Four Anchors

Acts 27 tells of the Apostle Paul being on a ship during an awful storm when he was a prisoner and on his way to appear before Caesar in Rome. Paul was not discouraged to be on the journey because he knew that while he was in Rome, he would have an opportunity to preach the Gospel to the people there. But he and those on board would first have to make it through the terrible storm when it looked like the ship was going to be lost. And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away (Acts 27:20).
Before the ship set sail, Paul had warned those in charge not to leave the port; but they didn’t listen to him. Paul admonished them, And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul (Acts 27:9-11).
God Honors Divine Humility
Then there they all were in the middle of a great storm, and the ship was tossed about for days. In the midst of it all, Paul had declared a fast; and everyone on board was so scared that they all humbled themselves for fourteen days. During that time, an angel of the Lord came to Paul and told him that the ship would be lost; but all lives would be saved. Then Paul gladly shared this message with the others. And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve (Acts 27:22,23).
After fourteen days, it looked like land was near. But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country (Acts 27:27). Since it was dark at the time, they threw out the anchors and waited for daylight. Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day (Acts 27:29). What a long night that must have been for the captain, but the anchors kept them steady.
During that night, Paul declared it was time to break the fast. This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing. Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you (Acts 27:33,34). The Lord knew the people would need strength because the ship was headed for an island, but it wouldn’t be able to reach the shore. Those on board would have to swim or use boards from the ship to help them get to shore. In the end, everyone was saved just as the angel had said they would be.
Anchors of Life
During that last night on the raging sea, what did those in charge do to secure the ship? They threw out four anchors, and the Lord has given me four powerful anchors that true children of God must have to protect themselves and to steady the Gospel ship for them. With these anchors, they won’t go down in the storms of life; and their ship will never be destroyed.
This is the last hour, and the storms are coming fast and furious. Oh, Bride of Christ, the devil knows we have these four anchors you’re going to read about; but we have to use them, or we’ll be headed for shipwreck. What an awful tragedy that would be because this Gospel ship is a righteous, holy ship that is consecrated and dedicated to the Lord for God’s people.
No ship goes out to sea without anchors, and you need these spiritual anchors to secure your life so you’ll be safe on your journey no matter how terrible the storms of life become. When the high waves roll in, you’ll be able to ride them out because you’ll have the right anchors; and you can rest your soul in the bosom of the Lord and in His love. Then one sweet day, we’ll anchor our souls in that haven of rest called Heaven and sail the dark seas no more. That Celestial City is a divine city where all is calm, all is love and all is faith. It’s rooted and grounded in divinity and made only by divine hands.
Divine Love
The first anchor is divine love, and you must have it or your ship will be destroyed. Love is the only thing that will lift you up so you can have the rest of the anchors, and you must put all of your trust in it. The Lord doesn’t give us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (II Timothy 1:7). With that sound Jesus mind, we’ll be all right; and the anchor of love will hold us.
Without the love of God, you can’t really be saved because love is the first thing you receive when you come to the Lord. That love brings holiness and righteousness, and it will keep you moving without letting you sink. It will even enable you to walk the waters if necessary.
The Holy Spirit helps us use this anchor as He sheds abroad the love of God in our hearts. And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Romans 5:5). You must have this divine blood love in your heart or the Holy Spirit can’t flow it to you, and the Lord is looking for vessels He can fill to the brim with His love.
The Bible says that rivers of living water will flow from those who have the Holy Ghost and live holy. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). That living water comes from Heaven. The Holy Ghost connects you with it, and so much of it flows to you that the Lord described it to the apostles in this verse as rivers of living water. The Lord explained to me that they would begin like streams in the desert; then they would become creeks and rivers, and finally they would become seas that would cover the whole Earth.
God’s Love Goes Beyond Human Love
Without the love anchor, the Bible says we’re nothing. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [love], I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity [love], I am nothing (I Corinthians 13:1,2).
