Believe

Believe—there is no greater word in the English language. You must believe in Jesus, God the Father, the Holy Ghost and the whole Bible; and you can’t just believe one minute and doubt the next. The Bible says you can’t let your faith waver. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord (James 1:6,7). The Lord only works through faith.
You must realize the simplicity of God’s faith. It is so simple that many times children can do a better job of using it than most grown-ups. Little ones who are taught about Jesus have great faith. My parents raised their children in a home filled with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, miracles and healings, and divine love and grace.
When my younger brother, Clyde, was little, he had more warts on his hands than I’d ever seen on any one person before. When he started going to school, he was embarrassed; and I’m sure the children made fun of him. But Mom had great faith; and she told him, “Honey, I’m going to pray for you, and the Lord will take all of these warts off.” She rubbed her hands over his as she prayed, and every one of those warts disappeared.
Children can use faith so easily, and yet some adults have a hard time with it because it’s so simple. They make it complicated rather than using it in the simplicity in which the Lord spoke it and brought it for you and me.
A Family of Faith
It’s never been hard for me to believe God. I saw miracles in my home, and I saw great faith in my two older sisters and in my mama and daddy. That made all the difference in the world for me as a child.
We had a family altar, and it was something very special. We would all gather around at night before we went to bed, and Dad would read a few verses of scripture. He didn’t read long because he knew some of the children were very young. Then some would kneel down to pray while others sat quietly and honored God. That kind of an atmosphere does wonders for a child.
Every day, Mama would pray over each one of us before we went to school; and her prayers played a big part in me being on the honor roll every year. Of course, I had to study; but God gave me a mind to learn. I was fortunate enough to attend a public school in what was known at the time as the “Bible Belt,” and Bible was one of our subjects just like reading or arithmetic. I loved to memorize, and our teachers would give us Bible verses and sometimes whole chapters to learn. I would go home, memorize my assignment that evening and recite it the next day. I had a special love for the Bible, and those verses have stayed with me all these years.
Drawn by God
My mother almost lost her life giving me birth, but God told me that the angel of the Lord was in the room when I was born. If that angel had not been there, she no doubt would have died; but God knew that I really needed her. I was marked in my mother’s womb, and that angel of the Lord followed me all the days of my life. I didn’t live a perfect life as a boy, but I couldn’t do the same things that my older brother did. He would have no conscience about doing something wrong, but I would feel so condemned. If I would think about stealing something, a voice would say, “One day, you’ll have to make that right.” Well, I never wanted to have to do that. Surely, God was drawing me even as a child.
The Lord saved me from many things. I almost lost my life three different times, but the angel of the Lord protected me; and I thank God for that. I had unusual faith as a child, even before I got saved. I had faith for miracles to take place, and I had faith in every word that God spoke.
Some of you let the devil battle you in your minds over the Word of God, but the devil can’t do that to me because there’s nothing in my mind for him to battle me with. I do everything according to God’s will. I always tell Him, “Lord, don’t ever answer one of my prayers if it’s not your divine will. I don’t want your permissible will; I want only your divine will.” And that’s what I get. I pray as Jesus did, knowing that the Father always hears me. Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always (John 11:41,42).
To Be Like Jesus
This ministry is a Jesus ministry, and I seek day and night to be as much like Jesus as I possibly can. Many people will pick out a particular person they want to be like, but Jesus is the only person I’ve ever wanted to be like. I had some wonderful teachers and professors as I was growing up and preparing for the ministry, but I never found one I wanted to be like. I only wanted to be like Jesus; I wanted to think like Him, talk like Him and walk like Him. I wanted the mind of Christ, and I knew Paul had said we could have it. The Bible says, Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5).
When I left sin, I left everything behind. Some people have so much trouble getting out of sin because they try to hold on to it, but I was taught that you have to live free from all sin. I was taught that Adam and Eve lost everything because of sin and that not one sin can get into Heaven. The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:4).
