How to Wait on God
by Ernest Angley

The Bible clearly tells us that we must wait upon the Lord. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles (Isaiah 40:31). This scripture applies only to those who are waiting on God His way. It is time for eagle Christians to mount up, and those who are waiting upon the Lord and going forward with Him will soar higher and higher.
Think about how strong the wings of an eagle are. When a storm gets real bad, an eagle’s wings take him high above it where the sun is shining; and he rides out the storm in the sunshine of God’s love. I am sure the eagle is a joy to the Lord when he soars high above the storm using the wisdom and knowledge God gave him. If we will also use the wisdom and knowledge God has given us, we will soar above our storms of life.
The eagle knows that all he has to do to begin to fly is spread his wings, and that does not take him much effort. If you have divine wings of love, it will not take much effort for you to spread your wings either. Then when you wait on God, you can rise up above the storm just like the eagle does; and you will have to stay above many of the things that are going on today.
You may not love the storms; but you cannot allow them to get you down, to put fear in you or to disturb your spirit. You will have spiritual storms, but the Lord has given you wings of love to sail above them and His greatness to ride them out. A true child of God rides out the storms like the eagle.
God Will Lift You Up
Children of God must learn that divine love will keep them above the storm just like it did Peter when he yielded to it. When the disciples saw him [Jesus] walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus (Matthew 14:26-29).
When you find the way of the Lord, He will lift you up into heavenly places on wings of faith, grace, love, peace, joy, compassion and longsuffering. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us…hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:4,6). That heavenly place is much higher than any eagle can fly.
Let’s look again at Isaiah 40:31. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles. Are you afraid of getting old and losing your strength? Isaiah said nothing in that verse about God being limited by your age; he said the Lord would renew your strength and enable you to mount up with wings as the eagles do. When you feel weak in spirit or body, wait upon the Lord; and He will renew your strength.
You may think at times that you can hardly walk; but the end of Isaiah 40:31 says, They shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. God’s way is a faith walk, one in which you don’t faint but reap in due season. Let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Galatians 6:9).
You will reap the fullness of each of God’s promises that you claim if you don’t faint. That verse does not say anything about dying; it lets you know that you cannot even afford to faint because you will lose too much ground, spiritually speaking. You must exchange your fainting spirit for a strong one.
We are now in the final hour, and you will only make it by going the way God wants you to. That is why He wants you to learn to wait upon Him—so He can get you ready for things you never thought could happen. Through much prayer, fasting and living in the Word, God has taught me how to wait on Him with patience; and you also must know God’s thoughts about how to wait on Him.
Wait in the Word
To begin, you must hang on to what God has said in His holy Word and never let go. You must rest your spirit, your soul and your body in the Word; and Jesus is the voice of the Word. He was the Word made flesh when He became a man like us. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:14).
No matter what is going on, I put great value on the Word; and I hold on to it with divine patience. Human patience alone will not always hang on to the Word because it can become aggravated, restless and careless. It can also have wrong thoughts about why God is not moving for you or others, and you have to guard against that.
When you fail to hold on to the Word, you will become weak; but when you hold on to it, it will make you strong. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one (I John 2:14).
The Holy Spirit gave David the psalms, and this is one of the many thoughts He gave him: I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope (Psalm 130:5). That hope is divine hope; and through it, you will have faith in the Word. Divine hope holds you up until it is time for you to take the next step into the divine faith that will set you free. When you live in divine hope, it gives you the courage, peace and strength you need to go on. It keeps you hanging on when, in the human, you would let go.
You have to trust the Word knowing that the word of the Lord endureth forever (I Peter 1:25). Go into God’s place of waiting, and you will find deliverance in His holy Word. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). You must depend on the Word.
Use Only Divine Faith
Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth [That means you only believe part of the time.] is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord (James 1:6,7). Divine patience and divine faith are divinity, and divinity does not waver.
The Bible says, Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering (Hebrews 10:23). What is your profession of faith?—Jesus is the Son of the living God, born of the Virgin Mary with divine blood in His veins. You can never doubt the divinity of Jesus. You must profess all that He brought to Earth and that He was crucified and resurrected for us. Then you have to hold on to that profession because the Bible tells us that Jesus is our faith. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2).