You must have the same love that took Jesus to Golgotha, the same compassion and the same message of salvation and deliverance for soul, mind and body that He brought. That divine love is so great that it can’t be measured except with truth—the Word. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). If you don’t use Jesus as your measuring rod, you’ll come up short because divine love can’t be measured in human terms.
Paul wanted to know God’s love and power; and he said, That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death (Philippians 3:10). Paul also said, That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God (Ephesians 3:17-19). Oh, the depth of divine love! Are you going deep in the love of God today? You’ll never get there by just talking about it; you have to do it.
Love Casts Out Fear
So many people are tossed about on life’s angry seas in awful storms of judgment and damnation, but they won’t surrender to God. They don’t have His love, so they have no way to anchor their ship. They’re helplessly cast this way and that way as the lightning flashes and the thunder roars, and great fear takes them over. Even then, some of them won’t pray; and if they do, it’s just a bunch of words that don’t come from the heart.
When people think they’re dying, they’ll run for the tree of life and call upon God crying, “Have mercy, Lord! God, we’ll serve you! We’ll walk with you and do your will!” But they don’t do it. If the sun ever comes out for them, they forget all about God and go their own way to sin some more; then they are back at the tree of death.
Only divine love gives us strength and the heart of God. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). That heart of love keeps us on top of the water, not under. Yes, our ship is sailing the angry seas, but we’re all right. Let the lightning flash and the thunder roar because we’re traveling onward toward Heaven through the favor, love and power of God; and the Lord told us we don’t have to be afraid. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).
Fear doesn’t come from God; it comes from the devil, and there will be no fear in Heaven. Fear is a robber, and the devil uses it to destroy. Thank God it will soon be cast into hell for eternity; but until then, perfect love casteth out fear. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear (I John 4:18). You don’t have to ask God to deliver you from fear; just yield to the Holy Spirit, and He’ll flow the love of God from your innermost being into your mind and flush out all fear. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38).
Divine Faith
There’s so much danger in this life that you must have more than just the love anchor, so love has a companion—divine faith. It’s different from human faith, and Jesus made that clear when He called human faith “little faith.” Little faith won’t keep you afloat in times of trouble just as it didn’t keep Peter on top of the water. The disciples were out on the sea in a boat in the midst of a terrible storm, and they were afraid their boat was about to go down because they didn’t have the spiritual anchors. Then Jesus came to their rescue walking on the water; and Peter said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus (Matthew 14:28,29).
Peter stepped out of that boat and actually walked on the water; but then he let fear take him over, and he started to sink. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt (Matthew 14:30,31)? Peter allowed a big wave to get his mind off of the Lord, but the anchor of love kept him from going all the way down.
To have stayed on top, Peter needed more than just the anchor of love; he needed faith. The devil said, “Here comes a big wave, Peter, and it’s going to take you down”; and Peter believed it. Then fear took him over, and all he could see and hear were the lightning flashing, the thunder roaring and the waves rolling in. When Jesus got Simon Peter back to the boat, He said, “Oh, ye of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Faith Is a Gift
Faith is such a wonderful gift, and God has given everyone a measure of faith. God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith (Romans 12:3). However, you must use that divine faith instead of human faith. You used human faith before you learned Jesus; but when you really learn Him, you have to use the kind of faith He used—big faith.
Jesus said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you (Matthew 17:20). You can ask what you will, and it shall be done; but to have that kind of faith, you have to be holy, dedicated, consecrated and yielded to the Lord. You must have the image of God in you, the righteousness and holiness of Him; and you have to be like the Second Adam, Jesus. The Bible lets us know that there’s nothing to hold us up when we won’t use faith. When the problems get to be too big, we’ll sink.
You don’t have to beg God for His help, but the devil will make you think you do when you don’t obey the Lord and use faith. Jesus said, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7). It’s so simple that even a child can do it. Many times, the Lord will answer a child’s prayer quicker than that of an adult because they have such simple faith.
The Bible says we are to come boldly before the throne of grace. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). We have a blood line that goes straight to the throne of God, and we can talk to the Father at any time. Just say, “Father, in the name of Jesus, I come.” When you close your prayer, say as Jesus did, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always (John 11:41,42).
