In Search of a Miracle
by Ernest Angley
March 2007
People come to Grace Cathedral from other nations in search of a miracle. Most receive that healing or miracle because they are hungry for it and have gone to great lengths to receive it. They’re seeking for that touch of God that will make them well.
Matthew 7:7, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Ask and it happens, but how do you ask? You ask in divine faith, not human faith. Human faith reaches part-way to Heaven, but divine faith reaches straight to the throne of Grace.
We don’t know how many miles away the throne of God is, but we know the blood of Jesus has brought it down to us, that the Bible tells us to come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). The blood makes that help possible.
No Shadow in the Valley of Death
The blood also makes possible for there to be no shadow for you in the valley of death. Jesus took away all the shadows; He’s the light of the world, lighting up the valleys of death and He’ll be there to see you over death’s chilly tide. Jesus conquered death; He gave us eternal life in Heaven, not death. We will have life, life, life forevermore.
I heard a friend of mine tell this story about his mother-in-law. She was a good woman, a godly one filled with the Holy Spirit, but she lived in dread of death. Nothing else seemed to bother her, just death. However, when she was dying, she looked up at her son-in-law, called him by name, and said, “It’s not what I thought it would be.” She stepped onto Glory’s shore with great peace. After all that fear of death the devil had tormented her with, when she arrived at death’s door she found it to be a joyful experience. She probably saw Jesus reaching out His hand to her as she told her son-in-law good-bye. Lit up with the glory of God she triumphantly walked through the gates of Heaven. She had no fear when she was dying, but before that, she had great fear. Jesus took it all away.
Search with All Your Heart
Jesus made it possible for us to come before the throne of Grace, and He made it possible for us to ask for and receive healing. How do you search for your miracle? You search with all your heart. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5,6). Acknowledge the promises of God concerning your miracle.
In search of a miracle, first you need a miracle of salvation for your soul. The Bible tells us that blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). It’s righteousness that you must want and must have. As you hunger and thirst for it, you will receive it. Ask through the divine blood of Jesus and you shall receive. Seek the greatness of the blood and you shall find. The scripture says to knock. Any child knows how to knock. Just knock and the door to the glory of blood deliverance shall be opened to you. Isn’t that simple? Why make it complicated?
Salvation through the blood is the simplest plan ever given, yet it’s the greatest plan ever given. Just ask, just confess and be as sorry for your sins as God is that you committed them; and as God forgives you, the blood cleanses your soul and makes you brand-new. Now in the eyes of God it’s the same as though you never committed them. That’s the power in the blood to forgive sins and cleanse your soul, making you as pure as Heaven itself. The blood wipes out the Adamic nature. You were born with that Adamic nature, but when you are born new in the righteousness and holiness of God, the old nature is gone.
Jesus Has Authority over Every Disease
People asked Jesus, when He was here on Earth, for a miracle, and He gave it. A centurion came to Jesus to get a miracle for his servant; the servant must have been very special. The centurion was a high-ranking official and respected- by many, but he humbled himself to come to the Nazarene. Saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. [That’s the willingness of the Lord to give a miracle.] The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: [The centurion, accustomed to authority, was saying that he really was not of the household of faith, and he didn’t feel worthy for Christ to enter his home.] but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. [The centurion recognized the authority Jesus had over disease.] When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour (Matthew 8:6-10,13).
Divine Faith Moves Mountains
On another occasion, Jesus looked at the disciples with disappointment. “O ye of little faith!” He said. They had human faith, but human faith is counted as little faith. God’s faith, divine blood faith, is so huge that it moves mountains; so gigantic that it spoke this universe into existence. Divine blood faith can heal any sickness or disease. Faith in God heals the sick.
Many in search of a miracle miss it because they decide the miracle has to be done a certain way. No, they’re wrong. You don’t have anything to do with a miracle outside of humbling yourself in the presence of the Lord, being obedient to the voice of the Word, and receiving. The Word tells you what to do. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23). All things are possible if you believe. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you (John 15:7).
