daily by the power and by the Spirit of God, we must not hold back, but realize who and what we are in the Lord. Know Him through sufferings—not sickness—but through persecutions, trials and temptations. In times of weakness, He is our strength. We must know Him in the very power of His Resurrection.
“Christ Liveth in Me”
What will that power do, that power that brought Jesus out of the grave, that power that quickened and moved upon His dead body? The power of His Resurrection was so great and mighty that it brought other dead bodies out of their graves, gave them life; and they were seen on the streets of Jerusalem. That Secret Weapon is just as powerful today.
What about your anointing? Are you going to give up in despair? You still have time to reach for the anointing. Don’t, like the five foolish virgins, seek the anointing when it’s too late. If you’ll pay the price today, you can have the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit that Secret Weapon is yours. There is a price to pay for the anointing: fasting, praying, living in the Word of God, consecrations, dying many deaths to self. When you think self has died all it can, then you suddenly realize it’s time for another death…and another. Dying completely to self that Christ might live, you can rise up like the anointed apostle Paul and say, It is not I that liveth, but Christ that liveth within me. I am ready to do thy will, and I am ready to be offered.
Nothing can hold us, no yoke, no bondage. The anointing breaks them all. Paul and Silas were in jail, but the jail couldn’t hold them; the anointing was too great, and the doors were opened. The Lord is with His anointed.
Hold to His unchanging hand. The anointing of God cannot be useless or destroyed in your life unless you allow it to be. Give over to the Lord and cry, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He hath anointed me! And the yoke will be broken by the anointing of God when you trust Him with your whole heart and lean not to your own understanding. God’s anointing, your Secret Weapon in action, is for all believers today.
