Don’t Carry Tomorrow’s Burdens Today
by Ernest Angley
March 2019
The Lord has revealed to me that many of His children are guilty of carrying tomorrow’s burdens today, and all of us must know how to stop doing that. Jesus said, Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof (Matthew 6:34).
Jesus also said, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature (Matthew 6:25,27)? The answer is that no one can add anything.
Jesus did not mean we shouldn’t look ahead and count the cost of projects or purchases before we jump into them. The Bible says, For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish (Luke 14:28-30). Jesus does not want us to start something and not be able to finish it.
Taking no thought for tomorrow means we are not to be troubled and anxious about it. Be careful [anxious] for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (Philippians 4:6). Why be anxious today for what may or may not happen tomorrow? Why spend precious time building bridges today that you won’t really need tomorrow? You have plenty of troubles to deal with today, so you don’t need to borrow even more from tomorrow; and if you will count your blessings today, you won’t have time to take on anything of tomorrow.
Seek God First
When you worry about tomorrow, it will weigh you down and cause you to have a doubtful mind; but Jesus said, Neither be ye of doubtful mind (Luke 12:29). The devil will try to plant a seed of doubt in your mind by telling you that God may fail you because Satan knows that if he can get you to doubt one thing in the Word, he will be able to get you to doubt more and more. Then you will soon be full of doubt, so never listen to him.
The devil wants you to doubt the promises God has made in His Word. If he can’t get you to do that, he will try to make you feel guilty for asking the Lord for too much; but you are never asking the Lord for too much when you ask for any of His promises to be fulfilled. The Bible says, Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10). When you are calm and quiet before the Lord, doubt will not be able to creep in and cause you to lose ground.
Jesus said, Seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you (Luke 12:31). Seek God’s power, wisdom, knowledge, mercy and goodness today; and then trust the Lord for tomorrow. It pleases Him to give His children what they need. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the [whole] kingdom (Luke 12:32). You just have to put God first in everything.
If you carry tomorrow’s burdens and cares today, you will be consumed with them; but Jesus warned, Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged [consumed] with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares (Luke 21:34). Carrying the wrong burdens will cause your mind to become cluttered, and that will hinder God from moving for you.
Some of you can’t seem to get the answers you need because you won’t listen to God or obey Him, and you are not willing for His divine will to be done in your life. Others may have done God’s will but then failed to use divine patience to wait for the results. The Bible says, For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise (Hebrews 10:36).
You must realize that God is on the throne today, and He will still be on the throne tomorrow; so you can reason things out with Him concerning tomorrow when tomorrow comes. He says in His Word, Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD (Isaiah 1:18). Unfortunately, we are living in evil days, and so few people will take time to reason with God.
Be Not Troubled
Doing what God wants you to do today will give you peace. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). When your heart and mind are right, the whole you will be right. Then the Lord will be able to use you as He wants to.
You have to believe God and trust Him for all of your tomorrows, and never let your heart be troubled. Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me (John 14:1). If you don’t trust God for tomorrow, you will be in trouble today.
Jesus asked the disciples, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts (Luke 24:38)? He also said, And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled (Mark 13:7). We don’t have many days left on this Earth, so you need to obey God and make the most of them.
God doesn’t want His children to be troubled and afraid. He gives us His love, and that love will cast out all fear. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love (I John 4:18). If you have any fear, that means you have a lack of love; so there is no need for you to try to pray your fear away. Instead, you need to seek God’s perfect, divine love.
When you are troubled, it is a result of your interpretation of a situation or of you imagining what might happen; and those things won’t change anything. When you are truly trusting in God to take care of tomorrow, you will have peace today knowing that you have Jesus for whatever you will have to face. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee (Isaiah 26:3). If you don’t keep your mind on the Lord, you will not trust Him.
Let God Take Control
Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength (Isaiah 26:4). If you are afraid of tomorrow, you are not trusting God for it. In fact, you are not trusting Him like you should for today either or you would have the faith you need to leave tomorrow in His hands.