Faith Works
The Lord said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). Notice He said all ye that labor, and that means all those who work. Lazy people don’t need to expect God to use them because He won’t do it very much. The Bible says, Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone (James 2:17). James said, Shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works (James 2:18).
Every bone in some people is lazy, and they won’t even look for a job because they don’t want to work. Parents are supposed to teach their children responsibility. In our home, everybody had chores and duties; and we started doing them when we were very young. We never dared say, “I have too many school lessons, and I can’t do my chores.” My mama never let us put that over on her.
A lack of responsibility makes for an idle mind, and that kind of mind gives the devil a chance to come after you because he knows he can possess it. An idle mind is the devil’s workshop because it doesn’t work with the Holy Spirit. The devil hurries in to work in an idle mind, and he’ll defeat it.
Lazy people definitely don’t have working faith. They’re too lazy to carry a burden to the Lord, and they’re too lazy to unload it; so they don’t get anywhere. It takes energy to carry a burden to the Lord, and faith in the blood gives you that strength. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6).
Without faith, you won’t have the favor of God; and without that favor, you won’t be anchored, steadfast and unmovable. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58).
The Armor of God
We can’t mention the anchor of faith without talking about the armor of God because one of the pieces of that armor is the shield of faith. I make sure that I always have on the whole armor and that I use it; but some people are too lazy to put on the armor let alone use it because it can only be done through prayer, fasting and living in the Word. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand (Ephesians 6:13).
Only the righteous and holy can have this armor because it’s God’s armor, and the devil can’t penetrate it. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). God can’t put the armor on for you; you have to put it on yourself, and you should never go anywhere without it. When you have the first two anchors of divine love and divine faith, you’ll be anchored in the heart of God so you can put on the armor and use it.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth (Ephesians 6:14). When you have the love of God, you have truth; and you can’t have any one of these anchors without it. You’re to be a living, walking epistle of truth, the Bible in action. Paul said, Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart (II Corinthians 3:2,3).
You can be just like Jesus, and here’s a good way to start: When trouble comes, don’t run to people and ask them to pray for you. First, pray for yourself; then stand still and ask yourself, “What would Jesus do?” If you’re sincere, the Holy Spirit will give you the answer; and you’ll know just what Jesus would do. I’ve done that thousands of times down through the years, and it works.
Are you a walking epistle? Do people see anything in your life besides the holy Word of God? If your life was all people had to go by, would you guide them to Heaven with the truth that’s in you; or would you be a false witness and shame the One who died on Calvary? You need to answer these questions because you must be just like Jesus was when He walked here on Earth.
You have the same divinity available to you now that Jesus used; so accept His divine truth, divine love, divine peace, divine faith, divine joy, divine patience and divine self-control. Then for the rest of this journey, you have to represent Jesus Christ, not ninety-nine percent but 100 percent just like they did in the beginning of the Church. At that time, people said about the Lord’s disciples, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also (Acts 17:6). Don’t you want people to say that about us? I do, so we must turn the world upside down.
Protection Against the Devil
Another important piece of God’s armor is the breastplate. And having on the breastplate of righteousness (Ephesians 6:14). What kind of righteousness is this? It’s the righteousness of God. Not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith (Philippians 3:9). This righteousness only comes about through the new and living way that Jesus brought. By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh (Hebrews 10:20).
The new and living way means you walk, talk and live like Jesus; but it doesn’t mean you should imitate Him. I think it’s repulsive when somebody tries to imitate another person; but if it’s a son who acts like his father because he has the same nature, that’s different. In the same way, we’re to act like Jesus because we have His divine nature; and it fits us.
Jesus wants us to realize that He brought Eden back for us. He wants to walk and talk with us just as He did with the first Adam and Eve, and He talks to us through His Word.
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace [the Gospel of Jesus Christ] (Ephesians 6:15). This Gospel brings a peace that the world doesn’t offer or understand. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Do you have this divine peace? If not, you’re living beneath your privilege; and most Christians do.