You Must Have Divine Faith
Good Sunday school teachers must have patience because they’re planting seeds of the Gospel in their students. Just the seed of faith alone is so special that it’s one of the nine gifts of the Spirit as well as one of the nine fruits of the Spirit. It is so important for us to have faith that the Bible tells us, God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith (Romans 12:3). Faith is given by measures; and as you use each measure, God will give you another measure. How do you get faith?—through the Word of God. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). You have to listen to and study the Word of God.
Divine faith is “big faith,” but Jesus called human faith “little faith.” He said to Peter, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt (Matthew 14:31)? Peter was walking the waters to Jesus, but he started to sink because of his little faith. Always remember that human things are fragile, and that’s why you must have divinity.
When Jesus came, He brought only divinity; and He showed us how to use it. The Bible says that Jesus took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:7,8).
Jesus had to become related to the human race according to the law of God so He could be our Redeemer Kinsman, and the Bible plainly tells us that He did become that. God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ (Galatians 4:4,5,7). Jesus came to make us sons and daughters of God. How?—through the blood He shed on Calvary. He paid the price for each one of us, but you must have faith in that blood.
A handshake and water baptism will never bring you into the Kingdom and neither will confirmation or being baptized as a baby. A few drops of water on your forehead won’t do anything if you don’t know right from wrong; you can’t get anything from God that way.
Divine Faith Brings Salvation
Jesus came saying, Ye must be born again (John 3:7); and making that step takes God’s faith. Jesus said that to Nicodemus; and although he was a great teacher of the Jews, he didn’t have divine faith. It seemed that he was a good man, but you can be a good person and still have only human faith. You can’t have divine faith unless you’re born again.
All people born outside of Eden were conceived in iniquities and sins. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me (Psalm 51:5). No one was born in the image of God no matter what they say. In the Garden, Adam and Eve had the image of God; but they lost that image when they went to the tree of death. There is no death in God’s image, only life.
God lives inside every born-again person. God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people (II Corinthians 6:16). Our bodies become a temple of the Holy Ghost. Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (I Corinthians 6:19)? Being born again brings us so close to God that we are actually re-created into righteousness and holiness. That ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24).
When we’re really born new, we will act like God, talk like God, think like God and live holy like God. God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness (I Thessalonians 4:7). God has nothing but holiness and righteousness to call us to. He calls us away from all sin and into divinity. The Bible says, Be ye holy; for I am holy (I Peter 1:16).
Sin Brings Death
The Bible tells us that God cannot look upon sin. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13). This doesn’t mean that God can’t see sin; it means that He cannot favor it in any way. All who sin will go to hell because God hates sin. Not one sin will ever get through the gates of Heaven.
God showed us how much He hates sin with the first man and woman. When they sinned, they died spiritually; and God threw them out of Eden. Then He placed cherubims at the gate and a fiery sword so that nobody could get back into the Garden. So he [God] drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life (Genesis 3:24). I wonder how many times Adam and Eve went back to that gate hoping that an avenging angel and the flaming sword wouldn’t be there, but they were always there.
Abel was one of the few who did find God outside of Eden. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts (Hebrews 11:4). Noah was another one who found God outside of Eden. The Lord waited patiently for 120 years while Noah and his family built the ark so He could save just eight souls from being destroyed. That’s how much God loves His children. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith (Hebrews 11:7).
God Works for Us
God gives us divine love, divine grace and divine faith; and He knows what is best for us. The Bible says, All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). When you walk in the divine will of God, no matter what happens to you, you must know that it’s for your good.
I’ve met people who have resented God for taking a loved one, and I dealt with one such man in an Alabama crusade. His dad had been a good man who was saved, Holy Ghost-filled and worked for the Lord; but he had suffered a heart attack and died. The man couldn’t understand why God would take his dad like that, and he blamed God. He knew his dad had been good to God, but he didn’t think God had been very good to his dad.