When the Lord asks you, “Where is your faith?”, that means you are using human faith rather than divine faith. When He says, O ye of little faith (Matthew 8:26), He is again referring to human faith. The Lord never calls divine faith “little faith” because God’s faith is always as big as God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.
Divine faith is a gift from God. God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith (Romans 12:3). Where is that divine faith He has given to you? Anyone can use divine faith, and it is easy to use; so why do you make it hard by allowing the human spirit and the enemy to work against you? The Lord gave faith in such a simple form that the educated and the uneducated, the rich and the poor and everyone in between can use it if they will. The Bible says, Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely (Revelation 22:17).
When you use even a tiny speck of divine faith, it will do the job. Some people will pray for God to give them faith; but they act like they have to receive a ton of it to get the job done when the Lord said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you (Matthew 17:20). If you have even one tiny particle of divine faith, you can move any mountain of opposition, despair or anything else that is bad because divine faith is stronger than any bomb that has ever been or ever will be used.
God’s waiting room is full of pure faith, divine glory and unspeakable joy. It is full of God’s courage, full assurance and grace, which is His favor from On High; so if you are full of doubt, you are not waiting on God. He is there to serve you through the Holy Spirit while you are waiting upon Him. He spread a table in the wilderness for the Israelites; and when you find yourself in the wilderness, He will spread a table for you, too. With Jesus, you will be in spiritual Canaan and headed for pure victory.
God Is Faithful
God has a waiting room, and that is where we must wait on Him. That room is God’s hope for us and our hope in God, but you will never get anywhere in God’s waiting room with wavering faith. You have to get the divine faith of the Lord working in you by knowing He is faithful that promised (Hebrews 10:23), and the Lord is not slack concerning his promise (II Peter 3:9).
The faithfulness of God is a thought straight from Heaven; but when you go into God’s waiting room without holding fast to the promises of God, either you have forgotten how faithful God is or you are not thinking about it like you should, and then you are in trouble.
Do you just use words or the promises of God? Without divinity, you are not really using the divine promises of God. The Lord taught me that every one of His promises has a condition, so a divine promise is not yours until you meet the condition of it. You have to decide, “God, you are faithful, and I know you keep your promises. I claim this promise that I need, and I believe I am meeting the condition of it; but if I am not, let me know.”
If man and woman had kept their promises like God keeps His, the world would have been a different place yesterday; and it would be a different place today. The Church Age began about 2000 years ago; and throughout those years, there were times when the light of the Gospel almost went completely out, but the Lord would not allow it to. There were always a few who would keep the Gospel candle flickering, and thank God they did.
God told the Israelites that all the land of Canaan was theirs, but they would have to put their feet on it and claim it. The LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses (Joshua 1:1-3).
When Jesus died, He left a mighty Will—the New Testament, God’s Will for us—and no other will can compare to it. In it, Jesus willed all of His great, divine promises to us; and it includes a promise for every need we have or ever will have. That is why we must study God’s promises and be able to meet the conditions of them.
Never Listen to the Devil
The Lord wants you to be aware that the devil will try to scare you out of using God’s promises. He will make you think you are losing your mind just because you forget a few things or try to convince you that you have cancer, TB or some other awful disease when it isn’t true. Some people will even get checked by a doctor; yet when they are told they are all right, they won’t believe it. Why?—because the devil can outtalk anyone who will listen to him.
The devil works on your mind through logic, and you must never debate with him or pay any attention to him. The Lord did not say the just would live by logic; He said, The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17). God didn’t mention living by luck either. The devil is the one who came up with luck; so when you say, “I am lucky,” you need to watch out. Children of God are not lucky; they are blessed of the Lord!
Another thing the devil tries to do is make you afraid, and he will make you afraid of your own shadow if you let him. He will make you afraid of the past, of tomorrow and of anything else he can think of; but always remember that you have a weapon to use against him—perfect love. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear (I John 4:18). That is a promise of God. You don’t have to pray for fear to leave you; just let the Holy Spirit flow perfect love into your mind and flush out that fear, and He will give you as many flushes in a day as you need.
You may say that you have tried waiting on God, but it did not work. Then the devil has cheated you and made you think that God is not going to pay attention to you or answer you. He whispered in your ear that you were not in the right place, but whoever told you that you should listen to the devil or take orders from him? The devil is not your authority; God is. Jesus said you cannot have two masters. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:24). Never let the enemy talk you out of waiting on the Lord.