None of us know what is going to happen tomorrow. Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth (Proverbs 27:1). God is the only one who can see your tomorrows; and that is why you must trust His love, His faith and His promises. Many people worry themselves to death about all kinds of things, but that is because they don’t have God and the things He provides. If you have the Lord, you have nothing to worry about.
Child of God, the Lord’s eyes are upon you to do you good today because you are an heir of all Heaven affords just like Jesus is. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16,17). You already own a part of Heaven, so you are wealthy beyond compare. That is how much God cares for you.
You would think God was going out of business the way some people try to solve tomorrow’s problems today, and that won’t work. The Bible assures you that God will be with you every day with His mercy, compassion and faithfulness. It is [because] of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion [what I need], saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him (Lamentations 3:22-24).
When you look to God and face one day at a time, He will meet you every morning with the help you need. For I have said, Mercy shall be built up forever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens (Psalm 89:2). God is always faithful, so you can always trust Him. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations [which includes us]: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth (Psalm 119:90).
God Will Take Care of You
When you are born again, God’s everlasting arms are underneath you to hold you up today and all of your tomorrows. The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee (Deuteronomy 33:27).
God is looking out for you and protecting you, but some of you listen to the devil when he tells you that is not so. Why will you listen to a liar? He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it (John 8:44).
God has promised to take care of all your tomorrows, and He speaks only truth. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good (Numbers 23:19)? Listen only to God’s truth, and it will set you free. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).
God will never faint or become weary, so He will be there for every one of your tomorrows to empower you and give you strength. You don’t even have to worry about getting old because the Bible says the Lord will restore your youth. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's (Psalm 103:5). Just claim that promise, and God will renew you.
Trust God
There is no reason to worry about tomorrow when you know that Jesus and the Holy Ghost are making intercession for you. It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us (Romans 8:34). Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (Romans 8:26).
God is an everlasting Father, and He will never leave you. For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Hebrews 13:5). Then He sent Jesus to be our Savior and so much more. For unto us a child is born…and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). When you allow the Lord to be all of those things to you, it won’t matter what tomorrow holds.
You can pray to the Father at any time, and He will take care of whatever you need. Jesus instructed the disciples to pray saying, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:9-11). Notice He said “daily bread” and not “tomorrow’s bread.”
When the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness, God told them He would provide them with bread from Heaven every day. Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning (Exodus 16:4,19).
God wanted the Israelites to walk in His love, grace and power every day; but unfortunately, they didn’t trust God. Instead of gathering just enough bread for one day as God had instructed them to, they took things into their own hands and saved some of the bread for the next day; and they paid the price. Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them (Exodus 16:20).
Those people wanted to do things their way, and people are still like that today. God could have made the extra food last, but He was trying to teach them to trust Him. He didn’t want them to be anxious about having tomorrow’s needs met today, and you don’t need to be either.
Now on the sixth day of the week, God did allow the people to gather enough bread for two days because the seventh day was the Sabbath, a day of rest. On that day, the extra bread didn’t go bad because it was God’s plan to preserve it. And they [the people] laid it [the bread] up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. And Moses said, Eat that today; for today is a sabbath unto the LORD: today ye shall not find it in the field (Exodus 16:24,25). God can do anything; but when you disobey Him, you are in trouble.
Expect Angel Help
Not only will God be there for you, but He will also send angels to help you when you need them. Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14)? When you are an heir to salvation, you can draw angels of the Lord to you; and the devil and his demons fear them because of the power God gives them. But you have to work with them in the faith, the love and the humility of God. You can’t have any ego about it because ego is of the devil, and angels will not work with ego.
Angels cannot work with fear either. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (II Timothy 1:7). Angels can only deal with a sound mind, and that is the kind of mind Christ had when He walked on Earth. The Bible says we can have that same mind. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5). To have that mind, you must feel the need of it and seek it. Then angels can draw you to the promises of God and help you and guide you into the things of God.
God will send as many angels as you need to help you out of a crisis and give you extra strength, but you must have faith in them. Angels will not stay with you when you doubt God because your faith is what draws them to you, and faith is what will hold them there.