I had a chance to take this man to the scripture we just reviewed, Romans 8:28; and I explained to him that when a person lives in God’s divine will, He will take that person home when He gets ready. I let him know that it had been God’s divine will to take his dad when He did. You must realize that, when you’re pleasing God in everything, nothing can take your life until it is God’s time for you to go.
During the service, God delivered that man from all of his bitterness; and he came to me later and said, “Rev. Angley, if nobody had been healed, saved or delivered in the service, what you said to me was worth it all. God erased all of my bitterness.”
The deepest valley in my life was when God took my wife, Angel, home; but I didn’t blame Him. God told me shortly after He had taken her, “By me taking Angel when I did, she will bring more souls into my Kingdom than if I’d left her with you.” As He explained things to me, I told Him, “Lord, if I’ve ever believed you, I know I have to believe you now.” I knew that if I didn’t believe Him, there would be no healing ministry; and I wouldn’t be able to carry on His work. Not only did I have to believe Him, but I had to delight in believing Him and His Word.
God’s Way Is Perfect
Angel’s death had left me numb, and the Lord knew it. I only seemed to feel life about the size of a silver dollar around where my physical heart was beating. My speech would skip when I talked, and I almost hemorrhaged to death twice. If it hadn’t been for my congregation and for the call of God, I would have welcomed death. I didn’t feel like I could go on breathing without Angel, and I saw nothing to live for. If the Lord had said, “It’s my will for you to die,” I’d have said, “Oh, thank you, God!” But the deep-rooted faith that had been planted within my heart as a child was like a mountain of faith, and I had been taught that God never makes a mistake.
A few weeks after Angel had gone to Heaven, I found these words written on the flyleaf of her Bible: The way of the Lord is perfect. It was like she was speaking directly to me and letting me know that God’s perfect will had been done. Since the time I was saved, I always have and always will bow to the will of God.
When you use human faith, you’ll find yourself blaming God for things that He isn’t responsible for. The Lord told me one day that He has been blamed by sinners and even by God’s people for many things that He has never done. Then He continued, “In this final hour, I’m not going to take it any longer. I’m going to let people see where they are failing and let them know that they’re the ones at fault, not the God who made them.” And the Lord is doing just that. You can see who you really are if you want to.
Be Ready for God to Move
You can’t live in your feelings; you have to live by faith. In a crusade service, I met a wealthy man whose wife had been afflicted with a disease for ten years. She was so ill that he expected to wake up some morning and find her dead by his side. He brought her to the service, and she waited in the prayer line for a long time to get to me. When she finally stood before me, the Lord gave me a revelation concerning her; and I said, “You’re not ready to receive. You go, pray and read your Bible; then come back tomorrow night, and I’ll pray for you.” She told me later that she had known she wasn’t ready even before I told her. She had been hoping only with human hope.
I’m sure that her husband and her children who were with her were disappointed, but she left and did what I had told her to do. When she came back, the Lord did heal her; and that couple became great friends of mine. I had to tell that woman the truth because, although I had the faith for her, I knew she didn’t have faith for herself. I seek to match the faith of those who come to me for prayer if they have divine faith, but I never seek to match human faith.
Some people have more human faith than they do divine faith, and all they’re looking for is a touch from the Lord. Don’t ever be satisfied with just a touch. And whithersoever he [Jesus] entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole (Mark 6:56). The people mentioned in this verse didn’t just receive a touch; they were made whole.
There are people who have had their miracles again and again, and I knew it; but they lost them as soon as they left me. Their faith didn’t match mine. Many times, the Lord gives me visions of people’s miracles taking place; and I have told them how the Lord was moving for them, but they wouldn’t accept it.
I was in a dying condition when I was just twenty-three years old; but when the Lord came to me one night and told me I was healed, all hell couldn’t have made me doubt it. Jesus made me whole all over in just a moment of time.