People who don’t believe in miracles don’t believe in the True and Living God. They ignore the fact that Lord God Almighty gives miracles. He always has and He always will.
God made a miracle man and a miracle woman, and then the second Adam came and made many miracle men and women; in fact, He went all the way to Calvary to bring it about. God means business when it comes to humanity with each one of His children. He loves every one and He’s ready to give miracles—physical, spiritual or financial.
Do You Hinder Your Miracle?
Do you hinder the Lord, delay the miracle? People come into the healing line at Grace Cathedral and tell me they don’t want to fall when I pray for them. That’s a ridiculous request. Years ago when I was so ill, I welcomed the power of God coming into my body the night Jesus healed me. What would have happened had I told Him I didn’t want to fall, didn’t want to go under the power? The Lord might have turned away and let me stay sick and die. When people tell me they don’t want to fall, I say, “Then stand up. You don’t have to fall down!” If they’re not slain in the Spirit, they should stand. Plenty of people are slain in the Spirit in my healing lines, and my ushers are busy picking people up and assisting them, but plenty are healed without being slain in the Spirit.
Many don’t know the first thing about divine healing. They come for healing but won’t wait until they get understanding. They haven’t really studied the Word of God. My book Faith in God Heals the Sick explains how to receive healing and how to keep it. In fact, it is essential to know how to keep healing after you receive it. Some people jump into the healing line, use their idea of how God should heal them, and when their idea varies with God’s idea, they hinder God. They think, He’s going to touch me, and then I’m leaving. That’s a bad spirit.
Naaman Was a Leper
Naaman had that skeptical spirit before he listened to the advice of his servants and changed his mind. Naaman was a captain of the host of the King of Syria, and he was a leper. There was no cure for leprosy in that day. A little maiden who had been taken as a slave from among God’s people testified of God’s power. She talked to Naaman’s wife, telling her that if her husband were in the land of her people he would be healed of leprosy. She had great confidence in the man of God, Elisha. Her testimony was the key that unlocked the door to send Naaman on his way. Her words convinced Naaman to come to the prophet Elisha for healing.
Naaman arrived at Elisha’s home in his best uniform. He looked important to the world, but he wasn’t much really because he didn’t have Jehovah God in his life. Without God, we are nothing. Elisha didn’t even get up to take a look at him. Some people look at what’s going on in these services at Grace Cathedral and decide it’s fanatical; they aren’t going to fall if they’re prayed for. Thinking they’re too intelligent to fall, they have been prayed for and to their astonishment they fell. I’ve heard people say later, “You just reached out with two fingers, touched me and the next thing I knew I was on the floor. It was like someone hit me with a two-by-four!” Others say, “You didn’t even touch me and I fell!” The power of the Holy Spirit coming on them was so strong they couldn’t stand. But they got their miracle, and now they were happy. Anyone slain in the Spirit one time wants it to happen all over again. It’s a most glorious experience!
His Dignity Was Offended
Naaman was in search of a miracle, but he wanted it his way. That won’t work. Some are in search of a miracle, I say again, but don’t want to humble themselves to go God’s way. They might as well forget about it if they aren’t going to humble themselves. Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage (II Kings 5:9-12).
Naaman had spent much time, traveled many miles to reach Elisha, and he became so angry when he was told to dip in the Jordan that he turned around to go back home without his miracle. Why didn’t he try to do what Elisha said? His dignity was offended.
Not knowing what would happen, Naaman’s servants took a chance with their master’s rage. They tried to persuade him to follow Elisha’s advice, and Naaman decided to try the cure. He went into the Jordan, dipped seven times, and it worked. And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the Lord (II Kings 5:15, 17).
Take Healing God’s Way
There are those who get mad when I tell them what to do to receive their miracle. One man hitchhiking in front of the Cathedral hadn’t caught a ride. He saw the lights in the building and decided he might as well stop in and see what was going on. A service was in progress. I had called for the healing line and he, not knowing what was going to happen, got in line. When he got to me, I asked, “Are you saved?”