Trust in the Lord
In God’s waiting room, you must wait in His love, not in the love of people. Human love has nothing to do with how much the Lord loves you. Some of you become depressed when people fail to show you all the love and kindness you think they should. Then you don’t feel like you are in God’s waiting room, and you don’t believe He will lift you up; but the Lord never said one thing about you needing the love of a human being to help you to fly like an eagle.
You must realize that God is your help and that He has your answers. You must trust in Him with your whole heart because that is the only way you will really trust Him like He wants you to. The Bible says, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5,6). Christians who lean to their own understanding will not understand what God is doing, and they are not in His waiting room.
When you are in God’s waiting room, you are waiting for His help to come. You may not understand all about what you are waiting for, but you don’t have to worry as long as you are waiting on God His way. Later, if He wants you to have understanding of your situation, He will give it to you.
Your trust must be in God, but there may be times when you think you are trusting God when you are really trusting more in what people are doing and saying. Some of you trust in your possessions or your money, but those things can be swept away in just moments. God will never be swept away from you, and you will never be swept away from God as long as you meet the conditions of His promises.
You have to know and trust in the things of God and depend on divinity to really be in God’s waiting room. You must know that you are truly a child in the family of God; and you must hear Jesus saying, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). The Lord wants you to have rest, but the devil will constantly fight you; and if you listen to him instead of Jesus, you will have no rest.
You Must Receive the Holy Ghost
In God’s waiting room, you must be a vessel of clay filled up with the Holy Ghost like the disciples were on the Day of Pentecost. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:1-4).
The baptism of the Holy Ghost is the greatest promise given to us next to salvation. Jesus told the disciples that He would send the Holy Ghost to them and that the Spirit would abide within them. I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you (John 14:16,17).
Later, Jesus commanded the disciples to receive the Holy Ghost. And [Jesus], being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me (Acts 1:4). Notice that Jesus said they were to wait for the promise. Why?—because the disciples had to be in the right place and in one mind and one accord for the Lord to be able to baptize them all at the same time.
You also have to be in one accord with the Lord and with what He taught and brought to be able to receive the Holy Ghost baptism; and you have to wait, trusting in His great promise. Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call (Acts 2:38,39). That promise is for everybody, yet some people will say you don’t need the Holy Ghost or that you don’t need Him to make the Rapture. The devil has used those false teachings to rob many people, and some no longer expect the Rapture to take place at all.
When you deny the Holy Ghost and His benefits, you are in big trouble because one of His greatest benefits is to prepare you to meet the Lord in the air. Although you don’t need the Holy Ghost to go to Heaven, you do need Him to make the Rapture; and you do need Him to help you stay saved in this sin-cursed world. People who don’t have the Holy Ghost will have a hard time living like the Lord wants them to.
Let the Holy Ghost Have Control
If you have the Holy Ghost, how conscious are you of Him being in you all the time? Did you know that He can calm your nervous system and get rid of fear and frustration? You must know that He is a real person, the third person in the Trinity of the Godhead, and that He has moved in to live with you and to begin doing His wonderful works through you. He will be your teacher, your guide and your comforter. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (John 14:26).
When you receive the real Holy Ghost tongue of fire, it is a tongue of love, grace, hope, courage and determination. Your tongue will finally have something to control it if you will let the power of the Holy Ghost be in control; and that tongue will not gossip, speak idle words or use foul language because the Spirit will teach you not to.
James tells us how dangerous an uncontrolled tongue can be. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell (James 3:6). Some people think they are going to Heaven when their tongue is really set on fire with the fire of hell, and that is why you have to watch your tongue. The Bible says, For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body (James 3:2). You will have victory when your tongue is perfect.
When you receive the Holy Ghost, He will produce the nine fruits of the Spirit in your soul. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance (Galatians 5:22,23). Your body will become His temple. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (I Corinthians 6:19)?
The Holy Ghost has to be real to have taken over your tongue and used it as His very own. That is the greatest experience next to being born new, but you must let the Spirit be real to you all the time. This is a Holy Ghost dispensation; and if He is not real to you, the revelations He gives won’t be real to you either.