It’s awful to watch your body go down to about a skeleton, to look into the mirror and see only tortured eyes looking back at you. I see those same tortured eyes in people today. They have pain and death working in their bodies, and I have such compassion for them. I know now that I had to go to death’s door to have that kind of compassion so that people could be saved, healed and delivered. This ministry would never be what it is today without much prayer, fasting and living in His presence. Jesus said, This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21).
Depend on Miracles
I live to see miracles; and I don’t only believe in them, I depend on them for myself and for other people. I depended on miracles for the people in one of my most recent crusades when we had over 12,000 miracles and healings in just one service; the Lord Himself numbered them. Thousands were delivered from the powers of the devil. When we arrived, most of the churches were full of witchcraft because the ministers were trying to mix it in with the Gospel. I approached them about it with love, but I had to tell them the truth. The majority of the ministers accepted it, and the laypeople accepted it even faster than the ministers did. I preached nothing but the truth, and people came to the Lord by the thousands.
I can find people through the faith of God; and if they’ll use their faith, the Lord will draw me to individual people no matter how large the crowd is. He’ll tell me their names, one of their parents’ names or even one of their grandparents’ names. He’ll tell me their diseases or afflictions and even how long they’ve had them—not only the years and the months but also the weeks and the days. God is so exact that it astounds people, but that’s how His divine faith works.
Faith Is a Gift
The eleventh chapter of Hebrews is all about faith, and I’ve received so much faith from studying that chapter. I’m always reaching out for more and more divinity. I’ve studied the steps of Elijah and Elisha again and again; and each time, it causes more faith and compassion to work through me. Just think, if the Lord did all of that before Calvary, how much more will He do now after Calvary?
Jesus said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you (Matthew 17:20). People declare that a mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds; but the Bible says that if you have even that much faith, you can move mountains of sickness and despair and defeat all demonic powers.
I’ve already brought you Romans 12:3 which tells us that everyone is given a measure of faith, so you have that seed; but some of you don’t cultivate it. You don’t plant it deep within the soil of your soul, and you don’t let the Holy Ghost bring it forth from your innermost being so you can use it. You received that faith by having good soil in your soul. When the blood washed all your sins away, that measure of faith was given to you; and the Holy Spirit will use it if you’ll let Him.
The Spirit has to be able to flow that faith into your mind, but He can’t do that unless you give your mind over to divinity rather than to the human spirit. If you don’t, you will clog the channels to Heaven. The Holy Spirit will keep trying to deal with you, but He can’t unclog the channels for you; you have to do that yourself. It was the same way when you received salvation; you had to yield to the Holy Spirit before He could use the blood to wash away all of your sins.
Faith Overcomes Mind Battles
You have to let faith work; but if you don’t do that, you’ll never please God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). You have to have faith in God to believe that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
The Bible says, Have faith in God (Mark 11:22). Many people don’t really understand this scripture, but it means to have the faith of God; and you can have as much as you’ll use. When you use what God gives you, He’ll give you more.
So many Christians continually fall back into human faith and allow the enemy to hinder them in using divine faith. Mind battles are one big thing the devil uses to do that, but I don’t let him keep me from using my faith.
Paul never let anything hinder his faith, and I’ve learned so much from studying him. The Lord has used Paul so much to bring me to where I am in God today. Paul never thought he could be worthy of how God used him, and I never thought I would be counted worthy to have even one of the gifts of the Spirit much less all nine. I never thought that I would have a vision from the Lord, but now I’m subject to have many visions in just one twenty-four hour period. When I’m conducting a crusade, the Lord will take me into visions and show me many things that are going to happen in the great services.
Keep Your First Love
The faith of God works with your first love, the love you received at Calvary. Everyone gets that first love when they’re born new, but some of you haven’t kept it and cultivated it. You no longer work for the Lord like you once did; and thus saith the Lord, you’re not faithful to Him.
When some people get saved, they start out wanting to volunteer and do anything they can for the Lord; but after a while, they fall back into doing only what they want to do. I try to get people to realize that God is a rewarder of those who work for Him and that He will reward them for everything they do for Him, but some people just won’t use their faith. They use the devil’s doubt and fear, and that gives him a chance to torment them in their minds. They have nightmares when they sleep, and they have no peace during the day.