“No.”
“Do you smoke?”
“Yes. If I had known it was going to be like this, I’d never have come in here!” The man told the truth at least.
That’s the way some people are about healing. They wouldn’t have come for healing had they known they might have to receive salvation, live for God and give Him the glory, take healing God’s way and go forth to serve the Lord.
The Lord heals for His glory. I’m not the healer; Jesus is the healer. He came as the healing, saving Christ. Remember that He is the one who will deliver you. The Naamans of this world might just as well go on to Jordan and get it over with. Either humble yourself or go home and die. Take your pick. Funeral workers are there to put you into the ground and cover your coffin with dirt if you reject your healing. You will die, but you could have lived. Do you want to live?
Isn’t it strange the bitter medicine people will take because the doctor said it would help them. But when it comes to good doses from the Bible they don’t want to drink them. “Fanaticism,” they comment with disdain, and they remain sick.
To be divinely healed you must go God’s way whether you like it or not. The Lord leaves it up to you. You can stay sinful if that’s your desire, remain sick if you choose, or you can humble yourself before the Lord and live. The Lord will give you life, but you have to want life. To go to the life-tree, Jesus, you have to go His way. The fruit from the tree of life will give you life.
Fifteen Years Added to Hezekiah
The great prophet Isaiah was told by God to go to King Hezekiah. In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. [Hezekiah had a great desire to live, and he humbled himself.] And Hezekiah wept sore. Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. [Isaiah was in touch with Heaven and knew what the thought of God was.] And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city. And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken; Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down (Isaiah 38:1-8).
God Has a Record of Your Life
Hezekiah was an obedient king, a rare king, and as he humbled himself before God, the tears rolled. If he hadn’t walked before God with a perfect heart, God would have said that Hezekiah was wrong about his record. That wasn’t the case, and God granted his request to live. Hezekiah lived fifteen more years.
It pays to have a good record when you want something from God. Job had such a good record that he could say, My witness is in heaven, and my record is on high (Job 16:19). The Lord has a record of your life and you don’t have to worry about lies that are told about you, how you are persecuted. Evil men persecuted Jesus, lied about Him—and they lie about Him today even though He has been in Heaven for two thousand years. But the glory of Heaven goes on shining, and the call of salvation is reaching throughout the earth in a great way in this final hour just before Jesus returns to take home His Bride.
An Angel Troubled the Water
An angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had (John 5:4). Are you in search of a miracle? Jesus the Miracle Worker, the Healer, seeing a crippled man by the pool, asks, “Wilt thou be made well?” The man has been crippled for thirty-eight years. He had faith in Heaven; for he believed that an angel came down and healed people.
Everyone was excited when the waters were stirred. Think of it: No matter what disease a person had, whoever first got into the pool was healed. What a crowd of people would be waiting around that pool knowing if they didn’t get in, they would have to wait until the next season and hope they would be first then. This was showing them the healing from Heaven that heals any and everything.
The crippled man had no one to help him in; someone always stepped in before him. It’s hard to tell how many seasons the man had been there in search of his miracle and been disappointed. But the Lord wasn’t going to let him remain that way. The man was sincere, and it wasn’t his fault that he couldn’t get into the pool on time. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath (John 5:8,9).
God Expects Obedience
Some people are disappointed when they don’t get a miracle, but it is their own fault because they won’t do what God has told them to do; they don’t think obedience will do them any good.
At times I have asked people to do something and they say they can’t. A person with arthritis came into one of my healing lines. I prayed for him.
“Bend over,” I said.
“Oh, I can’t! I can’t!”
“Try it now.” But he wouldn’t try, and so I passed him by.
The very next person in line was in the same condition. I prayed for him and said, “Bend over.” He didn’t say he couldn’t; he just bent over and began to praise God; he had his miracle. One walked off without the miracle and the other following walked off with it. The second one, in step with Jesus, had his miracle.