Live by Promise
The best way to stop being burdened by what tomorrow may bring is to live by God’s promises today. A promise is a pledge of assurance that something will definitely happen; and when God promises you something, you can expect it to come to pass. At times, there may be a period of waiting between the giving of the promise and the fulfillment of it; but don’t give up. The Bible says, But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).
God’s promises should be more valuable to you than money, possessions or anything else on this Earth. There are promises in the Word of God for anything you will ever need, but the Lord didn’t make them just to fill pages in His Holy Book. God intends for His children to embrace His promises, to be persuaded of them and to be partakers of His divine nature through them. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (II Peter 1:4).
While the world is trying to get all they can out of this life, God’s children must be partaking of His divine nature through His precious promises. Then all of your tomorrows can be as bright as the promises of God if you will claim them. For all the promises of God in him are yea [true], and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us (II Corinthians 1:20).
God did not make promises to break them, but every promise has a condition; and you have to meet that condition before you can claim it. For instance, you must have real godly sorrow for your sins before they can be forgiven; and then you have to ask for forgiveness. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of (II Corinthians 7:10).
Every promise in the Bible is valuable and as powerful as if God had just spoken it today, so you must never let man or devil influence you to miss out on one of God’s intended promises for you. Jesus paid for them, so they are free to you; and you can expect to be blessed night and day. God is able to make you great for His purpose and to give you all the strength you need if you will receive it in all faith and be thankful, but that won’t happen if you fail to claim the things God has promised.
In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve didn’t have to live by promise because God had given them everything they needed; but we don’t live in Eden, so we have to depend on every promise of God and know that He will provide for us. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name (I Chronicles 29:12,13).
Know What God Has Promised
In order to live by promise, you must know what God has promised to His children. Jesus promised our hands would be used like He used His hands. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:18). We are to be servants of the Lord, and we must have divine power in our hands so we can serve like Jesus served. We are to finish up the work Jesus started when He was on Earth, and then we can go home. Hallelujah!
The Lord promised us great grace, which is all the favor of God. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). Salvation comes through grace; so if you are a child of God, divine grace belongs to you, but you have to use it. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
You have to learn what is yours and stand for it, steadfast and unmovable. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58).
God promised us joy and strength. For the joy of the LORD is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10). It is wonderful that we can have great strength all the time and be able to look forward to each day without worrying about tomorrow. We must use that strength to redeem the time for the Lord. Redeeming the time, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16).
God wants to give us answers, direction, strength and power for all of our todays. He gave the Israelite people answers to every problem they faced as long as they would accept them and walk in His divine will. No enemy could stand before them when they acknowledged God, and they had nothing to fear or worry about.
However, when Israel limited God, they limited themselves, too. How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy (Psalm 78:40-42). The Israelites tied God’s hands, and many people today do the same thing.
Look Only to God
If you keep your eyes on the problems of tomorrow instead of God’s answers for today, you are doing what the Bible calls observing lying vanities. That means you are robbing yourself of the help God wants to give you. Jonah found that out when he said, They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy (Jonah 2:8).
Jonah did not do what God had asked him to do, so God allowed a whale to swallow him. In the awful depths of that whale’s belly, he said, The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds [seaweed] were wrapped about my head. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD (Jonah 2:5,9).
What a horrible smell there must have been in that whale’s belly, but Jonah praised the Lord for deliverance; and he did not doubt Him. Then the Lord caused that whale to vomit up Jonah. And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land (Jonah 2:10).
The Bible says, He that observeth [keeps his eyes on] the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth [pays attention to] the clouds shall not reap (Ecclesiastes 11:4). You must keep your eyes only on the promises of God.
You will face winds of opposition as you go out to sow the seeds of righteousness, and the dark clouds of this world will hover over you. Will you observe the wind and the clouds and cease to sow and reap for the Lord, or will you observe His commands and promises? He said, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen (Matthew 28:20). God will never leave you, so all you have to do is stay in step with Him. Then every day will be a good day for Him.