Many years ago, the Lord told me about the battles of the mind; and He said they would be the fieriest trials for God’s people in the final hour. That hour is now here, but God also told me that it’s not His will for anyone to have battles of the mind; He gets no glory out of them. We need to have and do only those things that God can get glory from, but those things only happen through His divinity.
Know the Truth
The Lord held the truth up before people when He was here, but many wouldn’t accept it. He told the Pharisees and Sadducees that they couldn’t hear or see the works of God because they didn’t want to. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word (John 8:43). Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth (John 9:41). Many people are still like that today; they don’t want the truth.
Only the rod of truth can separate the waters and defeat the devil, but the Bible tells us in the book of Isaiah that truth has been cast out into the street. Judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter (Isaiah 59:14). This is happening in America and in many other nations today; the leaders have cast out the truth and trampled it underfoot. Thank God that those who are Spirit-filled will be getting out of here. The end-time signs are all around us, and our faith tells us it’s almost time to go home. The Spirit is forever pushing me forward and letting me know that we must hurry to reach the whole world and give people at least one chance to accept Jesus Christ.
A Perfect Bride
The “go-ye” of the Spirit burns in my heart and soul day and night, and I’m forever trying to kindle that blaze in the hearts of everyone I can so that God’s people will keep moving. Jesus is coming after a spotless Bride. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27).
It will take divine faith and the first love you received at Calvary to get out of here. Calvary’s faith will do anything great and wonderful to glorify the One who died and was resurrected for you and me. Faith has a loud voice, and it speaks through divine love for every child of God to hear. Faith and love go hand-in-hand.
The Sermon on the Mount is the greatest sermon that has ever been preached; and in it Jesus said, Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48). We have to be perfect in the love of God, and little faith certainly isn’t perfect. Jesus didn’t go to Calvary with little faith; and He didn’t do any of His works with little faith, saith the Lord. He did everything with divine faith. Divinity is greater than all the Earth and as big as Heaven itself. You can’t be a child of God and not have faith.
Listen to the Lord
Thomas certainly wasn’t using faith when he doubted and pouted after Christ’s crucifixion. But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe (John 20:24,25). Some people pout at God when things don’t work out the way they think they should. Thomas should have used the ears the Lord had given him, but he didn’t listen.
The Lord had told the disciples that He would be killed and that on the third day He would come forth. He taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day (Mark 9:31). Jesus told them in plain words that He would come out of the tomb on the third day, but none of them were there when He came out.
Would you have been there? Those of us with great faith would have, and we will also be there for the one flight out. We’re going to be ready to be changed in a moment and in a twinkling of an eye, and all the powers of hell will not be able to keep us from it. We’re getting greater vision every day and hearing the urgency of the voice of the Lord. We’re reaching beyond the human into divinity through prayers, fastings and living in the Word.
Let Nothing Stop You
The man in the ninth chapter of Mark who needed deliverance for his son didn’t let anything stop him. The spirits that bound his son would cast him into the fire and make him foam at the mouth. He first took his son to the disciples, but they couldn’t help him. And I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not (Mark 9:18). This man had real faith, so he pressed on until he got to Jesus.
The man could have blamed God because his son was not healed through the disciples, but he didn’t do that. He went on to Jesus saying, If thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us (Mark 9:22). Jesus shot that “if” right back at him saying, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23).
Rather than blaming God, the man sought more power from Heaven; and instantly, Jesus healed the boy. He [Jesus] rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him (Mark 9:25).
When you have real faith from Heaven, nothing will stop you. You will keep moving because Heaven moves with you. Jesus said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18). Divine power has to be used through divine faith and divine love. It’s there for you to use; but if you don’t use it, you’ll be defeated.