Claim Your Miracle
Some people have another pain after prayer; they think they are not going to get well. Jesus said a believer shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:18). If you don’t believe what the Bible says, then you lose out. Faith in God heals the sick, I say again. How do you expect to get well if you don’t believe?
To everyone is given a measure of faith. According as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith (Romans 12:3). The doctor gives you medicine but do you decide after taking the first dose and feeling no different that the medicine is no good? If so, the doctor would think you were silly. It’s the same with divine healing.
How do you know you didn’t get healed when you were prayed for? The Lord said He would get you well. After prayer, walk away claiming His promise; it’s not man’s promise; it’s God’s valuable promise from Heaven. You are promised that miracle, that healing when a believer has laid hands on you.
If you don’t believe I’m the Lord’s believer, don’t come to me for a touch. Never let anyone lay hands on you for healing if that one isn’t a Bible believer. Jesus said a believer would lay a hand on you and you absolutely would get well, but you have to claim His promise before it will happen. If you have claimed your healing nothing doubting, you may have some more pain, but consider it to be a false symptom.
I Thought I Was Dying
When I was in a dying condition at twenty-three, I had a divine visitation from the Lord; He came in person to heal me, and He lingered to talk with me, telling me that later I would go on a long fast, and when I came out of it I would have His power for the healing of the people. I believed it with all my heart; I never doubted it one moment. I knew if I weren’t healed I’d never be healed. I had watched my body go down to almost a skeleton; I was tortured dreadfully; if I ate I died deaths, if I didn’t eat I was starving to death. I had given up all hope; I thought for sure I was going to die—but I was wrong. Jesus had come to make me whole. He wouldn’t have come all the way from Heaven to tell me the future if He weren’t going to heal me. Later I would go on a long fast and have His power to carry to the people—I would have to be alive to do that! So I launched out into the deep. Lord, I said, if I drown I’m going to do it saying, I’m healed! and you’re going to be embarrassed. That’s what the Lord wanted. He wanted me to have that kind of faith, to put that kind of trust in Him. Although after that experience I had more pain, I wouldn’t surrender to it, for I knew it was just the devil trying me with false symptoms.
Make sure that you have all your trust in the Lord; when you do, you are obedient to His Word.
The Devil Tries to Make You Doubt
After you were saved did you ever wake up one morning not feeling your salvation? You knew you didn’t commit any sin, yet the devil tried to tell you that you lost your salvation while you slept. That would be an impossibility; you couldn’t commit sin while you were asleep.
The devil will try you about anything you get from God because he knows that doubt robs you of the things of God. If he can put doubt into you, he can put in fear as well that will cause you to begin to sink like Peter began to sink when he started out walking on the water to go to Jesus. Peter actually walked on water, but when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt (Matthew 14:30,31)? A great lesson is in that scripture, but some people think Peter should have had more sense than to have gotten off the boat. No, before Peter stepped out he said, “Lord, if that be you.” He knew the power of Jesus.
Power to Raise the Dead
Learn the power of Jesus Christ; know the power He had when He walked among men; He has that same power today, the power to save, the power to heal, the power to deliver. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever (Hebrews 13:8).
A desperate father came to Jesus, for his daughter was gravely ill. And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a-dying. While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. Even though she was dead, Jesus was going with Jairus. Why? Jairus believed the Word.
And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. When Jesus said that the girl sleepeth, it was wonderful news; however, those in the room didn’t believe Him, and Jesus put all the doubters out.
The Bible is the good-news Book. You’ll find all the good news you need right in that Book. It was the good news that made me whole and the good news that healed Jairus’ daughter. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done (Luke 8:41,42,49-56). Jesus woke the girl from death just like He was waking her from sleep. Jesus woke Lazarus from the dead as well.
Do you know the greatness of Jesus? Many have never met the real Christ, that’s the reason they don’t believe in divine healing. Many ministers don’t preach healing and miracles because they don’t know the real Christ, only a form. They even deny the Virgin Birth, the basis of Christianity. Denying the Virgin Birth denies people of Heaven. Without the Virgin Birth there is no Heaven for anyone, no divine blood to deliver you, save or heal you.
Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). Jesus is the blood-truth. Anyone who tries to go to Heaven any other way is a thief and a robber. They’re calling God a liar, in other words. The Bible says, Let God be true, but every man a liar (Romans 3:4).
A Blind Baby Healed
I will never forget the reaction of the mother of a little blind baby I prayed for. Crying in a pleading, faith voice, she said, “Honey, wake up. You can see now. Honey, wake up.” The baby she held in her arms wouldn’t wake up, but her faith put joy bells on the inside of me. At last the baby’s little eyes opened, and looked into Mother’s face, seeing her for the first time. What a reward that was to this servant! In that same meeting was a preacher who made it a point of finding out where the mother lived. Early the very next morning he was at her door. He had a message he just had to tell her: “Your baby didn’t get its sight!”
“I know it did,” she disagreed.
“How do you know?”
“I hold up a toy with no color and one brightly colored, and the baby reaches every time for the colored one. My baby sees!”
Time passed and proved without a doubt that the baby, now a grown woman, was seeing.
That preacher came the next night into the healing line. He had a deaf ear, and God gave him hearing in that ear. He went back to his seat in the audience and began speaking doubt. The ear closed up again. The woman he was talking to said, “I wonder that both ears didn’t close up the way he was talking!”
Why preach the Bible if you don’t believe it? Why tell people about the Bible if it’s just like any other book? If it were written through the mind of a human, not divinity, why talk about it? But it’s the mind of divinity for human beings, so why not talk about it? If you believe part of it, why not believe it all? If you believe in the Heaven it tells about, why not believe in life for the body en route to Heaven? If one promise in the Bible is false, then all the promises are false and the book is no good. However, every promise in the book is true; when you meet the condition of the promise the miracle is yours, but you must meet the condition.
Get Ready for Your Miracle
Are you in search of a miracle? Humble yourself and take that miracle any way that God gives it to you. I don’t tell God how to work, how to heal and give miracles. I just get ready for Him to move, and that’s what you need to do. Get ready for God to do His work. I make sure I’m ready for God to do a work on any of you who need a divine work done. I stay away with God and get ready. My life belongs to Him; I have to be God-ready to be used of the Lord one hundred percent; I have to be ready for Him to be able to move and work through me.
Ask, and you shall receive; seek and you shall find. Are you ready for a miracle? Are you ready for God to work? People, I say again, come here from all over the world in search of a miracle, and how wonderful it is to see them receive those miracles!
Is Jesus in Your Heart?
Are you right with God? If you don’t have Jesus in your heart, pray the sinners’ prayer with me now.
Oh, God, I am lost. I don’t want to go to hell. I know there’s a tormenting, burning hell. The Bible says hell has a flame, and a lake of fire awaits the wicked. I believe all the Bible; I believe there is one called Jesus the Son of God who died on Calvary for my sins. And I believe the all-powerful divine blood from Heaven that He brought washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in, Jesus!
If you meant that prayer, you can say, “Hallelujah, Jesus has come! Hallelujah, Jesus is mine!” It’s something to get excited about when you have been born new!
A Prayer for Healing
Now it’s healing time. Are you in search of a miracle?
Lord, here they are in the blood name of Jesus. In the all-powerful blood name: Heal! Heal! I curse the AIDS, the HIV virus, diabetes, cancer, heart trouble, deafness, paralysis, leprosy. Lord, you heal all diseases, all deformities. Lord, deliver; heal that baby who was born with just part of a brain. You’ve healed these conditions again and again. That little one whom the doctors said would never walk, heal that one the way you’ve healed others who are walking today. Lord: Heal, deliver! Heal! Heal! in the blood name of Jesus, and Amen.
The Lord is in this place, and what a wonderful God we serve! You may have come a long way in search of a miracle, and now is the time to find it. Only believe and your search for a miracle will end victoriously!