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked [the devil] (Ephesians 6:16). Some of you don’t use this shield of faith because you don’t have enough of the love of God. You let the devil’s darts strike you and give you battles of the mind, so he keeps shooting them at you to keep your mind off of God and His promises. He wants fear to churn up and down inside of you, but that’s no way to be anchored.
There’s great protection through the armor, but take note that there’s no protection for the back. The Lord doesn’t ever intend for you to turn your back on the devil and run. Instead, He said we’re the ones who should make the devil run by stepping on him through the blood with divine love and faith. The devil can’t stand the divine blood. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7). Jesus said, Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19). Divinity is ours to use; but without faith, we’re nothing.
The Grace of God
The third great anchor is grace, which is the entire favor of God; and no one can be saved or stay saved without it. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9). You won’t get to Heaven through works, and you can’t save yourself from the stormy deep with works; you must have the anchors of love, faith and grace. The Bible says that God’s grace is sufficient. My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness (II Corinthians 12:9).
Jesus came and brought this saving grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (John 1:17). And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:14). Through this grace, we can have all the fullness of God. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace (John 1:16).
We’re to live from grace to grace; and because it’s eternal, it will never run out. Even before Jesus came, the Bible says, Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD (Genesis 6:8). That grace lasted for 120 years while the ark was being built by just eight people. Only through divine grace did God patiently wait all those years; and now, He’s waiting on the Gentile Bride. He’s been waiting for about 2000 years, but the time is almost up. The door to the ark finally closed in Noah’s day, and the door is about to close on this Gentile Dispensation. When it does, everybody who is on the wrong side of that door will be in the great seven years of Tribulation; and that will be an awful time.
The end is very near, so we must get to every soul we possibly can; and grace will help us to do that. It will make you a blessing not just to yourself but to others. You must use grace on every sinner you can so you can bring people into the knowledge of the truth and into the grace in perfection that will deliver them from all sin. Grace gives complete victory!
Do You Live in Grace?
As a man, Jesus talked grace and lived in grace. He graced the human race in such a beautiful way that He said, Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely (Revelation 22:17). There’s nothing like truth and grace. In this final hour, you’re going to live in grace or disgrace, in holiness or unholiness, in righteousness or unrighteousness. You will either have the favor of God or you won’t; you’ll be on your way to Heaven or on your way to hell. You must know what kind of person you are. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates (II Corinthians 13:5)?
Do you live the grace life? Do you walk the grace highway of God? Do you walk hand in hand with Jesus? Where art thou today? Ask the Lord to search you, and ask the Holy Spirit to let you know if you’re walking with both hands in the hands of the Lord. Are you really pleasing God? Are your prayers being answered? Can you really say, “Father, you always hear me?”
You must keep this anchor of grace ever before you. Keep your tongue and your speech in grace, and you’ll talk like Jesus. Make steps of grace; and you’ll walk like Jesus, work like Jesus and hear and see as a son or daughter of God. Grace people are fair like Jesus Christ; they’re in love with Heaven and the Godhead, and they have no ego. Grace people are obedient to the truth; they carry wonder-working power, and they’re ready to work for the Lord. They’re not consumed with lust and riches, and they don’t grumble and complain.
Grace brings the fire of the Holy Ghost to burn upon our souls and in our minds, and that pillar of fire shines brightly to give us light. There’s nothing like the fire of the Holy Ghost, the fire of His grace; and through the eyes of grace, the fires of hell become so real. Grace makes the scriptures leap to life, so you won’t ever run ahead of God or lag behind Him. The grace anchor keeps you hand in hand with Jesus every day.
Grace to Stand
Paul was in the stormy deep so much of the time, and he faced many trials and tribulations; but God’s grace always saw him through. He spent many years in prison, but he didn’t sit there with an idle mind; he wrote many books of the Bible in prison. Paul gave himself over to the love and faith of God just like Jesus did; he was a real man of God. If the first Adam had been as determined and willing to suffer as the Apostle Paul was, he never would have fallen into the hands of the devil. Eve could have gone to the death tree; but Adam wouldn’t have listened to her or followed her there.