Some of you have been defeated many times because you haven’t used the faith of God. The Bible says to trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5,6). People have bought properties, houses or automobiles without seeking the Lord’s guidance and then wondered why those things didn’t work out. The reason is that they didn’t use the wisdom that is in divine faith; they used only what was in their human faith. I never transact any business for this work or even for myself unless I do it in the faith and love of God. I always wait on God.
Trust the Lord
Gideon put out fleeces before God, and the Lord answered them. At times, he even put out a fleece more than once so that he would know without a doubt that God had answered. And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said, Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said. And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water. And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew. And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground (Judges 6:36-40).
Gideon had the faith and the favor of God; but the Lord told him that if he still had any doubt, he should go to the enemy’s camp and listen to what they were saying. And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand. But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host: And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host…And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along. And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host (Judges 7:9-11,13,14).
After hearing this, Gideon went back to his army declaring, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian (Judges 7:15). Gideon and his men went forth and were victorious because Gideon believed God.
Some people start out on a faith walk with the Lord just like Gideon and Jesus did; but when something goes wrong, they fall into doubt, fear and frustration and blame God for their state. Those with divine faith and love will never blame God because they will know that all of God’s works are perfect. As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him (Psalm 18:30).
Deny Self
Many preachers today won’t put all of their trust in the Lord. They are not willing to pay the price or to give their lives completely to Him. The Lord said, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it (Matthew 16:24,25). This verse says it all. You have to deny yourself or you’ll never be able to follow the Lord. You’ll never have the faith of God, and you’ll never have divinity or be able to use divine love. Jesus showed us that it is possible to be human and still use divinity. The Bible tells us that He never committed one sin. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth (I Peter 2:22).
Jesus is our example, and He taught us to pray and fast. And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29). I’ve seen preachers who had started out wanting the healing ministry. They would fast, and God would begin to move for them; but they wouldn’t continue. They decided that the sacrifice was too much and that they would rather be doing other things such as playing golf or fishing. You can’t have a healing ministry and please self; you have to pattern after Jesus, and most preachers are not willing to pay that price. They put their families and self ahead of the healing ministry of Jesus.
Persecuted for Christ’s Sake
When I started my ministry, I lived holy; and I had great revivals. I belonged to a large denomination at the time; but many of the ministers didn’t like what I was doing, and they wanted to defeat me. They told people that I had stayed away with God and fasted and prayed so much that I’d lost my mind, and that really hurt me because I loved those servants of God and never dreamed any of them could do such a thing. However, it was good for me because it forced me to lose sight of everything but God and wanting His will to be done.
I had come to a crossroads for this Jesus healing ministry. Many of the ministers wanted me to turn back, and one of my denomination’s more prominent pastors even told me to forget about the gifts. How could I do that? I could no more forget about God’s gifts than I could forget about my own two hands, eyes or ears.
As I stood amidst all that persecution, I came to the place where I could have walked out and been shot for the sake of Christ. If it would have brought in all the souls the Lord had wanted me to bring in, I would have gladly done it. I told the Lord, “You have all of me. You can take my life all at one time or use it in any way that you want.” That divinity within me is always moving me forward. I’m on duty for God twenty-four hours a day, and I never say no to Him. Whenever there’s a need, I’m ready to be used.
I have always wanted nothing less than the best that the Lord wanted to give me. When I got saved, I became new through and through. One Sunday night, I went to church one way and left a completely different way; and I’ve never turned back to my old way. It wasn’t long until I received the Holy Ghost and began preaching like a house on fire. I’m sure that nobody enjoys preaching more than I do.
Fasting Brings Divinity Down
When the Lord calls on me to fast, I do it, even if it’s for forty days. Fasting is good for you as long as you drink plenty of water. I’ve had so many long fasts that I’ve lost count, but the number doesn’t matter; what counts is what I have received from them. The Bible says, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).
Recently, while I was on a long fast, God told me something I had never thought of before. He said, “When you drink water, think about drinking from the river of life.” I thought within myself that the river of life is full of divine life, and faith and Heaven’s love are divine life. Divine peace, divine hope, divine gentleness and divine goodness are also all a part of Heaven’s life. When you’re fasting, you’re reaching up and pulling Heaven down; and when you pull Heaven down on others, you pull it down on yourself.