Paul faced much opposition, but he knew he had been called of God and that God would be with him. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began (II Timothy 1:8,9).
When you carry the true Gospel, you will suffer for the sake of Christ; but through it all, God will be right there with you if you remain steadfast and unmovable in His love and faith. He will never fail you when you hide yourself in Him. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust (Psalm 91:1-4).
God Will Move
You must give God all your trials, fears, weaknesses and sicknesses and claim His promises for today. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (I Peter 5:7). Jesus said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). He will not only take those burdens; He will do something about them.
If you have prayed about something you need but have not yet received an answer, don’t give up. The Bible says you must continue to earnestly pray. And he [Jesus] spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint [draw back or give up] (Luke 18:1). The Lord didn’t tell you to talk to others about your troubles. He said you should look to Him; and if you trust Him, that is what you will do.
Jesus said, Shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily (Luke 18:7,8). God will deliver you if you hold on to Him.
Jesus asked the question, When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth (Luke 18:8)? If you continue to carry tomorrow’s burdens today, you will not be looking for Jesus to come; and He is coming only for those who are watching for Him. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them (Luke 12:37).
Be Ready to Fight
The Bible teaches that you must be ready to fight the devil every day, but you cannot fight him with your own weapons; you have to do it with God’s divine faith, divine love and divine promises. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal [visible things the world can see], but mighty through God to the pulling down of [the devil’s] strong holds;) (II Corinthians 10:3,4).
God will give you the strength you need to stand up and fight. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil [everything he can think of]…and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore (Ephesians 6:10,11,13,14).
The word “stand” is one of the strongest words in the English language, and you must stand against the devil and all his power. He can’t defeat you or make you run when you stand God’s way. God told the Israelites to stand still, and see the salvation [the work] of the LORD (Exodus 14:13). God wanted them to watch Him separate the waters of the Red Sea for them, and He will separate them for you, too.
We are at war with the devil, and he has never had to fight anything like the end-time hour Bride of Christ. Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners (Song of Solomon 6:10)? You will be fought, but you must fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses (I Timothy 6:12).
You can have all the power of Heaven backing you up, and you can wear the whole armor of Lord God Almighty to protect you. The devil has never been able to penetrate that armor, but you have to put it on every day. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God…Having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked (Ephesians 6:13,14-16).
Never let the devil get to you. Hold up the divine shield of faith, and all his darts will fall at your feet; but notice that God does not provide a shield for your back. Why?—because you are not supposed to run from the devil; you are supposed to make him run from you. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (Ephesians 6:17,18). You must continue to pray for yourself and others even in the face of difficulty.
David Was a Fighter
Never back away from the devil. You must meet him head-on, and you have the power from Heaven to do it. It is the same power that threw the devil out of Heaven when he became full of ego, and it has defeated him again and again down through the years. He cannot stand against the power of God, and you have Heaven’s greatest weapon to use on him—the divine blood. The Lord told me that when you spray the devil with the blood, it burns him just like fire burns our skin. Then he will move away in a hurry because he can’t take that blood fire.
David used power from Heaven to defeat Goliath. Goliath had the devil on his side, but little David had God on his side. He knew how to use a slingshot, and he knew where to find just the right stones to put in that sling. At the brook of God, he chose five little stones representing J-E-S-U-S. And he [David] took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine (I Samuel 17:40).
Goliath made fun of David, but David didn’t care. And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance (I Samuel 17:42).
You don’t need all the power of Jesus to defeat the devil. David used just one stone, and it knocked down that big giant. And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him (I Samuel 17:48-50).
David didn’t have a sword to use to cut off Goliath’s head, so he used Goliath’s own sword. But there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled (I Samuel 17:50,51).
Contend for the Faith
We must have the same kind of faith in God that David had and know without a doubt that He will take care of all of our todays as well as our tomorrows. That is the faith that the saints in the Bible had, and the Word says we must contend for it. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints (Jude 1:3).