You have to take your stand for the Lord, but you can’t do that without grace. You must have the favor of God, and you must walk in the righteousness and holiness of Him. You have to walk and live free from all sin to have power over the devil. The blood doesn’t wash away just a few sins; it washes away all of them. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).
When you’re born new, you become so holy and have such fellowship with the Lord that you can walk hand in hand with Him every day. You’re so holy that when you receive the Holy Ghost, your body becomes His temple. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (I Corinthians 6:19)?
God said, Be ye holy; for I am holy (I Peter 1:16). That’s real holiness; and the Lord is coming after a Bride without spot, wrinkle or blemish. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27).
You can say you don’t believe the Lord is coming in your day; and if that is what you want to believe, that’s up to you. The Lord says you’re without excuse. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). When Jesus came, He brought wisdom and knowledge from Heaven to make the devil’s idiots into intelligent, living, walking, biblical people.
Be a True Child of God
Many Christians are going to be fooled in this last hour. Some are already deceived and claim that nobody lives free from sin, but you can if you have Jesus inside. With Him, it’s so simple because you don’t want to sin and be like the devil. You seek daily to be just like Jesus, and you know that you’re a son or daughter of God.
When we’re saved, we’re in the family of God. We’re not orphans or bastards; we’re true sons and daughters of God. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12). Jesus came to make sons and daughters through the divine blood that He brought from Heaven. We were all born sinners in need of a Savior; and those of us who have found that Savior found Him through love and faith.
Some people don’t believe in a born-again experience because they don’t use that measure of faith God gave them, and you can’t find Calvary without it. They’re out on the stormy seas of life and can’t find their way because the waters of sin are too rough and too deep. They can’t stay on top to swim, so they go down and are destroyed because they don’t know how to find Calvary.
There’s nothing but the destruction of the devil out there in the night. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8). The devil puts many people in the jaws of death and in danger of judgments night and day. They don’t know when they may go down in the storm, and they have nothing to hold them up. They have no anchors and no real life, so many of them turn to drugs and alcohol and others go about satisfying every lust of the flesh.
The storms of life can’t be stilled with silver and gold. Large ships carrying great treasures have gone down in the sea, but those treasures are worthless in times of storm; they can’t save anyone. Many people have sold their souls for things that will become worthless, and they can’t take any of it with them when they die.
A Priceless Kingdom
We who are ready to meet the Lord are going to Heaven where the streets are paved with gold and the gates are made of pearl. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass (Revelation 21:21). If you owned just one of those gates of pearl or a little block of one of those streets of gold, think of the money it could bring you today. However, Heaven is so rich that gold is used for pavement up there. But even so, Jesus is the Pearl of great price; and the gates of pearl and the streets of gold are nothing in comparison to the glory of Him.
The kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it (Matthew 13:45,46). You have to sell everything—your soul, your body and your life—for that one Pearl. That’s how valuable Jesus must be to you, and that’s how important it is to learn Him. You must always seek to learn more about Jesus. I’m still learning about Jesus, and I always will be; and I’m sure we’ll still be learning about Him for all eternity.
Jesus offers us so much that Paul said, And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:10). When you’re complete, there’s nothing lacking; but no one can be complete without fully giving their hearts to grace-blood so it can wash away all of their sins.
Are you complete in Jesus today? Are you letting the Lord supply your needs? But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). If you won’t let Him first supply your needs spiritually, He can’t supply them physically or financially either.
Seas of Promises
The final spiritual anchor the Lord gave me is the promises of God; and today, we’re walking His seas of promises. The Lord showed me His seas of promises in a vision of such reality. In building this great work for over half a century, whenever I would face stormy times, I’d tie a knot in the end of my rope and hold on until the Lord moved…and He never failed me.
Did you ever hold on to your rope with no foundation under you but faith and love? That takes a lot of effort, but the Lord always gave me the strength I needed. Then one day, He came to me and said, “Let go of the knot. From now on, you’re going to walk the seas of promises.” It seemed that I was way up in the air; and when I let go, I felt myself falling down just as if it was really happening. Then I landed so softly on God’s seas of promises. There were no big waves as far as I could see, and I was walking the seas of promises.