Since I received that message from the Lord, I have been drinking as if I were drinking from the river of life because I know that the river of life contains only divinity. That enables me to go on with great strength from On High.
Receive the Holy Ghost
The Lord came and connected us with the river of life, but it takes the Holy Ghost to flow that river of life into us so that living waters will flow from our innermost beings. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). Those rivers come from the river of life; and those rivers of love, grace, forgiveness, humility, deliverance, miracles, healings, power from On High and the works of Almighty God will flow to people all over the world.
The Lord let me know years ago that the time would come when I would need no man’s books to teach me, just His. He said He would take over my mind, and I would know His thoughts. It took me a long time to learn how to do that, but I can now turn my mind over to Him at any time just like you would give your hand to someone. The Holy Ghost works the same way with the tongues of those who have received Him. He takes over their tongues and speaks in another language or dialect that they can’t understand. Jesus takes over my mind just like the Holy Ghost takes over my tongue.
Before I received the Holy Ghost, I thought that yielding to Him would be the hardest thing I would ever come up against. As a young boy, I had watched many people receive the real Holy Ghost baptism; and I was fascinated by it. However, when it came to me receiving it, I said, “God, you know I believe in your Holy Ghost and that I want just what you gave the disciples on the Day of Pentecost; but, Lord, I can’t seem to believe for that. I’ll never miss an altar call, but you’ll have to help me.”
I couldn’t see how in this world the Holy Ghost could ever take over my tongue, but that’s exactly what He did. As I said, “Glory, glory, glory” with my whole heart, the “glory” began to fade out. Suddenly, I was speaking in another tongue; and it was so simple. If I had known it would be that simple, I would have received the Holy Ghost earlier; but I had made it hard. I had not put enough faith in the simplicity of receiving the Holy Ghost. When you have divine faith, you will focus it on the promises of God and not depend on your feelings.
God Requires Self-Control and Discipline
Bible days are here again, and we’re a part of them. We’re to be the hands, the eyes and the ears of the Lord. We must have the mind of the Lord and allow the thoughts of God to direct us and to make our paths plain. We can’t grumble, complain, argue or fight, not even with our companions. The Bible says, Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:26,27). What if you were to die in your sleep?
Some of you think you have a right to argue with your husband or wife; but the Lord said one would put 1000 of His enemies to flight, and two would put 10,000 to flight. How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up (Deuteronomy 32:30)?
Those who are married have a grave responsibility; but some of you have not realized that you have the same responsibility to God, and you have failed. You lose your temper, and you ruin your influence over others. You may kick the walls and throw the dishes, but those things won’t put any love in your children’s hearts for you or for Jesus. You don’t have the meek, gentle Spirit of Jesus.
Thank God, I never saw anything like that in my home; and my parents didn’t believe in any of their children acting like that either. We had a woodshed that said we had better not. Mom and Dad may have warped us down below, but we came out with good minds. If you haven’t properly disciplined your children in the past, you’re probably now seeing how you have failed because when you sow to the flesh in raising children, you will reap corruption from them. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting (Galatians 6:7,8).
Faith Must Be Used
You have to use God’s faith in everything you do and never blame God for anything, not even when He takes a loved one home. Turn to Him and allow Him to help you; He’ll give you reasons for what He has done if you’ll believe Him.
After Lazarus had died, Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died (John 11:21). But the Lord replied, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God (John 11:40)? If you’ll believe, you’ll see the glory, too.
Martha had faith, but she didn’t know how to use it in that situation; and the same goes for you. It’s not enough to have faith; you have to know how to use it. The woman with the issue of blood had great faith, and she knew how to use it. She said, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole (Matthew 9:21). She used great faith, and the miracle happened!