I can give some people a message straight from the Lord; but if the Holy Ghost is not in action in their lives, they will not accept it. Then they go on to do whatever they want to do with arrogance and disobedience, and that can grieve the Spirit right out of their lives. The Bible says, Grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30).
Divinity Is Real
You cannot wait on God without having reality in Christ’s divine birth and knowing that you can have a divine birth, too; but many people do not know about the divinity of Christ or of His Virgin Birth. It took divinity coming to Earth for people to be born new; but if you don’t believe in the Virgin Birth, you will never have a chance of seeing Heaven. Jesus said, He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him (John 3:36).
Jesus was a child of the Holy Ghost who took on human flesh, but He did not have human blood in His veins; He had divine blood. If He had shed human blood on Calvary, it would not have destroyed sin, sickness or any of the powers of the enemy.
You must know what the divine blood can do and that through it, we can be partakers of Christ’s divine nature. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature (II Peter 1:4). God wants to be so close to us, but how real is He to you?
You cannot wait on God without understanding the reality of the Godhead, and you have that knowledge in the Bible—the works, the manifestations and the powers of the Godhead. The Bible says, Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10). You must have reality in Him or you will be living beneath your privilege. It does not mean you are backslidden if you have not yet come into all of that reality, but you are not taking advantage of all the many benefits of being a child of God.
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases (Psalm 103:2,3). When troubles come, we are prone to forget God’s benefits; and at times, we will exhaust every resource we can think of before we turn to the divine benefits found in the Word. We should turn to the divine benefits at once and know they are ours.
When you keep your eyes on the Lord, you will have the vision of His Word; and you will know what it will do for you. That vision will draw you to read and study the Word; but when you lose that vision, you will not spend as much time with the Word. When people first get saved, they receive the vision of the Word as well as divine sight and divine hearing; but they must keep that vision and continue to study. The Bible says, Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (II Timothy 2:15).
You cannot be approved unto God without the mind of Christ. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5). You must study the mind of Jesus and know what made up His Earth mind. If you find anything in His mind that you don’t have, you can add it because the Bible says you can. Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity (II Peter 1:5-7). You must know what the Bible says.
Saved by Grace
You must wait on God in His divine grace, which is the whole heart of God and all His favor toward us. Grace includes everything great that comes from Heaven; and because of it, we are without excuse. Don’t count yourself out of God’s grace or talk about being unworthy of it. God did not save us because we were worthy; He saved us because of His grace.
We have divine grace because of God’s love; but do you know His love, and can you separate it from human love in your life? In a divine visitation, the Lord told me that I would have to know the spirit of man, the Spirit of God and the spirit of the devil and that I would have to be able to separate the three.
God is a god of love, grace, power and strength; so we never need to spend time worrying about anything. Grace brings divine forgiveness; and you must know that, through Jesus, you can be free. If you don’t know that, the devil and people will bring you their condemnation; and they will defeat you again and again. Decide, “God says I am special; I am loved, and He wants me in Heaven with Him. It does not matter what anyone else might say or think because God is my God and my life.”
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20). The Lord is at the door every day to spend time dining with His Bride; and when we love Him, we will open wide. Then we will hear Him say, Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee (Song of Solomon 4:7).
Jesus is the name above all names; but how much does it mean to you, and how much do you treasure it? God loved us so much that He gave us His Son who carried that great name. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
You can speak your own name and remain helpless, but you can speak the name of Jesus and enter into liberty and freedom. You can speak it and receive healings, miracles or whatever you need; so never speak that name lightly. We are counted worthy through grace to use the name of Jesus; so you must reverence it, treasure it and cling to it. The Bible says, Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
The Bride will have such power in this final hour that when she speaks the name of Jesus with the greatness of the anointing, things will happen. Jesus said, And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils (Mark 16:17). In spite of that, some of you allow the devil to talk to you and worry you when he has no right to tell you anything. You gave yourself to God, so you are His property; and the devil has no right to touch God’s property.
Have No Doubt
When you are waiting on God, you cannot have doubt like Thomas did. The disciples told Thomas that Jesus had been resurrected, but he did not believe it. Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe (John 20:24,25). Thomas had seen Jesus do great things, and he had walked side by side with Him; yet he did not believe. That shows how careful you must be not to doubt God.