I decided one day that I was going to contend for that faith. The devil really came against me, but I didn’t back down. I told God I would pay any price to have that faith, and I got it. That was a trying time, but God used Job’s words to help me through it. Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him (Job 13:15).
I dined on the Word during that time; and like Job, I knew my Redeemer lived. For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth (Job 19:25). It didn’t matter how many people lied about me or came against me because I knew as Job did, My witness is in heaven, and my record is on high (Job 16:19). He [God] knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold (Job 23:10).
You must use divine faith to combat the powers of darkness that seek to hinder you from receiving all God has for you: Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son (Colossians 1:12,13).
Never Listen to the Devil
Never take the devil’s way in any situation. He will make his way seem easier, but don’t let him deceive you and rob you of even one of God’s promises for you. At times, he will try to hinder you by giving you a nervous burden and making you think you have done something wrong when you really have not; but don’t pay attention to him. If you are a Spirit-filled child of God, the Holy Ghost will let you know when you have done something wrong; so that is just the devil tormenting you with his idle talk.
Idle talk is worthless whether it comes from the devil or man, so you must never listen to it or use it. Jesus said, But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment (Matthew 12:36).
You must strive to be what God wants you to be today and stop letting the devil worry you about tomorrow. When you strive for something, you make a great effort to achieve it. Now, I’m not talking about striving to do works that will make you worthy of the Lord’s blessings because when you give your heart to the Lord, He counts you worthy. Then all you have to do is continue to walk worthy. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10).
Paul did a lot of striving. Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily (Colossians 1:29). Paul was a real fighter, and he has been a great inspiration to me. The Lord has used him to bring me to where I am in God today. There was a time when I would not have counted myself worthy to receive so much from God; but I have learned that when you are saved, you are worthy of whatever God chooses for you, and He always chooses Heaven’s best for His children.
Be a Winner
Be diligent in working for God today, and He will take note of everything you do for Him. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister (Hebrews 6:10).
You must work for the Lord not because you think you should but because you love Him. When I got saved, I wanted to do anything I could for Jesus. It was a love work to me, and it still is. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end (Hebrews 6:11).
When you are focused on working for the Lord, you won’t be moved. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God (Psalm 62:6,7).
The Bible says God’s children are winners. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us (Romans 8:37). So look like a winner and act like a winner saying, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:13). My motto is: “I will make it; I always make it.” You can use that, too.
When you obey God today, He promised that no power of man or the devil can destroy you tomorrow. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19). The devil will come rushing at you with mighty force to try to prevent you from meeting the condition of that promise or even believing it; but again I say, never listen to him.
No Promise, No Life
The truth in the Word of God will save you from so much trouble, but you have to believe it. The promises in that Word are deep, rich and fertile; and when you live by them, they have the power to take you out of the dry deserts of everyday life and put you into the flourishing abundance of God’s life. I [Jesus] am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). This world is now in such a horrible condition that people are not really living unless they have Jesus.
The promises will take you from weakness to strength, from depression to gladness and from confusion to peace. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints (I Corinthians 14:33). When Jesus was on Earth, He went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him (Acts 10:38).
Without having the promises of God to live by today, life would not be worth living tomorrow. Without the promise of salvation, we would be eternally lost. Without the promise of healing, we would have to accept sicknesses and diseases and let them run their course. Without the promise that God would never leave us, we would walk alone in our own strength and thoughts; and human thoughts are weak and only bring about fear and anxiety.
To bring a promise to fulfillment, you will many times have to humble yourself and do things you might not like or want to do; but you have to do them because God wants you to. Then you can ask what you will and receive. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask [not beg] in prayer, believing, ye shall receive (Matthew 21:22).
You could say that to live by promise is to live in another world—God’s world—and you can live a life of great contentment knowing that He is always with you. Let your conversation [and your way of life] be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have (Hebrews 13:5). You may not have everything you want, but God will make sure you always have what you need. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
Live in God’s World
If you will forsake all to follow Jesus today, He will take care of your tomorrows. And everyone that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life (Matthew 19:29). In this last hour, God is fulfilling His promises and doing great things. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace (John 1:16).