God has many things for us to do, but we have to use our faith. Jesus said, Take ye away the stone (John 11:39). Victory for some of you is on the other side of the stone, but you have to have enough faith to move it. Don’t wait for the Lord to move it because He won’t do it. You have to move it yourself or ask someone to help you; but either way, you have to get that stone out of the way before God can move. That stone could be one of doubt or disobedience, one of grudges or failed promises. God keeps His Word, and so must we because we are to be like Him.
God Works through Faith
You have to come out of the world and be willing to follow Jesus. Simon Peter and Andrew his brother were fishing when the Lord called them. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him (Matthew 4:18-20). The Lord is saying the same thing to us today—“Leave your nets and that muddy lake behind, and I’ll take you to a place where the fishing is great. You’ll become fishers of men.”
Simon and Andrew did follow Jesus; but Simon didn’t always use his faith, and he got into much trouble. He never expected the Lord to be arrested or to be condemned in the trials they put Him through, and Simon allowed fear to take him over—he denied Jesus and even cursed. When you deny divinity, you make yourself a target for the devil’s fear; but faith will keep that fear away.
The Centurion who went to Jesus to get healing for his slave wasn’t afraid. He loved his servant; he knew Jesus, and he knew what Jesus stood for. He recognized divinity, and he wasn’t even of the household of faith. Jesus told the Centurion, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed (Matthew 8:7,8). It takes that kind of humility to use divine faith, and the Centurion had it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel (Matthew 8:10). This man had great faith, and it worked!
A nobleman asked Jesus to go with him and heal his son; but again, the Lord just spoke the words. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house (John 4:49-53).
Use Faith for Salvation
Sinner, God’s heart is open to you today; but it may be closed to you tomorrow. It’s dangerous to pass up an opportunity when you know you’re not ready because one time it will be your last opportunity. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (II Corinthians 6:2).
Answer the urgent call of God and say this prayer today. Oh, God, I’m so sorry that I sinned against you; but I have come home and I’ll serve you the rest of my life. I believe the divine blood of Jesus washes away all of my sins. Come into my heart, Jesus. Come on in!
If you meant that prayer, you can say, “Hallelujah! Jesus has come. Hallelujah! Jesus is mine.”
Believe and Receive
You are now ready to receive your miracle, but you have to live for the Lord and give Him all of the glory. I’m not your healer; Jesus is your healer. I’m just His believer.
Lord, here they are. I come against the awful diseases of the people. I use the blood of your Son, Jesus, to destroy HIV/AIDS in people’s bodies; and, Lord, you’ve already healed entire families of this disease. Heal the people of cancer, heart trouble, lung trouble, paralysis, diabetes and leprosy. You’ve done it for so many, Lord, so do it for the people right now. Heal! Heal! in the all-powerful, blood name of Jesus.
Feel the power of God going through your body right now. That’s the same healing power that went through my body, and I knew I was healed. After all these years, I can still feel the greatness of that power moving in me. I thank God for my healthy body, and I thank Him for the strength that He pours into me daily to do His work. He’ll do the same thing for you because He promised to renew your youth. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s (Psalm 103:5).
Hold on to faith and never let it go. Faith always works, but it doesn’t work to satisfy the human spirit. That’s why you have to let go of everything else but divine faith and love. You may even have to let go of friends and loved ones, but you have to put all of your trust in the Lord with your whole heart.
A Special Anointing for You
Lord, we honor you for your faith. Anoint these people today with greater faith than they have ever had before. We need your faith in this hour. Also, anoint us today like never before with your divine love. Thus saith the Lord, take this anointing; open your heart’s door, and this anointing will flow into your innermost being.
Take this great anointing that the Lord is offering you right now. If you truly have the favor of God and you really want this faith and love, divinity is flowing to you like mighty rivers. Take this great anointing, and it will enable you to learn more about the power of His resurrection. The power that brought Jesus out of the tomb is available to you; it’s within your reach right now, saith the Lord. You can be made whole, and you can do greater works for God than ever before.