Later, when Thomas saw Jesus, he did believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed (John 20:26-29).
When you feel yourself beginning to doubt, immediately start using the faith God has given you; and that faith will destroy any doubt that is trying to creep in. Then you must expect God to move. My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him (Psalm 62:5). The Psalmist was talking to his own soul as the Holy Spirit moved upon him. You must also tell your soul, the real you, to wait upon God; and then you really will be expecting Him to move. At times, God may have to use a person to help you; but it will still be Him moving.
You must know that your help cometh from On High just as the Psalmist did. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD (Psalm 121:1,2). He also said, Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield (Psalm 33:20). God will only let the devil try us so much before He will throw up His blood shield of love. God is our help, our expectation, our shield and our protector; and the devil can only do to us what God allows him to. So we must trust God no matter what we have to face.
Recognize Jesus
The two disciples Jesus met on the road to Emmaus had some doubt as to whether He had been resurrected or not. They had heard strange things about Him and even that His body had disappeared. As they were returning home from Jerusalem and talking about all that had happened, a man they thought was a stranger joined them. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned [about the things concerning Jesus], Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad (Luke 24:15-17)?
The men went on to tell this supposed stranger about Jesus’ death and about what had taken place at His sepulcher. Then he [Jesus] said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself (Luke 24:25-27). They wondered who this stranger could be because He seemed to have all the answers.
It was getting late when they arrived in Emmaus, so they invited Him to stay and eat with them. And it came to pass, as he [Jesus] sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight (Luke 24:30,31).
When they finally realized He was Jesus, the men said, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures (Luke 24:32)? The tongue of love fire had burned within their innermost beings. And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread (Luke 24:33-35).
We also must know Jesus is alive in this hour; and when you have the tongue of fire, you will know He is. His Spirit will burn within you, and you will have that fire from Heaven in your tongue; and it will burn into the hearts of others.
Want God’s Will
The Bible tells us to fight the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12). If you are not fighting the good fight of faith, you are either not waiting on God or you don’t know how to wait upon Him. The Bible also says, Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD (Psalm 27:14). Some waits are longer than others; and at first, your heart may not be strong enough for a long wait, but the Lord will give you the strength you need. However, without courage, you will not receive the necessary strength.
That verse opens and closes by telling us to wait on the Lord, but God’s waiting room is only for people who want the will of the Lord. You will receive from the hand of God through His great love when you wait until you want the perfect, divine will of God in whatever you are waiting for.
You may say you are waiting upon the Lord, but are you waiting for Him to agree for you to have your own way or for Him to say what you want Him to say? If you are only waiting for your answer, then you are not in God’s waiting room. You are waiting in the wrong place, and He will not meet you there. When you are in God’s waiting room, you must make sure you have no selfish motives and really want God to do things His way. You must use the humility Jesus used when He was here and wait in perfect obedience to all things in His Word.
Some people never get many of their prayers answered because they want them answered their way, not God’s way. I have a standing order in Heaven that if I ever ask for even one tiny thing that is not God’s divine will, I don’t want Him to grant it through His permissible will. I want a divine answer to every prayer because then I know that answer is the perfection of God’s love and grace for me.
When you first go into God’s waiting room, it does not necessarily mean that you are ready for the whole will of God; but as you wait with courage, you will receive the strength to yield completely to His will. No matter how much it hurts, you must yield to and want the whole will of God. You must say as Jesus did, Not my will, [Lord,] but thine, be done (Luke 22:42). When you wait in that spirit, God will give you His direction and supply what you need.
God’s Visions Come to Pass
In the Lord’s waiting room, God’s visions will come; and God’s visions do not lie, meaning they do not fail. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (Habakkuk 2:3).
When God gives you a vision, it will come to pass or it did not come from God; but some people will not face that reality and go into fanaticism. If you say God told you something that does not come to pass, the vision was not of God because it lied; and you have to accept that. There is no need to fall apart over it; just ask the Lord to forgive you and tell Him that next time, you will wait on Him.
Some people have a dream and call that a vision, but it is not. During a vision from God, you are wide-awake; and when you are dreaming, you are asleep. Other people are always trying to interpret their dreams, but I want God to show me whatever He wants to in living reality. It is true that God has given some people dreams; but if you are one who dreams a lot, how are you going to separate your dream from a vision? If you plan to believe a dream, you will have to really linger in God’s waiting room and wait until He confirms it with a manifestation. If you don’t do that, you could be mistaken.