Living by promise means you must live by faith, and God gives everyone a measure of it. God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith (Romans 12:3). His promises are like stepping stones that take us from faith to even more faith. Never go from faith to doubt, from faith to misgivings or from faith to worry. The Bible says, For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17).
There are two worlds to choose from—man and the devil’s world or God’s world. Those who live by promise in God’s world are certainly strangers and pilgrims on this Earth. Even the heroes of the faith who had not yet received God’s promises confessed this to be true. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth (Hebrews 11:13).
Those faithful saints had not received God’s promises, so they did not have the opportunity to use them; yet they still embraced them. How much more should we who have received the promises live by them? This world was not their home; they knew they were just passing through. We too are just passing through, and we should not feel at home on this Earth.
Haven’t you ever felt like you just don’t belong here, like something is missing or out of place? Don’t be anxious about feeling that way because it is true that this world should not make you content. Your contentment can only come from living by the promises of God, so hug them to you and use them.
Jesus brought the promises those saints were looking for, and we now have them. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises (Hebrews 8:6).
Jesus brought us a better life, and He stayed to show us how to live it. You must know that God is your helper. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me (Hebrews 13:6). You don’t have to fear man or the devil. If you do allow fear and worry to creep in, they will rob you of strength, peace, joy and so much more.
Focus your eyes only on God and delight yourself in Him today, and He will take care of your desires for tomorrow. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass (Psalm 37:4,5).
God Is Faithful
When you run ahead of God or lag behind Him, you ruin what He is trying to do for you today. Embrace God’s promises every day, and especially when there is a waiting time or a proving period. If you get ahead of God and try to fulfill one of His promises with your human efforts before He is ready for it to be fulfilled, you will forfeit that promise in your life.
God’s promises lay the foundation for what we can expect from Him, so take time to study them and treasure them. If you don’t consider them and live by them, you are on your own; and you can never blame God for what happens when you do things your way.
When you live by promise today, you will talk and act like Jesus. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). You can be the perfect man or woman God intended when He first made them in the Garden of Eden. You just have to obey God and live holy. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (II Corinthians 7:1). When you do that, you will have absolutely nothing to fear or worry about.
Never look at any one of God’s promises as something that may happen because His promises are absolute. You also can’t be timid or slothful about claiming any of them because when you are unwilling to make an effort to take back what is rightfully yours, you will just give in to the devil’s battle and give up. The Bible says, Be not slothful [lazy], but followers of them who through [divine] faith and [divine] patience inherit the promises (Hebrews 6:12). When things get tough, do something about it and claim God’s promises.
The Bible declares, Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it (I Thessalonians 5:24). Do you judge God to be faithful all the time, or do you blame Him when something goes wrong? God told me that He has taken the blame for many things in the past that were not His fault, but He said He is no longer going to do that in this final hour. People can know when they are doing something wrong if they really want to, so they cannot blame God for what happens.
The Bible tells us many times of God’s faithfulness. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) (Hebrews 10:23). But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil (II Thessalonians 3:3). Abraham knew God was faithful. He [Abraham] staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he [God] had promised, he was able also to perform (Romans 4:20,21). You must know without a doubt that when the great I-Am gives you a promise, you can expect it to be fulfilled.
The Promises Are Your Future
Because of Christ’s sacrifice and the promises we have today, we have hope of eternal life tomorrow. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began (Titus 1:2).
Without the promise of eternal life with Christ, life on this wicked Earth would be all we would ever have; and that would be awful. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable (I Corinthians 15:19). Eternal life will be yours when you meet the condition of that promise and live for God. Let us therefore fear [honor God], lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest [Heaven], any of you should seem to come short of it (Hebrews 4:1).
If you have not been using God’s promises as much as you should, you need to get busy because you are rich and don’t know it. Life’s trials, hardships, afflictions and persecutions should not deter you from serving God because His promises can lift you above all of those things. They are your assurance that there is deliverance from it all, so you should rejoice and be exceedingly glad. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you (Matthew 5:11,12).