I’m going to walk the seas of promises until I reach all people throughout the world and give them a chance to receive the Gospel. I never tire of preaching and teaching the story of Jesus, and I travel thousands of miles to do it. I don’t like to travel, but I’ll do it for souls. I promised God I would do anything for souls, and I’ve never backed down.
God’s promises are all true, and the Lord told me that all the powers of Heaven are in each promise. Although there are thousands of them, each one stands alone in power and greatness; and they’re sufficient for whatever we need.

It’s not enough to just know the promises of God; you have to claim them and hold on to them. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast (Revelation 3:3). Every promise in the Bible is yours if you meet its condition. The devil will try to discourage you so you won’t claim them, but look to Jesus; He’s your faith. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
Do you claim the promises? The Lord told me that the promises are just print on paper if you don’t claim them or meet their conditions. He told the Israelites that the land of Palestine was theirs, but they would have to put their foot on it and claim it. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses (Joshua 1:3). Even after God had told them this, they didn’t do it; and they lost the land. Now, the Lord is gathering them back, but they’re still failing Him. Soon, they’re going to be swept into the Tribulation Period to be deceived by the Antichrist just as they’re deceived now.
Jesus came with divine blood from Heaven to help us hold on to everything He brought. When you doubt, you’re not holding on; and you won’t receive. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord (James 1:6,7). If you let your faith waver, you’ll lose confidence in God’s promises and fail to obey them; and that’s a disobedience to God. You must have faith, and it comes by hearing the Word of God. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). It takes Word-faith to have the strength to hold on.
You must know that God keeps all of His promises and then hold on and wait for them to be fulfilled. You can’t hold on for only a little while and then doubt; you must hold on all the time. When Jesus was here, He walked the same valleys that we face today; and He lived by the same promises that we have to live by. Oh, how He suffered; but He defeated death, hell and the grave because He held fast. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory (I Corinthians 15:55)?
Submit to Divinity
Jesus was our perfect example. He is the divine Son of God, but He took on human flesh and became the son of man. In doing so, He had to use divinity and the four anchors; and He showed us how to do that. He demonstrated them over and over, even in the Garden of Gethsemane on His last night of freedom.
Jesus was in such agony as He prayed that night that God the Father sent an angel to give Him strength. It seemed that His flesh just couldn’t take much more as He prayed, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me (Luke 22:42). But Jesus had the anchors; and He reached out to also say, Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done (Luke 22:42). Then He went on to be beaten nearly to death and to be crucified on Calvary.
Jesus was a man of sorrows. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:3). This despised man was the one who came saying He would take all of our burdens. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (I Peter 5:7). The reason some people don’t receive all the help they need from God is because they won’t give their burdens to Him.
We have the nine divine fruits of the Spirit to help us, and you can gather that fruit any hour of the day or night. You don’t need anyone to help you; you can gather all you need, and there is plenty. Jesus came to bring us life, and He said, I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). This life is more abundant than anything people have ever had outside of Eden.
God Is Enough
Somebody once asked me, “How big is God?” My answer was and still is, “He’s big enough”; and that’s all we need to know. He’s big enough to hold the whole world in His hands and to save every person on Earth who wants to be saved. He’s big enough to carry everyone to Heaven, and He’s big enough to give us eternal life so we’ll live forevermore. He’s big enough to take away all sickness and disease and to take any weakness out of our bodies.
God is big enough to give us the mind that His Son, Jesus, had when He was here on Earth—a divine mind in a human body—and He gives us that same wisdom and knowledge. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him (James 1:5). God loves us to ask for His wisdom, and He’ll never rebuke us for doing that. Jesus came saying, Ask, and ye shall receive (John 16:24). He also said, If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you (John 15:7).