You have to be very careful when you have a vision because the devil will try to counterfeit it. Take note of everything in the vision because each thing has a purpose. If there are draperies or furniture, look closely at the design in the fabric. Notice the colors of things and specific items like a chair or a bed. The God of Heaven will never let the devil exactly copy one of His visions because all of His visions are miracles.
When you receive a vision from God, you will one day walk right into that miracle; but you have to wait on the Lord. However, the devil will try to defeat you and make you think you have already come into the miracle. You have to know how to check the vision that God gave you, and that is where people miss it. They may have actually received a vision from God, but they did not know how to study it. Therefore, when they saw only a part of what the Lord had showed them in the vision and the devil said, “This is it!”, they went forth and missed what God had planned for them.
God’s Timing Is Perfect
God gives us visions so we can carry them in our hearts and spirits. I have had to carry some of the visions He has given me for years, and I have had to wait for the cloud to move just like the Israelites did. And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up (Exodus 40:36,37).
If the Israelites had always waited for the cloud to move and followed it, they would have gone right on into Canaan; but they began to fail God. Then when the cloud moved, they were not waiting and it finally moved off and left them. And the LORD’s anger was kindled…and he sware, saying, Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD. And the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed (Numbers 32:10-13). I wait on God, but you can do whatever you want to—you can run ahead of the cloud, lag behind it or just sit still and let it leave you.
Timing is important with God; and until time as we know it ceases, we must be on time with God in prayer, fasting, studying His Word and in the things we do for Him. Only then will you wait in His perfect truth that is delivered by the Holy Ghost, and it cannot be mixed with your theories or moods. Jesus called the Holy Ghost the Spirit of truth, and He has nothing to serve us but truth. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13).
What kind of eyes do you have? The Bible says, The eyes of all wait upon thee [God]; and thou givest them their meat in due season (Psalm 145:15). Waiting eyes are eyes that can see the things of God. Jesus said, I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayest see (Revelation 3:18).
The Psalmist went on to say, Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing (Psalm 145:16). The Lord opens His hand, and in it is everything we need; and His hand is so big that He can serve the whole human race. When people ask, “How big is God?”, I answer, “He is big enough.” That satisfies me; and if it doesn’t satisfy them, that is their problem. They would find out that He is big enough if they would put their trust in Him.
God Rewards Waiting
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end (Hebrews 3:14). If you have accepted Christ and all He taught and brought, received His wonderful baptism and believe that He will come, you have been made partakers of Him. Then you must hold the beginning of your confidence steadfast unto the end.
To have real confidence in Jesus Christ, your beginning has to be at Calvary when you are born new. When you first received salvation, do you remember the confidence you had in Jesus Christ and in you making it to Heaven? You knew you could climb every mountain and go through every valley because of the strength and confidence the Lord had given you. You were so weak; but suddenly, you were made strong. You were blind and deaf; but suddenly, you could see and hear what the Lord was saying through His holy Word. Many people have never really been saved and they have no confidence in the things of the Lord.
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation (Isaiah 25:9). It is time to know without a doubt that God is our God and that He will save us, preserve us and keep us. His mighty right arm is for us, and His mighty right hand carries abundant life for each child of God.
All of Christ and all of His power are made available to us. He said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:18,19). Jesus gave that power to the disciples then, and we are disciples of the Lord today. Therefore, we are partakers of the greatness of the Lord if we hold steadfastly the beginning of our confidence in Him.
We have waited for God’s great outpouring of power, for His mighty anointings and for His Word to live within us. The Lord is leading us ever onward into more of Him because His greatness, a mighty harvest and the Rapture are ahead of us. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13,14).
Wait with Joy
We must be glad and rejoice in our salvation, and we must be happy pilgrims as we carry the Gospel to the whole world in this final hour. Our task should not be a dreadful one but a joyful one because it is the fulfillment of the call of God; and as we rejoice in it, it will give us strength. We did not choose Him; He chose us. According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love (Ephesians 1:4).
