You Can Have a Miracle!

You Can Have a Miracle!

Healing for the Body Is God’s Will for You

It is absolutely the will of God for you to be healthy. God made a man who knew no disease and placed him in the Garden of Eden. God intended man to live in perfect health, but then man sinned and sickness entered his body. Here I want to make clear that I am referring to the sin and sickness that entered the world with the fall of man, that I am not saying that being sick means you have sinned. It does not. Many godly people have been afflicted, but sickness does not come from God. In the Bible we read:

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth (III John 2).

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father (James 1:17).

Since sickness and disease are not good and perfect gifts, they obviously could not come from the Father.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8).

The works of the devil are sin and sickness.

And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. [Jesus speaking] Ought not this woman...WHOM SATAN HATH BOUND, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond (Luke 13:11-13,16)?

It has always been God’s will for His children to be healthy. In the Old Testament we find these promises:

I am the Lord that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26).

I will take sickness away from the midst of thee (Exodus 23:25).

And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness (Deuteronomy 7:15).

Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling (Psalm 91:10).

[The Lord] healeth all thy diseases (Psalm 103:3).

He sent his word, and healed them (Psalm 107:20).

But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings (Malachi 4:2).

God Healed in Old Testament Days

Throughout the ages God has healed His people. Here are a few examples of God’s promises of healing put into action through Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Elisha, and Isaiah:

So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants (Genesis 20:17).

And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived (Numbers 21:8,9).

The serpent of brass was a type and shadow of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up (John 3:14).

He brought them forth [the Israelites from Egyptian bondage]...and there was not one feeble person among their tribes (Psalm 105:37).

And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Entreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored him again, and became as it was before (I Kings 13:6).

And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again. And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived (I Kings 17:21,22).

So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean (II Kings 5:9,10,14).

Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee [Hezekiah]: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD. And I will add unto thy days fifteen years (II Kings 20:5,6).

Christ Made Healing Available to All

The miracles and healings of the Old Testament that came through special men at special times were types and shadows of the healing Christ made available to all mankind. By His death on the cross, the twofold atonement (healing for soul and for mind and body), Christ bought back everything that was lost in the fall of man.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed (I Peter 2:24).

This means physical healing.

They brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses (Matthew 8:16,17).

And with his stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5).

Christ’s ministry was a salvation and healing ministry. Although the soul is paramount, the Lord placed great emphasis on physical healing. God revealed through Christ His will to deliver His people.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18).

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people (Matthew 9:35).

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them (Matthew 4:23,24).

And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing (Luke 9:11).

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him (Acts 10:38).

Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other... great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all (Matthew 12:13,15).

Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw (Matthew 12:22).

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick (Matthew 14:14).

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole (Matthew 14:35,36).

And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel (Matthew 15:30,31).

And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there (Matthew 19:2).

But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her. And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And all the city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils (Mark 1:30-34).

For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues (Mark 3:10).

And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him, And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole (Mark 6:54-56).

But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities...and the power of the Lord was present to heal them (Luke 5:15,17).

And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all (Luke 6:17-19).

And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached (Luke 7:21,22).

And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go (Luke 14:2,4).

When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk (John 5:6,8).

Christ’s Work Carried On through Believers

Christ, while on Earth, commissioned the Twelve to continue His work:

And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. [Jesus speaking] Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give (Matthew 10:1,8).

And later, the seventy:

After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. [Jesus speaking] And heal the sick therein...And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name (Luke 10:1,9,17).

Before Christ Ascended into Heaven, He Left His Followers with These Words:

VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO YOU, HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME, THE WORKS THAT I DO SHALL HE DO ALSO; AND GREATER WORKS THAN THESE SHALL HE DO; BECAUSE I GO UNTO MY FATHER (John 14:12).

Let’s examine the works of the Early Church:

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people...Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one (Acts 5:12,15,16).

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus (Acts 4:29,30).

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God (Acts 3:6-8).

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people (Acts 6:8).

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed (Acts 8:6,7).

And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately (Acts 9:33,34).

Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them (Acts 15:12).

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed (Acts 28:8,9).

Many contend that with the death of the apostles the days of miracles ended. Did they really? Just as salvation, the miracle of all miracles, has been in operation down through the ages, so have miracles of healing and deliverance for the physical body. In Malachi we read:

For I am the Lord, I change not (Malachi 3:6).

And in Hebrews we find this scripture:

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day and for ever (Hebrews 13:8).

The Lord has not changed; Jesus is still the Savior and Healer of all mankind.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils...they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17,18).