Jesus is our big tree of life; all Heaven flows to us through Him. When I use that name, the blind get their sight, the deaf hear and crippled people are made to walk. Parts of people’s bodies are re-created, and thousands are delivered in just moments of time. How?—The Lord taught me to tell people to start saying, “The blood, the blood.” As they do, the blood falls into their souls; and all the devils flee. Then I ask them to invite Jesus in, and many of them go on to receive the Holy Ghost.
We must understand and use the blood and the Word in this last hour. The Lord will tell you many things, and the Holy Ghost will teach you the scriptures if you’ll let Him. The Lord taught me that every vision and every revelation have to be confirmed with the living Word of God. Anything that doesn’t stand the Word test must be thrown out.
We Need Holy Ghost Power
Jesus, the Word, came saying, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). People must be drawn by the Spirit; and Jesus said, And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me (John 12:32). We lift Jesus up with these divine anchors of love, faith, grace and the divine promises. As we lift Him up, He will enable us to do His works. He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [more massive] works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12).
We can’t do these works without the power of the Holy Ghost. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever (John 14:16). The promised Comforter did come on the Day of Pentecost, but how many people use that power from On High with their anchors? You must have miracle power, and you have the miracle worker inside when you have the baptism of the Holy Ghost. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8). The Holy Ghost is a person, and you must let Him become living reality to you.
In this dangerous hour, the Holy Ghost is a must; but many people don’t have Him. Some of them think they do; but they talk in tongues at will and prophesy at will, and that’s not the Holy Ghost baptism from Heaven. That is only man’s and the devil’s so-called Holy Ghost, and it’s not real. The Lord told me that when people do things like that, it grieves His Spirit; and it opens the door for the devil to take over and use their tongues. It’s dangerous to speak in tongues at will because it’s of flesh and the devil, but many people don’t want the real thing because they don’t want to live holy and pay the price.
Some Christians hate the name Pentecost as well as the Holy Ghost; and in many churches today, nobody ever receives the power the disciples received in the Upper Room. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:1-4). The Holy Ghost power has been scorned by preachers, teachers and many so-called Christians. They’ve robbed themselves and others, and they’ll soon be shipwrecked and never see Heaven.
Never Reject the Spirit
You must have the Holy Ghost if you want to make the Rapture because the Lord said we will be changed according to the power that worketh within us. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you (Romans 8:11). When the Rapture takes place, it will be like an explosion on the inside; and we’ll be changed in a moment. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (I Corinthians 15:52).
You can’t fight the Holy Spirit and go to Heaven regardless of what anybody says. People have mocked God’s power and mimicked the Holy Ghost, the third person in the Trinity of the Godhead, for years; and I don’t want to be with them on their seas of life because they have nothing but darkness and death ahead of them. They don’t have the light of Heaven to guide them through the stormy nights; and without that light, there’s no life.
When people reject the Holy Ghost, they can’t see the holy way even when the sun is shining by day or when the moon and stars are shining by night. They don’t know how to walk through the darkness of sin and stay away from it, and they can’t see their way to Calvary because they won’t accept the light.
The Lord told me years ago that this hour would come when people, even Pentecostal preachers, would blaspheme against the Holy Ghost; and it’s happening. So many have gotten away from the truth, but the Lord said there would be a falling away before the man of sin would be revealed. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition (II Thessalonians 2:3). The manifestations of the antichrist spirit are all over the world now, and no place is safe any longer. The only safe place is in the arms of Jesus, and you must strive to keep yourself and your children there.
Go God’s Way
Today, so many people don’t want Jesus, and they embrace false religions instead. That’s what’s wrong with our world. Jesus came as the Savior of the world, but how many people recognize Him as their Savior? He’s not your Savior unless He’s delivered you and given you the power to live free from all sin. Only then are you holy and righteous and have the image of God; so when God looks at you, He can see a reflection of Himself.
What does God see when He looks at you? Does He see a reflection of Himself? Are your anchors sure, and are you on your way to Heaven? Many people claim to be ready for Heaven, but God isn’t ready for them because they’re not right with Him. Of course, they’d like to go and jump into that heavenly bed of ease, but they want to get there their own way. The Bible says, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). When you don’t have the guiding light of the Spirit of God, you’ll never find Heaven because deceit brings defeat.