When you are in God’s waiting room, check yourself, not with your feelings but with the Word of God. Find out if you are ready to mount up with wings like the eagle or if you are going to stay down trembling in the storm year after year. How long has it been since you rose above depression, oppression, fear and frustration? When things become unpleasant, the eagle does not sit around depressed; he flies up high where the sun is shining.
Some of you think waiting on the Lord is shutting yourself away in a desolate place where everything is dark and gloomy. The idea of waiting makes you so depressed that you don’t even want to open the blinds to let the sun in. You feel the sun is shining on everyone but you and that God loves everyone else better than He loves you; but the Bible says, Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows (Matthew 10:29-31). The birds never worry about whether or not the Lord loves them, and they sing their hearts out when it is sunny and when it is raining.
Oh, Child of God, if you believe God’s glory is shining for you and that the sunshine of Heaven is yours, then why do you live below the clouds all the time? Wait upon the Lord in His love, grace and full assurance that say, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:13). You can be lifted up out of your sickness and despair and be free of your mind battles. You can see the high arm of God raised for you and be happy while waiting upon Him. When I tell people I am waiting upon the Lord, I say it with joy because I know He will soon meet me in His waiting room; and everything will be all right.
You may have never found God’s waiting room or soared like the eagle above your troubles; but now that you know how to find that room, you must use it. When troubles come, don’t bury your head and close your eyes to shut out the storm; adorn yourself in the holiness and righteousness God has sent you to use and rise up in the power and the greatness and the purity of God. Then you will soar above the storm knowing you will be fine because the Lord is with you. You will not have to worry because when the Lord wants you to fly, He will lift you up with the divine wings He furnishes to you in His waiting room.
Only the Born Again Can Wait on God
God’s people will be tried, and their faith will be tested; and the Lord allows it because He gives them such mighty faith and greatness that He knows the devil can’t do anything with them as long as they hold on to those things. The devil cannot win when you really hold on to God’s faith, and victory will always come. The wings of the Lord will be yours to use but only if you have true salvation.
If you need Jesus today, lift your hands and say the sinners’ prayer right now. Oh, God, I believe in Jesus Christ. I know He died for me, and I want to live for Him. I believe the blood of Jesus will cleanse me from every sin and that I will be made a new creature in Christ Jesus. I put all of my faith and trust in that divine blood, and I believe it washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in! If you meant that prayer, now you can say, Hallelujah, Jesus has come! Hallelujah, He is mine! I will serve the Lord.
Claim Your Miracle
Now, you are ready to receive a perfect miracle, but the Lord told me that you must go the perfect way of God. Then He brought King Hezekiah to my mind. God told Isaiah the prophet to tell Hezekiah to set his house in order because he was going to die; but Hezekiah held on to the Word and turned his face to the wall and cried, I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee…And I will add unto thy days fifteen years (II Kings 20:3-6). Hezekiah received fifteen more years—what a perfect miracle!
There are many perfect miracles in the Bible, and God has revealed that the Bride of Christ is going to see many of them in this last hour; and you can really be a valuable witness to God for the miracles and mighty works He performs. If you want a perfect miracle, you can have it; but you must have determination and never look back. The devil will try to get you to look back, but he won’t take you there so you can see the blessings and the greatness of God; he will take you back to battle your mind, so don’t allow it.
You may have been waiting a long time for your miracle, so why don’t you get ready to receive it today? Move into the Lord’s waiting room and be ready to do anything He wants you to do and to please Him in everything. Don’t let the devil make you think for one moment that God won’t move for you. He said, I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26). Lay claim to that promise and never let go, and the Lord will fulfill it.
You may have leprosy, AIDS, heart trouble, diabetes, cancer or you may be paralyzed; but it does not matter with God because He can heal you. Lord, I bring the sick and afflicted to you. In the name of Jesus, lay a healing hand on them today. Let them know that you are Lord of all. Heal! in the powerful name of Jesus. Heal! in the blood name of Jesus.
The healing power of God is flowing to you. Feel His presence and His power now and decide you are going to get well. If your child is sick, decide that he or she will get well, too. God is moving, so believe Him and watch yourself or your loved ones be made whole. Then write or email me about what happened to you today, and I will rejoice with you.
Ponder these things the Lord has given me for you and come into His greatness. Hide away with the Lord and say, “Lord, teach me how to wait.” I pray God will bless you and be with you as you learn to wait upon Him.