No one knows what the future holds; but if you live by promise, you know God holds your future in His hands. Do you want a better life today and a bright future? Then live by the promises of God. They are yours to use, and you will find life and power in each one. If you don’t live by them, all you will have is what the world offers; and that is a very limited and unfulfilled life.
Come to Jesus Today
If you are unsaved, it is time to come to Jesus. You don’t have long to get your soul right with Him because the Church Age is about to end. All the end-time signs the Lord prophesied would surround us at the time of His coming are now here, so the coming of Jesus is at the door. The nations of the world are getting ready for Armageddon, but the Bride of Christ is preparing to get out of here when the Rapture takes place.
Sinner, if you want to escape the horrible Tribulation Period that is about to come, pray this prayer with me now: Oh, God, save my soul. I am so sorry that I sinned against you, but I have come home; and I am going to serve you, Lord, for the rest of my life. I believe that Jesus died for me; and now, I will live for Him. I believe that the blood of Jesus washes away all my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus, come on in!
If you meant that prayer, Jesus has come; and you have eternal life bubbling on the inside. Serve the Lord. Live for Him. Walk in His paths of righteousness and be a Jesus overcomer. No one has ever loved you like Jesus loves you, and no one has ever cared for you like He cares.
Now, you must go on to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost because you must have Him if you want to go when Jesus comes. Only Holy Ghost power will change you on Rapture Day. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us (Ephesians 3:20).
God also sent the good Holy Ghost to teach us, guide us and comfort us here on this Earth. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (John 14:26).
You have to decide that nothing will keep you from getting the Holy Ghost. He is promised to all who will obey the Lord. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him (Acts 5:32). You may be afraid you won’t receive Him; but if you let fear take you over, you will miss the Rapture. Then the fear you have now will be nothing compared to the fear you will have when you realize you have been left behind.
Do You Need a Miracle?
Living in tomorrow can hinder you from receiving a miracle today. You may think, “I am worried about what will happen to me tomorrow,” or “I have to go to the doctor, and I am worried about what he is going to tell me.” Whatever he tells you is the answer according to medical science; but God’s promises go far above that. He said, I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26). He sent his word, and healed them (Psalm 107:20). The second verse refers to the Children of Israel as God brought them out of Egypt. The Bible says, He [God] brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes (Psalm 105:37). Only God could make three or four million people well.
If you need a miracle, let the Holy Spirit prepare you for God’s greatness to come upon you and anoint you to receive today. In this Jesus ministry, we don’t only believe in miracles, we depend on them; but you can let diseases hinder you and rob you of God’s promised blessings by the way you react to them. If you get impatient and upset, God cannot move for you.
You always have to remember that God won’t let you suffer beyond what you are able to take with patience, peace, love and a tender heart. God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it (I Corinthians 10:13).
If you are sick and afflicted or you have loved ones who need deliverance, you must know that the Bible says, The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up (James 5:15). You can have a miracle, and you can be made whole. You can be healed of any affliction or disease today through Jesus, the healing Christ.
There are things that our good medical people can help you with, and there are other things they have no help for. It is fine for you to take whatever help you can get from them; and when they can’t take care of something, Jesus can. He said, With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). I am not the healer; Jesus is the healer, and you must give Him all the honor and glory for what you receive.
Lord, I bring the sick and afflicted to you. Lay your healing hands upon them and make them well. Heal the people of AIDS, TB, cancer, lung problems, heart trouble, diabetes or any other disease or affliction through your supernatural gifts of healing and miracles. The deliverance comes in the name of your Son, Jesus, and through the power of the Holy Ghost. Heal! Heal, and make them completely whole!
Today is the day of miracles and healings, and they are promised to us in the Word of God; so let His healing power work to get you well. God is giving His promises to all who will accept them in faith believing, so lift up your heart and know that divine miracles and healings are for you. He is trusting you to live in His promises and depend on them today so He can move through you tomorrow to win the lost in this last and final hour.