Today, many people with sincere hearts won’t cry out to God when their ship is about to hit the rocks. They have no anchors, so their ships are going to drift into the judgments of destruction; and they’ll be destroyed. Their lives are in jeopardy with every step they take because no one can get along in this world and have any real life without Jesus Christ.
When Jesus was here, He said, The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up (Matthew 4:16). Of course, not all the people came to the light; some rejected it just as they’re doing today.
We must have the vision of a lost and dying world and a burden for lost souls in this end-time hour. We must fast for lost souls just as Jesus intended us to when He said, This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21). We must weep the tears of Calvary and cry from our hearts, “Oh, God, give us the lost at any cost! We will pay the price. We’re your servants, and you’re the Master of our lives.” Then when He speaks, we go forth.
With the great courage God gives us, we cross the stormy seas to reach people. We find them in chaos because they don’t know their way. Multitudes are worshiping the devil while many so-called Christians have no burden for them; but the Lord said, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). That’s the love of God speaking; and when you have the four anchors, you will have that same compassion. If you don’t have it, you can’t possibly have the four anchors; so your ship is going to wreck, and what a crude awakening that will be!
Use the Anchors
Now that you know the four anchors, use them to anchor your soul in the depths of God’s love and in His holy faith, in the grace of Jesus Christ and the promises of God. Then you’ll have nothing to fear and nothing to worry about. These anchors are life for you today, and God wants you to have them and use them; but you can’t use these anchors without prayer, fasting and living in the Word. God doesn’t want you to be tossed about on the angry seas of life without them. You can’t let any storm destroy you or defeat you; and if you have the four anchors, nothing will. There is no defeat in Christ Jesus.
Don’t let the devil cause you to be weak and not use the anchors. The laws of nature are strong, but the divine nature is much stronger; and that’s why you must have it. It takes strength to use the anchors, and it takes wisdom and knowledge to use them at the right time. These precious anchors are mine and yours, and we must never let our ships of life be without them.
Salvation Can Be Yours
If you don’t have the four anchors today, you must feel the helplessness and hopelessness of being without them. You who have AIDS and are dying in sin, you have to come to God or you’ll remain lost out there in the night. AIDS is a terrible affliction, but hell is much worse; so you must know that you can be saved and healed. The Lord will reach down right now and lift you out of the miry clay and establish your goings. He will heal your body of AIDS or any other deadly disease.
Right now, you’re in the stormy deep; and destruction is soon going to be yours. Tomorrow, you may be too far gone, but today is the day of salvation. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (II Corinthians 6:2).
Sinner and Backslider, say this prayer right now: Oh, God, I don’t want to be destroyed. I don’t have the anchors, and I want your favor. Please, God, forgive me and save my soul! I have sinned against you, and I acknowledge I’ve done wrong. I’m so sorry for the way I’ve trampled the blood of Jesus underfoot as though it were unholy. Oh, heavenly Father, forgive me now; and I believe the blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus! Come on in!
If you meant that prayer say, Hallelujah, Jesus is mine! Then go on and reach for all the anchors and accept the whole Bible, rightly dividing the Word of God. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (II Timothy 2:15). The more you study the Word, the more favor of God you’ll have and the more revelations you will receive.
Receive a Miracle
Now it’s healing time for the body, and you can have healing for any disease or affliction. Lord, those who are dying with AIDS or cancer, heal them now. I bring you the deformed little children, and I know you can make them whole. Those who have diabetes, heart trouble, lung trouble, leprosy, paralysis or any kind of sickness, heal them in the righteous, blood-name of Jesus. Heal!
The holy power of God is flowing to you now; be thou made well just as thousands of others have been. Then live for God and make sure you always have the four anchors to anchor your soul on the stormy seas of life. These anchors will keep you secure until you enter that haven of rest over yonder and are safe in the arms of the Lord for all eternity.
May God bless you today and make your life steady and complete with the four divine anchors. I’ll see you in the Rapture!
